I love to visit my local bookstore, but I rarely read new fiction anymore. (choosing mostly 3D and digital art magazines instead).

In today's literary world the old maxim is wrong. You can judge a book by its cover. Just reading the cover blurb will let me know what bestseller is being cloned.

Normal girl falls in love with supernatural being.
Brave and abused girl triumphs over misfortune and insurmountable odds.
Young person with supernatural powers triumphs over evil.

These are cool themes and sometimes something original comes through, but how about Something Completely Different™ for a change?

I find what I read in these Forums much more interesting.

And I can only read the Classics so many times. : )

The amazing thing is that I poist non-PC stuff on my Red Room site and I don't get flack, in fact my hits went up to 200 a day for 4 days afterwards, when I posted about how I felt that I had enough experience with women to be able to write from a heroines perspective. Argh!

...oh it's not going to stop me from my work. As Jack Nicholson (portraying the Joker) in the original Batman film said:

"you can't make an omelette without breaking some eggs"

I guess I'm lucky. My day gig pays for everything, I don't need to be PC, or appeal to the lowest common denominator, or filter my experience trough someone ELSES censors.. I can write what I want, for those that like what I say, and not fear some Orwellian big brother coming down on me.

I don't think I'm radical.. I don't think I'm any different than anyone else caught in this world, sucked down into the darkly shining jewel. I am, as ever, a man among men. I'm just me. As yu are all.. just you. There is nothing wrong with that.

I had a long hard time explaining to someone on chat why I 'm celibate. Some things don't communicate well, analogically or not,m if the recipient doesn't have the same experience.

I wish I could take my whole life and code it into cube, so that the next person that couldn't understand me could experience my entire life in 60 seconds. It'd save me a lot of useless effort.

Olaf And the Kilometer Long Pike - Part Three

Into the water brave Olaf fell
And he began to swim like Hell
Though Olaf did have mighty thews
A kilometer-long pike is real bad news
It was quite a madcap race
As the pike came rushing at Olafs face
But Olaf knew a fancy trick
And on pikes nose he gave a kick
It was surprised by this attack
Then Olaf jumped on to it's back.

Ignoring Olaf the huge pike jumped
On Olafs ship, the men all dumped
    Into the frothing water, wood
And men, and gear, and pickled food
    Floated wave-tossed in the air
The pike inhaled it without a care
So Olafs men, and mead, and boat
Slid right down the huge pikes throat
The pike was happy, it did not squelch
    A hearty, fishy-smelling belch.

    Olaf maddened with berserker rage
    Decided to take center stage
He beat the pike right in the head
Attempting to knock the huge thing dead
The pike it didn't seem to care
Or even notice great Olaf there
It started swimming far out to sea
as calmly as it could ever be
    Completely ignoring Olafs fists
As it swam off into the mists.

    (to be continued)

Frabjous, likes the pikes. Is it an Iron Pike?

Now I can spend the weekend NOT worrying about Olaf and that darned pike! I hope you all enjoyed it.. I'm going to post it on my Red Room authors page as a parody/comedy piece.

Almost time to leave.. I need to clean up and pack up before heading for the bus. Catch you all later!

Blah... I picked the wrong day to be run over by the Arthur truck when it was loaded to the GILLS with Arthur bricks.

Missed (but read) the Wooly Olf ballad, KK got that bothersome render off the ground (it flies), Rezca wanders off to mesh world, where it ends I can only guess. Some stuff about Ski and Bushy tales up the nose and so much more I can not try to cover it all.

So that's my complaint. I hurt more than I remember ever hurting before in my life. Nothing has helped not even doctor allowed over amping of my meds, the suggested physical therapy to loosen the joints (pick one any one in the human body) earned my live in helper a special place in heck if my wishes have any weight at the time it matters. 24 plus hours of fully broken and darn near not able to enjoy much at all just is not right if you ask me. OKAY that's the full complaint.

I thank you all for making parts of my day better. Now about that writing thing Wooly, I'm a hack I know I'm a hack but nobody here read my BWC stuff anyway so I'll just shut up now while I'm ahead.

I'm really loving the Light Layers feature - being able to change the intensity, temperature (And thus color), and even disable lights in the scene WHILE it is rendering... Is an awesome thing to play with ^_^

I'm sure that you aren't planning to "clone" an existing novel (or series of novels) because it's the kind of thing that sells at the moment. It is that type of behavior on the part of hacks and publishing houses that I was decrying, KK.
