Apropos of nothing in particular.. every time I think I an't sit down and write several hundred words in a day, something like this horrible bit of epic poetry happens and I become re-convinced that I can do it! (huge grin)

I hope i can polish off one of my 2 current short stories this weekend, wheeee!

Ugh, 1/2 a leftover burrito for lunch, blech, oh well.

Burrito is like submarine; it keeps surfacing. : )
I am saving my applause for the final installment.

Yeah, I should know better about burritos, but.. eh. (red face)

I think I can stretch the epic out for 2-3 more posts! (hee hee heeeeeeeee)

Olaf And the Kilometer Long Pike - Part Four

Deep the ocean and high the swells
As Olaf tired of fishy smells
Sore of fist exhausted and damp
    With a painful shoulder cramp
    Decides to try another approach
And on the pikes-head he did encroach
    Muttering quietly "What the heck"
He grabbed the pike-fish by the neck
    Thews went bulging, struggling more
The kilometer-long pike pointed back towards shore.

Olaf hung on for dear life
As the pike cut through water like a knife
Hours passed and Olaf fought on
Until his strength was nearly gone
But there is an end to the darkest night
As the Sun rose, to Olafs delight
On far horizon, he did spot
His home village, where lay his cot
He knew that soon this fish would land
He'd cook it right there in the sand.

Out on the beach a crowd did grow
As many came to watch the show
    Women, children, barking dogs
And pits were dug to roast some hogs
Mead was brought in by the barrel
Drunken revellers did start to carol
Toys were sold and money made
    To Olaf did bards serenade
There was nothing not to like
    Except the approaching kilometer-long pike.

(to be continued, there's one more triplet of stanzas left)

ROFL - maybe Google Translate? (smirk)

One more set of stanzas to go, but you might have to wait until tomorrow.. I'm dead tired, just fixed a MAJOR stop-ship problem, and I want to go home and drink myself insensenate - not a good state to be penning epic poetry in! (evil smirk)

Well, let's get you drunk then (^_^)d. I'll buy first round ;-).

(it doesn't have to be an award-winning translation you know - it just looks cool with all the little circles 'n things ... you could probably just recite your shopping list and it would read epically ;-) ).

Well, ok, you've got me there, but I am not a hardy Finnish bard! Chortle...

I won't keep you waiting for the grand finale past tomorrow, don't worry!

Okay, sounds like you're well-primed to start on epic translations then ;-).

    Now, repeat after me:

    Ennen vanhaan mailla jään
Joskus kalastusta ei ollut niin mukavaa
    Viking veneitä vesi kylmä
    Täynnä sotureita niin rohkea ...

See, now that just LOOKS epic right out of the box! Too cool!

Olaf And the Kilometer Long Pike - The Finale

Olaf smiled as crowds did cheer
    Looking forward to a beer
    Maybe he would sit a-bench
    Swiving with a frisky wench
Olaf grinned and felt a glow
Hot enough to melt the snow
Skalds would sing as strings they'd strike
About his victory over the pike
He would get his greatest wish
And feast for months on this huge fish.

    Swift the beach-head growing near
Olaf felt a twinge of fear
He grabbed the pike-neck with a frown
The giant fish would not slow down
Fins were thrashing, tail did stroke
The kilometer-long pike did go for broke
    Faster faster through the ocean
    Olaf discerned the fishes notion
It came to him in a sudden flash
The darn fish was going to crash.
    .
    .
Suddenly the pike did hit the shore
    And kept going further more
Crushing bards, and women, and men
The toy vendors got done in
    Crushed by massive fishy scales
That could easily knock off whales
Into the village the pike did reach
But still could stretch right to the beach
A few quick rolls and that was that
The pike had smashed the village flat.
    .
    .
Olaf fell stunned to the ground
    Surrounded by the awful sound
    Of crying children, women too
But there was nought that he could do
The giant pike writhed to the water
Slipped back in just like an otter
    Ridicule and lots of scorn
Was heaped on Olaf, as he mourned
Oh poor Olaf, he could never win
As kilometer-long pike gave him the fin.
    .
    .
    The End... for now!

Now I can spend the weekend NOT worrying about Olaf and that darned pike! I hope you all enjoyed it.. I'm going to post it on my Red Room authors page as a parody/comedy piece.

Almost time to leave.. I need to clean up and pack up before heading for the bus. Catch you all later!

Kinda like asking me to buy a hammer head with the handle to be available "soon".
If this is a sales strategy meant to produce excitement, head-scratching is not exciting.
    For future reference:
The horse goes in front of the cart. : )

...there's a whole 'nother thread which was started concerning this. It has been merged with a slightly older thread on the topic.

It's Friday but today blows and I have a bazillion complaints!

    - Bus drove right past me last night so I had to walk a mile and a half

that happened to me once. i was waiting for the 7 P.M. bus. I was sitting down, then i went to stand up. bus had green light but drove by me. happened long time ago. had to call for a ride because the next bus would come one hour later. had i missed the 6 p.m. bus,, i would've caught the 6:30 bus.
...dealt with this a lot as the stop I waited at was not always well lit. Ended up carrying a mini Maglite™ with me which I would turn on and wave as I saw the bus approaching a few blocks away (those little buggers are bright).

This spring there was an article in the local fishwrapper which brought to light the scary fact that many drivers/tram operators were working long shifts (sometimes on only 2 - 4 hours of sleep, I kid you not) after a bus knocked over a rail crossing signal gate and a light rail tram smashed through the barrier at the end of the line when the operators dozed off at the controls. Fortunately both bus and tram were empty at the time. It also included accounts of passengers who saw their driver nod off at a red light and or while the bus was actually moving.

Wouldn't doubt that a lot of the "pass ups" I and others experienced were not related to this.

Olaf And the Kilometer Long Pike - The Finale

    ...

    The End... for now!

    ...epic indeed!

Now I have to fire up Bryce as I've imported 3ds/.lwo ,objs into it before. Time to go "fishing" for that Pike freebie I found years ago before I realised Daz & 3DS were not compatible. Such an epic poem needs an epic illustration (so don't expect anything real "soon" now)

...I have Bryce which should also work. If I have to mess with a modeller I'll import it into Blender instead. Last time I tried to convert a model in Hex it kept freezing up on me.

Just use the old fashioned (and more reliable) way! You don't have to use smart content, especially when you were just pointed to exactly where to look.
