I just looked through some of my old DS renders, some were ok, and some were plain eek! I don't think I ever truly mastered lighting in DS the way I have in Poser. Still, that's not to say it can't be done though!
We'll see.....
CHEERS!
The new Victoria 5 Nichole looks really great.

Rendered in PoserPro 2012. Click the image to see it enlarged.
Yeah, it does look nice, but, I don't see much difference between that and Amy.
I've now got DS back and will master that and post my resulting renders here.
CHEERS!
I've bought Nichole for $6.58 (by applying Platinum Club monthly coupon) and I think she is cute, as well.
Rendered in Daz Studio 4.5 Pro. Click the image to see it enlarged.
Ah, she looks better there,
So, what's the recipe for this render, now I have the cooker so to speak I might be able to buy the relevant ingredients!
CHEERS!
great expression love the look.
only one very minor critique, the hat looks like a black blob around her head, is there some way you could give it just a touch of detail?
That might spoil the lighting on her face.
CHEERS!
that is a good point,
Thanks. I've just forgotten to apply some better material to the hat.
Thanks, Rogerbee. Ok, so here comes ingredients:
From Victoria 5 Pro Bundle:
- Victoria 5 Supermodel
- Expressive for Genesis (for expression)
Victoria 5 Elite Texture Nichole
Pure Hair Lovely
Flower Power clothes
Background prop from InaneGlory's Photo Studio 3
DAZ Dimension Lights 1 preset 1.
I activated a depth of field (DOF) to the camera in Daz Studio.
Wish it will be so easy to use DOF in Poser as it is in Daz Studio.
I also attach a picture with the render settings used.
One more render of Victoria 5 Nichole with different hat materials.
oh that looks awesome
Thanks a lot, Rareth. Glad you like it.
LOL the notification fairy has gone on holiday again!
Artini, thank you so much for all that info. The render settings were something I was about to ask you about. Are those settings good for reflections? If they are I'll save them as my default.
The render looks so much better with the other hat material on it.
I will, or should I say MUST get round to making use of what I'm learning
CHEERS!
Max Ray Trace depth on those settings will give the reflections I believe..
here we go from Max Ray Trace depth of 0 to 3 in the pictures below
Ah, thanks for that,
It'll mainly be eyes I'll want to use it for.
CHEERS!
With the new 'glass' shaders available, has anyone got any tips for realistic looking eyes in DS4.5?
Any input/links will be greatly appreciated.
CHEERS!
Thanks, Rogerbee and you are welcome . I think the Render Settings I have posted are pretty good for most of the scenes,
but of course you need to adapt them to your computer speed and the desired quality of the render.
Rendering hair is pretty demanding of the computer resources, and so as achieving a good reflections.
Hope you will find a good settings for rendering eyes.
Thanks,
Speed shouldn't be a problem with a quad core ad 6gb of RAM. Poser went well and so, hopefully, should this.
It pays to experiment....
CHEERS!
Jaderail made a great tut on DOF... I use his settings here as my high quality renders. It takes more time to render, but every thing is at its full potential

Thanks for that Spyro,
At some point I may even give your eye shine tutorial a whirl. At the moment I'm just getting the basics down.
I actually started out with DS going from something like late version 1 up to about 2.5. I got Poser then and have been messing around with it ever since.Thing is, messing around is all I've really done and all I felt I could do. DS was something that I never took time out to properly learn. Version 3 and the early 4 were prohibitively expensive, but, now it's back free again I want to master it.
Everything I've ever really liked in 3D has been a Daz product, so, it's time to use it in its proper environment
CHEERS!
Good for you, I cant wait to see what you do with Daz. You've always wowed me with you creations in Poser :)
Close up render of V5 Nichole and its render settings.
Rendering time was not so bad - 20 minutes 27.42 seconds.
My previous render took 14 minutes 10.13 seconds.
what lighting are you using? regular DAZ lights or Uber E2?
I am using the first preset from DAZ Dimension Lights 1
http://www.daz3d.com/daz-dimension-lights-1
which consist of Uberenvironment 2 and one distant light.
One more close up - without glasses.
Another close up of V5 Nichole without make up (Face 01).
Have to find a way for more wet eyes look :cheese:
V5 Bree eyes looks also nice with V5 Nichole.
Looking good,
I think I've got the Elite Human Surface Shader where I want it. The test render is V5 Bree with just the lights that DS loads with. I tried the UberEnvironment light, but everything slowed down and I couldn't see what it was going to look like. It looked a bit dark from what I could make out. I got bored of tweaking stuff in Poser and will probably feel the same with this. I too need to do some work on the eyes, if you come up with something before I do, please post it.
I do like the look of the Lantios Portrait lights and will get them when I have a bit more money. Even with the store credit I have I still can't comfortably afford them and the other things I need to get such as a set of new ink cartridges for my printer.
You'll have to put up with the default lights for a little while...
CHEERS!
Good start, Rogerbee. Will be exciting to see, what you will come up with the Daz Studio.
I like the look of V5 Bree eyes, so it is a good starting point for further improvements.
I have bought many of the Lantios light sets, but do not have his Portrait lights. They are pretty expensive.
I have discovered that the DAZ Dimension Lights 1
http://www.daz3d.com/daz-dimension-lights-1
I have bought while they were on sale give the renders I like.
DAZ Dimension Lights 1 are combination of UberEnvironment light and one distant light.
Renders make with them take not so long time to complete, either.
I have tried myself to set up UberEnvironment light, but failed to get satisfactional quality renders
without extremely long rendering times.
I started using the Scripted 3Delight render engine with the point-occlusion script, while UE2 can probably crank out better renders in the long run, I get pretty decent quality with this using a few distant lights
