The reason I'm asking if the horse and the human can be scaled independently, the earlier centaur, Shades of Atlantis Sagytarios (https://www.daz3d.com/shades-of-atlantis-sagytarios), could not, and I had to duplicate the creature and shrink the human torso, which left me with some gaping holes at the hip (hiding at the backside). Besides the annoying fact that the hands still look too big.
I bought the Pro Bundle as soon as I saw it last night, I was SUPER excited about it. I've been wanting a centaur for ages!!!! When I saw the promo pics I nearly died of happiness, I loved the colors, the armor, the hair, everything ^_^ To everyone responsible for this beauty, well done!
So after begging my meager bank account not to fail me, I went for it. Buuuuuuttttt... any version I click on (regular Male Centaur, Alexi Centaur, etc.), I end up with one "horse" but 3 "human" bodies - the one with materials that I want, a geoshell that I can painstakingly turn off opacity for bit by bit, and a third, plain generically gray one that I can't figure out where it's coming from. It won't accept materials, and I can't hide it, but it shows through on renders.
Could someone please help me figure out how to use this gorgeous creature before I start crying out of frustration? I tried to find documentation, but had no luck. Perhaps I missed something?
I've always wanted that; especially if each face could be morphed independant from each other. I'm sure it would be a nightmare to create, but it could be fun for some scenes I have in my head.
I suspect there is something amiss in your installation; you should have a a)figure with centaur body (b+c), b)centaur body (geoshell), and c)grey figure. You should have a preset (a), wearable (b), and figure (c)
Make sure you are on a newer version of DS. I had that exact same problem with the geoshells showing grey in the renders until I updated to the newest public build.
Aha, I just realized I never updated to the latest one. I guess I know what I'll be doing tonight, thanks!!!! ^_^
There is a typo in the file name for the Centaur Alexi. He is called Alexis for some reason. Put in a request for a fix, but just FYI if you are looking for this character.
It looks like the character Dash and the human version of Kabaka are nearly the same human body shape. I prefer Kabaka's skin tone though.
Thanks - that fixed my problem.
No problem. I can't tell you the amount of swearing and wasted hours that insued on my part trying to sort that out.
Another cool thing to note on this package, you are actually getting 6 different characters. 3 Centaurs and 3 Male figures. That's a pretty darn good deal.
Thanks, you guys, I was wondering about the bottom rear end part; so, I guess I'll have to see for myself how much of a fight they put up.
silly quick video
How do you find out if you have the most current build and how do you update? I have been using connect but do you have to update using DIM?
Current version is 4.9.3.166 (Help > About Daz Studio), can be installed with DIM or you can download a standalone installer fro your Product Library.
Has anyone still using 4.8 tried this product? I am asking in reference to the geoshells issue mentioned above.
I am going to have to pass on this one because of the transition area. After looking at the promos off and on, it just looks really off to me. I was hoping that RawArt's Rogan could fix this since his transition area is perfect, but as usual, it seems from what I have read that RawArt has made his product totally proprietary meaning it's his vision or nothing and I would want to mix and match with his transition area. maybe if DAZ does a female version they can get it right then.
Seriously dude...I am a character maker, that is what I do. I cannot (and did not set out to) make a "fix" for daz's base (because it is not really broken, just a different vision than the one I wanted).
I'll be honest, I can sort of see wanting to mix and match that area. It is a far better transition area than the default model which looks-kinda goofy without clothing to conceal it. I was actually a bit surprised the default waist was so high, since showing off the model's skin and abs would be far preferable to the rather limited looking horse texture.
Given we don't have real centaurs to compare to, it becomes a highly subjective artistic judgement.
Was gonna hold tight to my dollars on this one then I realized I could .......
Not to beat a dead horse, oh...my....but I don't think the centaur was EVER supposed to really be around without armor.
I think he was designed that way and that's why there are so many armor suits available to him at launch.
AND the armor is human armor, not horse armor. Which to be honest would make much more sense if there was a complete armor set,
Why would 'the man' part have tons of armor and look awesome- but the bigger (relative to body mass) areas be naked and bare?
If we're going to goof on a woman's belly being exposed in armor, what do you say to the entire rear quarter being exposed?
---- seeing that the horse IS NOT the Daz horse 2 - and it eliminates using regular mare-armor - it would have been awesome to have LEG ARMOR- if even for the two front legs.
Or so something clever with the "fit to" department so regular foot armor locks onto the horses front legs with an instruction for scaling to make it fit in the product info or read me.
AND/OR include regular leg pieces in the 'centaur armor' so it can be mated FULLY with regular genesis 3 figures.
That would make the armor even more valuable to non-centaur enthusiasts. lol
For now, throw a belt around that waist area, if you have to....
(Please limit the width on images to 800 pixels. ~Mod)
actually the mesh is ........
I looked at both and same topography and take each other's textures
so a clone could b made with scaling and some reshaping
I had a good look at them last night and honestly don't have an issue with the seam area. Its a fantasy creature and I think we all have our own ideas of what things should look like. I'm very happy with this and will be using it often. And I will be picking up RawArt's Rogan as soon as I can swing it because he is a beautiful character in his own right and I like the more bulky look of him. Will give more diversity when I want more than one Centaur in a render. (And, because I pretty much love everything he makes)
I have 4.8 on my laptop, I will check on it this evening when I get home from work if no one gets to it before then.
OK, I bought the Pro Bundle this morning. At the sale price, plus three add on sale items to bring the price down even futher, I basically got the add-ons for free. I paid about what I would have paid not to have my wife yell at me... I mean, it was well worth it.
I think there is an issue with the connection area, that RawArt handled it better, but frankly that is a minor concern. I'm not producing images for mythological anatomy class so I think I'll be OK.
Bottom line: wonderful bundle, great subject matter. This is the type of thinking and artistic expression that keeps me hanging around here
Then maybe Kheiron became the most famous of the centaurs because he was so terribly different...
By the way, if the transition uses an opacity map geoshell like I think, it should be pretty trivial to whip up your own version of the transition.
As I commented in another thread, in another forum, on another site, people have been kitbashing centaurs for yonks. It isn't difficult, but it tends to take a load of postwork.
There have been a handful of dedicated centaur figures, which meant less postwork, but way less support.
It was when the Genesis series came out and one could use geografting that launched a huge uptick in interest about the possibility of a geografted centaur.
And it's taken nearly five years, but someone finally did it.
Collision really helps make the centaur kitbash thing work, plus an opacity map to help blend it together. But clothing tends to then be extra hard.
On the other hand, you can do an elephant-taur by kitbashing...
