This was just what I was looking for! Thank you so much!
Elite Eyes are back with Phil W, I beta tested them as far as I could in Poser. The problem was that the D3D script I was using to import the DUF was mangling the geometry. It needs a Poser companion file before it'll work as intended in Poser. Last I heard from Phil he was involved with another project.
When I get some lights sorted I'll load up his original DUF into DS4.5 and see what's what. From the pics he sent me it looks like it works perfectly in DS. It's up to Phil what happens with them.
CHEERS!
Your welcome :) Hope it helps. It took we a while to write it up as I discovered an issue with a morph set that was impacting the irises depth for some unknown reason... Then I discovered my eye surface settings were altered by Interjection, which I didnt know it changed things on me lol annoying.
EDIT: Oh that's good. Since I've been working on close ups it's been bugging me about the no eye surface lol
Anyhow, back to some renders,
This time it's V4 Future Cop, but fitted to V5.
This brings me to my major bugbear with DS in that it ignores what the artist intended and loads its own defaults. The visor on the helmet is pure guesswork! I've no idea what 3D Universe intended the settings for it to be! Also, you will note that I tried some lights. They are the basic set that came with DM's Instances. Yet AGAIN defaults were loaded, so I don't know which lights had shadows, what type of light they were or what the intensity was. WHY DOES DS DO THIS!?! I suppose, in this case, I could go into Poser, load the lights and make a note of what they were and interpret them back in DS, but, why should I have to!? You would think that by now they would have given DS at least some AI.
Please, please tell me that with things like Lantios Lights they load and that's it, I 'll be massively annoyed if I have to set everything myself.
Enjoy the renders
CHEERS! (The one success I did have was the chrome shader on the helmet mic, now that was just what I wanted.)
I'm not totally familiar with Interjection, I haven't been keeping up with DS developments at all.
It's anyone's guess when Elite Eyes will get released, I just hope they do, I'd hate to have the only copy!
CHEERS!
I put the glass shader from Shader Mixer onto the visor, now that's more like it. More presets please Daz!
CHEERS!
Great, Rogerbee. I am busy with downloading the free Adobe CS2 programs.
One never know, how long they will remain for free.

Daz forum discussion: OT - Adobe CS2 now free, perhaps

Just got Indesign. Very useful for graphic novels, comics, cards, brochures etc. Very good for creating speech bubbles for those that are into those talkative renders :)
Hmm,
I'm waiting for a catch. I'll download it, but, I won't install it till I know there isn't one.
On Tuesday I'll finally get some more ink for my printer, then I can print all your tips then I don't have to have Word open alongside DS all the time.
CHEERS!
Well, curiosity and boredom got the better of me, and, I downloaded and installed it. It's there, it's in and it works. It even accepted my custom actions that I've had set up in every version of PhotoShop I've ever had.
Happy days!
Now, will the current 3D bridge to PhotoShop for DS 4.5 work with it!?
CHEERS!
EDIT:
No, it won't!
Ah well..... maybe that was the catch!
...a lot of the light presets that are included with content are meant for Poser not Daz Studio. Some sets (like a few by Stonemason) also include light sets for Daz Studio but you have to go into the Daz/Studio/Content/Studio folder to find them.
Light sets like Lantios and Cloud Nine load complete and you can rotate the entire light set with one control. Be advised though they use the UE lights so they will be slow in rendering, particularly if you have heavy transmaps.
I really wish that DreamLight would find the time to update LDP2 to 4.5 as it not only uses the standard Daz lights (with optional UE), but is also a very simple to use light system compared to the original version.
Thanks,
Pity it's another week before I can find that out for myself. I'm sure Val/Waldemar will get round to an LDP3 at some point. Long render times are something I'm used to, just have to find something to do while they complete. I think that's why some people get impatient, they sit in front of it expecting instant results.
CHEERS!
..this will be the nice thing about the workstation, I can let it render away and still use the notebook to bloggity blog in the meantime.
I just watch TV, if I'm in front of the computer at all then I'll want to keep checking how it's doing.
CHEERS!
...don't have a telly so the net is my main source of entertainment.
LOL, forgot about that, I couldn't live without mine!
I tell you what I keep remembering is all the content that came bundled with DS2 that you can still use. I got the Cyclorama and a cool pair of trainers from it. I do sometimes have to try and find the content though as I didn't copy all of it across to Poser. I seem to remember installing DS2 once just to get the content.
CHEERS!
I will try to explore Lantios lights. So here come the first render of Victoria 5 with materials from
V5 Bree All and applying V5 Bree Bump Close-Up.
Lights used: Lantios Core Lighting 1 preset 09
http://www.daz3d.com/core-lighting-1
Rendering Time: 28 minutes 22.14 seconds
For comparison, another render of Victoria 5 with materials from
V5 Bree All and applied V5 Bree Bump Close-Up.
Lights used: Photo Studio Lights 3 preset Photo Studio Lights X1 (DS4)
http://www.daz3d.com/inaneglorys-photo-studio-3
Rendering Time: 45 minutes 35.85 seconds
The skin looks really good, however, considering there's lights in the scene the eyes look a little dead.
If you go to page 42, Spyro lists some settings for the eyes in the second of his last renders. I have yet to try these out for myself, but, his renders speak for themselves.
If anyone wonders why there is as much talking as there are renders, it is because I think this thread should be as much about what goes into creating them as the renders themselves. A sort of one stop shop for people that can't search if you like.
As soon as time and money catch up with each other I will be contributing more renders, that won't be this week though
CHEERS!
EDIT:
Ah, that last one is more like it, LOL!
You were rendering as I was typing!
Hmm, I think the Lantios lights give better results with less render time. Definitely worth investing in them then.
CHEERS!
oof.. nothing like throwing a complicated background texture on top of an IDL Camera shader to bring render times to a crawl...
the current render is going to take a bit..
here are some samples I did yesterday between regular camera, and an IDL Shader camera. with an area light place for fill light, and spot lights for main and key.
Its been a while some new ones Floor pov
Nice one for a commission using the Reality water prop (warning nudity ) http://fav.me/d5re278

An IDL Shader camera, that's a new one, tell me more....
CHEERS!
Nice work Bob,
The water effects on that commissioned render are really nice.
CHEERS!
An IDL Shader camera, that's a new one, tell me more....
CHEERS!
Went into the shader mixers and told it to make a new shader, in the window that pops up I selected camera from the dropdown menu, and gave it a name, then right click to add bricks, root, lighting indirect lighting (camera) and then clicked create.
it it then asks for a name for the new camera, you do that and click OK it adds a new camera to your scene,
you render through that camera..
Interesting, have to make a note of that one.
CHEERS!
Thanks after almost a year using Reality adjustments and the luxrender is like second nature. I like the fact I can produce quality renders without too much fussing
I'll get to Reality in March when 3 comes out, I get the feeling that there will be a DS version at some point. If not, there's always 2. With any luck I'll have DS sussed by March!
CHEERS!
There will be R3 for DS according to Paolo
Yay!
Listen to me, a DS convert, LOL!
CHEERS!
