How big is a floppy? If I had a floppy drive, how many discs would I need to back up my terabyte hdd?

Only about 874,000 if you minimize slack space.

so probably not the most practical way of backing up the hdd.

    DOSBox? http://www.dosbox.com/download.php?main=1

an awesome little open source emulator that is *surprisingly* stable and functional! very easy to use

lets you 'mount' directories/folders as if they were drives (hard drives or CDROM) while providing DOS functionality and a bridge between Windows (and some other OSes I think) output and the DOS environment (so the program you run in the emulator will think you have a SoundBlaster, right memory, mouse, etc.) Even has built-in speed ramping so you can adjust how many cycles your DOS program is getting (since that was the days before threads) so it isn't too fast. I have been very impressed with it

so yes, you can reclaim your old games in their full glory!

Ah yes. In my old Amiga days we had a Disk mounter that was very much the same thing. It allowed running the older files from folders that could no longer be booted from the new OS. Very nice TY much.

It sounds real pretty. One thing about Aus you notice straightaway is teh awesome flatness going on forever :)

The countryside is kinda pretty. The cities can be far apart.

I found a car that has the steering wheel on the right side. The minimum driving age in most states of Australia is 17 but Julie is younger. lol

I used to dive in the caves at Port MacDonnel not far from Mount Gambier. Gambier is an old (really really old) volcano, has a bottomless lake that is quite marvellous on the edge of a couple of deserts :)

    http://portmacdonnell.sa.au

holy CRAP?!?!? You were a cave diver!?!?!

... and here I always thought you were the sane one of the bunch of us! O.o

don't get me wrong - it's beautiful and all, but that is a pursuit with a shockingly high mortality rate (and, being an unlucky individual, I am prone to being 'risk adverse'!)

Always felt safe and in capable hands and never had any trouble, but was never a proper spelunker either, more a weekend tourist kinda thing. There are spectacular caves in the central Australian aquifer you can only get to with a dive :)

Let's just say it's either you or your floppies...there wouldn't be room for the both of you in your current residence. In fact, let's see...the 3.5" floppies held 1.44MB...but there were high density ones, I think, that held 2.88MB. But the former is the more common one. Let's round it off and say two would hold 3MB...it actually wouldn't quite, but just for Gig(gles). So, 660 of them would be just under one Gigabyte. So, it would take about 660,000 (plus some odd) 1.44MB 3.5" floppies to back up a one Terra-byte drive. Laid out on the floor (assuming you had a floor this big) that would cover an area of about 56,145.833333 square feet! Approximately. :gulp:

I don't want to think about how long that would actually take, seeing that floppy drives are considerably slower access than hard drives! I think what you were backing up would be obsolete by the time you got half way through! :gulp:

heh - been there, done that

though I have been in Mobile (was back in 89 I think) when it was in the high 90's (F), Fog, drizzling rain AND sitting right at 100% humidity (by the meters)! O.o

I have been *in* saunas that were less hot and wet

Tampa now... it is built on the leeward side of the bay with the bay on one side and a huge swamp on the other! The *only* breeze in the summer is from the wings of the mosquitos as they carry off small animals and children (when they don't just drain them dry and leave the husk). Oh, and it *smells* like a brackish swamp too - if you have been in New Orleans, you know the rotten, moldy smell it would sometimes get in the summer at nep-tide? Well, Tampa will *stay* like that for months - it is, without exception, the most miserable place I have ever been (and I have been to a few).

i should leave now to catch the bus on time. being on time was never one of my virtues. 10 minutes late means i get docked for 1/4 hour.

found some hello kitty bandaides. iz pink. i'm all pink today, cept my socks. prolly pink overkill. does pastel pink go with forest green? ... changing my pants to the green ones.

    Heh, had a fantastic dream a few nights back. Was painting all digitally and stuff, and my god that detail ;_;
Almost hurt my eyes to look at xD

Was a big fantasy dino. In an equally fantasy place.
Mind told me the following things about teh dream:
(By this I mean it's stuff I "knew" about it even though it may never have specifically been stated)

*Dino was a mix of feathers, fluff, scales, and dragon spikes
    *name 'Tyrannosaurus Midgardii'
*Location was obviously near or at Midgard (Not on Earth though, just was named as such)
    *Lots of snow!
    *Glowing things about, geysers too

Eeee, really trying to get that design memorized because it looked so beautiful and majestic... Really don't want to forget that bit, it's sooo damn hard for me to come up with fantasy designs on my own, this is like... ><</p>

Summer is almost here. I tried to dress Dawn in a swimsuit but the texture will not load. I found the swimsuit on ShareCG, I think. Now I need to fine the readme file and send the artist a bug report.

edit: um... the folder for the textures doesn't exist. :ohh: I wonder if the artist forgot to include the folder in the zip file.
