As I understand it, KK is a guy. Kyoto Kid is a pseudonym of his fictional "daughter" Leela, whose story is being written and illustrated as a long-term project of KK's.

    I am a guy...wait a sec (checks)...yup, I'm a guy.

    ...right on one count.

Actually, Kyoto Kid is my second and longest running (as well as surviving) character from the Shadowrun RPG. I started her in the early 90s (1st edition) and last played her in 2005 (4th edition). In all those years she amassed a lot of "karma" (which could be used to improve attributes, skills, and in her case as an awakened Adept, special martial arts abilities). She is now basically what is known as a "Prime Runner" in the terms of the world setting. effectively becoming a female "Jackie Chan" but with one twist in that she also is an expert at what is referred to in the game as "Gun Fu". She eventually grew in power to the stage that the GM would often just "handwave" a fight and say she won without rolling the dice.

I first used the Kyoto Kid ID on the Shadowrun forums (naturally) and it just kind of stuck after that.

Leela came on the scene much later (2003 -04) and was created while I was watching The Fifth Element one evening. I needed a character for a new Shadowrun campaign and wanted someone with Demolitions as the major focus. At first I was patterning the character off of Ace from Dr Who (who actually looked like she belonged in a Shadowrun setting). However, while watching Fifth Element, I totally fell in love with Leeloo's child like nature which contradicted how truly dangerous she really was (remember the fight scene with Zorg's henchmen on Fhloston Paradise?).

So thus, the demure child like girl from Zagreb who had not only a special gift for music, but for blowing things up as well was born. .

...and yes, the name Leela was derived from Leeloo (not the "one eyed" Leela from Futurama) with her last name, "Groznek" borrowed from an episode of Star Trek Enterprise (I just changed the "i" in the original name to an "e").

Of all the characters I've had, she was the most well liked by the other players who were sorry to see her "retire". (the GM had me put a portion of her karma awards each session into performance skills with the goal of getting her back on the concert stage). Made for an interesting background story during the course of the campaign. She was a lot of fun throughout her "career" as I had her react and speak just like Leeloo from the film did (Leela was also a big fan of some old films and novels about this fellow named Bond). I'll never forget the first session when the ":Johnson" (the "anonymous" person who hires a runner group for a job) asked the team "what's with the kid?" She glared at him and then pulled a block of C-6 (a plastic explosive in the game) with a radio detonator wired to it from her shoulder bag and replied 'I'm not a kid, I blow things up, you know, make big badda boom! You wanna see?" (at that moment the "armed" status light on the detonator lit up). Having caught his and the other runners' attention, she then mentioned of her experience with the Croatian Resistance which in the end pretty much convinced him (remember the scene in RoTJ when Leia posed as a bounty hunter at Jabba's place and armed a thermal detonator? yeah, kinda borrowed that scene and nobody caught it). The detonator was just rigged to light up on her command and actually never would have set the explosive off. She may have looked and sounded young and innocent, but she was after all, a seasoned veteran of the resistance.

After I retired her, I began to see there was still potential with the character, so I developed my own scenario (using her as an NPC or GM's personality) in which she was abducted by the Serbians and the players had to go find and rescue her. I had planned to submit the campaign arc to the publishers after playtesting it. I was actually in contact with one of their editors/developers who was interested that I was fleshing out a part of the world [the Balkans] for which they had apparently lost all the material on in a hard drive crash (and who effectively gave me "carte blanche" to rewrite). I had spent months studying the 1990s Balkan war after the breakup of Yugoslavia and based much of the setting on it a well as writing the history line between the Euro Wars of the 2030s and the "present day" of 2060 making sure it fit within their overall European timeline.

However in the summer of 2005 the parent company decided to release an entire rewrite of the rules system from the ground up and suspended all other projects as well as ceasing to accept any new submissions, for the older rule set..

Having spent over 18 months working on the scenario and background, I still finished the playtesting and afterwards, decided to use the outline for an actual story instead as it no longer fit with the new the timeline of the game (which was moved up to 2070). I also wasn't about to reinvest in all the rules expansions and source books all over again, particularly as I didn't much care for the new rules mechanics (which made the game play and feel more like an MMO rather than a true P&P RPG).

So that is the real background on Leela. She has no relation to Kyoto Kid and the two never met even in passing. In a way, yes she almost seems like a daughter now as I have been working so much on her personality and story over the years.

Fyre's female. I just found it was easier to write my stories from the POV of Samuel. He was actually Fiancee's character for an online roleplay game we were going to be in but though the campaign didn't last long before the GM had family problems and vanished, I was so in love with the story Fiancee and I had made with our characters that I had to write it down. I only took a bare smidgeon of the GMs idea (Haley's comet in 1910 sparked a sudden rise of super power) and then made everything else unique (borrowing some more of Fiancee's characters from various other games, with his permission).

When I play a female characters the male characters think that I am a guy. lol

I found wancow's old thread about genders and females using the computer at http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/19035/

    It is interesting to read.

...interesting about Haley's comet as in the Shadowrun setting, when it passed by again in 2061 it had an unusual affect on some individuals. There were even two related scenario modules published: "Year of the Comet" and "Wake of the Comet".

Thanks all! The eye size for Dragon 3 maxes out at 1. I went into the settings and cranked it up to 3. You can't have a cute little hatchling without big eyes.
