This took about 18 min. It's 600x600, and was rendered with a raytrace depth of 8 and a shading rate of 0.5 on my Intel quad core. It's a purely default shader - in my testing and fiddling it appears that refraction + raytraced reflection = decent water, so SSS or other fancy shaders are pretty unnecessary for this specific thing (although you definitely want them for other stuff, I LOVE them on skin). I turned off the mouth, teeth, tongue, eyelashes and sclera. Next time I would turn off the nostrils too, I think.

Like I said, it's resource-expensive. :D But I was excited to be able to get this result in 3Delight without special shaders, Luxus, or Reality.

Ooh ooooh! My turn, my turn! :D

Also using default Specular material (That's the transparent/reflective one in Indigo) and hidden the mouth stuff and eyelashes :3
Using Michael 3 and rendered for 17 minutes

    Cool! What is Indigo?
A shade of the colour purple, but that's not important right now...

The forums were down for me for 10 minutes.. ugh! Made me real hissy, and a hissy snake is not a happy snake! (angry face)

No glass demon renders tonight, too much content to install and organize and I just need to chill after today's insane idiocy at Muppet Labs.. I swear I feel like Beaker most days.. lol!

Had to explain to some people why I don't play guitar any more Makes me sad, but nothing is forever. I'm sure it's for the best, if I were ever stuck in anything forever I'd be a real pain in the caudal peduncle to any deity responsible! (angry face emote)

I should be writing. I have some small talent in that direction, and I can do it sober or stoned (like programming), and even my ex-wife said I was a good writer (which is a pretty strong positive vote given her insanely reductive attack on everything). So why don't I? I post in here every day, I blog every day and get 100-200 reads a day on my Red Room site.. wtf is wrong with me? (confused emote)

I feel the urge to write epic blank verse about a 100km long fish! Dang it Skiriki! Finish mythology has so many interesting turns!

i saw KK's avi with Safari last night. but can't see some avies on dayjob compy with IE8. plus it's too wide. i have to shuffle the horizon bar back and forth to read.

okay, changed the view to 100%, but now is so small reading makes me dizzy.
firefox browser would word wrap so i didn't have to do the shuffle thing. woes IE8.

So why aren't you using Firefox then? I never had that problem with IE8, but I did find it was slower than Firefox, and behaved oddly. For instance, I use MS development tools to build my website...and yet the site works better in Firefox than in IE8. (confused emote)

    dayjob compy corporate apps.

gave me W7 and outlook 2010.
the apps i need to use for my job, like
UPS Worldship, of course, aren't working. box to ship on my desk. mgr, "did you get it out today" me, "nope"

they don't have licenses for Access 2010, so we have Access 2007, but word/excell is 2010.

the bundled software with my scanner isn't working. the driver for win7 is there, but the buttons on the scanner for scan and copy aren't working.

the helpdesk dude as he's leaving says to me, "are we good" me, "nope, dead in the water"

i'll bring a couple magazines to read tomorrow.
a nice i5 compy, but job wise i'm totally hosed.

Why are there products available for use with a figure that hasn't been released?
Kinda like asking me to buy a hammer head with the handle to be available "soon".
If this is a sales strategy meant to produce excitement, head-scratching is not exciting.
    For future reference:

I was just about to say that too XD

I'm buying the Velociraptor (So cute) and Spinosaurus 2 (So handsome!)
The spinosaur is the closest match to the spinosaurus figure I've got here on my desk. Not as much scale detail though on the underbelly, and not much detail in terms of belly and neck wrinkles/folds, but still - handsome. Since I can't sculpt 'em in myself, I am in no position to complain ^_^

Olaf And the Kilometer Long Pike - Part One

In days of old in lands of ice
Sometimes the fishing wasn't so nice
    Viking boats in water cold
    Filled with warriors so bold
They cast a line into the ocean
    Suddenly there was commotion
    Valiantly the warrior stood
    With his fishing-rod of wood
But there was something he didn't like
He had hooked a kilometer-long pike.

In the water he was tugged
No big deal, he simply shrugged
Suddenly he let out a squeal
As he became a fishies meal
The ships they were all overturned
As through the water the pike burned
    Chowing down on Viking meat
The mighty crew all met defeat
    Instead of villages to attack
They wound up as a minor snack.

Word came to Olaf of this slaughter
    Dozens lost in fishy water
Olaf swore an oath that day
That the pike won't get away
Twelve brave men in Olafs crew
Knew just what they had to do
    Olaf hewed a mighty pine
And tied to it some fishing-line
Out the oars and off the shore
Some men freezing to their core
    This was not a picnic-hike
As Olaf sought the giant pike.

that happened to me once. i was waiting for the 7 P.M. bus. I was sitting down, then i went to stand up. bus had green light but drove by me. happened long time ago. had to call for a ride because the next bus would come one hour later. had i missed the 6 p.m. bus,, i would've caught the 6:30 bus.

i saw the storm clouds yesterday. the wind picked up too. no damage in my neighborhood. i saw the storm damage on T.V. it did not rain though. people were jogging outside during the severe thunderstorm warning.

i think i caught a summer cold. eww. and I wanted to play with Vue and my 6 year old 64 bit video card. i'll save my other comments about my computer for another post.

Olaf And the Kilometer Long Pike - Part Two

Dark the sky as fierce winds scream
Evil the depths of Olafs dream
In his nightmare swam the beast
And on his men he watched it feast
    Woken suddenly hearing a shout
He heard his men go running about
Up jumped Olaf from his cot
To the deck where he did spot
A giant fin and a foaming wake
The kilometer-long pike was not a fake.

Olaf grabs his pole of pine
And tied bait to the fishing-line
From Olafs jail he'd brought a churl
Who started screaming like a girl
Now pointed sharp good Olafs spotter
Churl and line cast into the water
Thrashing churl did make a splash
And for him the pike did make a dash
It swallowed him down as it went by
And cut the churl off in mid-cry.

    Olaf pulled the line taut
    Giving safety not one thought
His legs his men did grab on tight
They knew they were in for a fight
The pike it turned towards the boat
Then Olaf leaned down and he smote
The giant-fish head with mighty fist
But it did cause the boat to list
Despite the strength of Olafs horde
    Poor Olaf went right overboard.

Olaf And the Kilometer Long Pike - Part Three

Into the water brave Olaf fell
And he began to swim like Hell
Though Olaf did have mighty thews
A kilometer-long pike is real bad news
It was quite a madcap race
As the pike came rushing at Olafs face
But Olaf knew a fancy trick
And on pikes nose he gave a kick
It was surprised by this attack
Then Olaf jumped on to it's back.

Ignoring Olaf the huge pike jumped
On Olafs ship, the men all dumped
    Into the frothing water, wood
And men, and gear, and pickled food
    Floated wave-tossed in the air
The pike inhaled it without a care
So Olafs men, and mead, and boat
Slid right down the huge pikes throat
The pike was happy, it did not squelch
    A hearty, fishy-smelling belch.

    Olaf maddened with berserker rage
    Decided to take center stage
He beat the pike right in the head
Attempting to knock the huge thing dead
The pike it didn't seem to care
Or even notice great Olaf there
It started swimming far out to sea
as calmly as it could ever be
    Completely ignoring Olafs fists
As it swam off into the mists.
