Note, because I have not assigned any joint constraints or weightmapping yet, the only things that would be lost if anyone wants to detach the skeleton from the mesh and change the model would be the morphs, which are empty anyway.

 

EDIT:  Even the morphs would be preserved if no new vertexes are added.
