Exactly what I was thinking!
Dana
My first thought was the old unix text editor.
...I think of the Vergin Islands.
As in VIM? People still use that for programming.
...well seems my old Microsoft optical mouse finally gave out so I need to get a new one. Been great for years but I think a loose connection inside finally gave out as if I move it just a little the LED inside for the optical sensor goes out and it stops functioning. Also getting a recurring message pop up concerning a USB device that is not recognised with more and more frequency. So have to brave the driving rain & wind tomorrow to go get a new one. I have the trackball for Daz but it's not really efficient for general use as I can't scroll up and down a page with it. Small expense but like I mentioned the weather tomorrow is going to be horrible with strong winds and heavy rain. If I order one for delivery, it will take several days and I can't go through one day limping along like this.
Looked to see if I could open it but it's all glued together, Gotta' love obsolescence.
Ooh, ooh, "vi" I loved "vi". I was an absolute wizard at "vi" I could cast complex spells that caused sparks to fly from my fingers. (*sigh*) I miss the all-text environment of UNIX. Where an editor like "vi" or "ed", or "sed" could perform miracles of search/replace within a sentence, paragraph, file or entire library with just a few keystrokes of magic symbols. Knowing the magic language of "Regular Expressions" gave one access to incredible power. Long strings of backslashes, question marks, periods, asterisks, dashes, etc. just flew from my fingers confounding any onlookers with the undecipherability and yet near instantaneous miraculous results and answer to their question. Ah yes, "vi"
My first thought was Warshawski
how do you people know so much about banking and monetary transactions? Are you accountants? Do you run a store? Oh, i guess the staff and moderators are familliar with the shopping cart on this website. Duh. For a second I thought I was on another forum.
edit #2: I just saw a gateway 502 timeout. :(
Sick computer update: OK, I'm almost convinced that my problem has been the power supply all along. Some research on the Internet has illuminated my brain about power supply warranties, Chinese vs Japanese capacitors, brand quality, etc. and a check through my own records reveals that my 2 year warrantied PS was installed 5 years ago (Wow, time flies fast when you're having fun). It was a low end brand, and used cheap parts, and I used it heavily every day. Rarely letting it sleep. So, that, in conjunction with the rock solid performance of my sick computer since temporarily attaching a brand-new, quality PS leads me to believe that I could have solved all my problems with a new PS for around $50. (*sigh*) But as I said before, it's time I upgraded my systems. Fortunately, and just in time, my $600 "stimulus" check has arrived in my checking account. I'll just throw that money right back into the economy. When done with this round of computer upgrades I will have two, powerful, modern machines. Each still capable of future improvements. Enough growth potential for another decade. In addition, if a new power supply for the old sick HP fixes the issue, then that still eminently useable machine will be added to my stable of old, slow, but still functional friends. To be called upon as needed. Even if just to update their OS or warm the room a little.
So, now I'm off to NewEgg to take advantage of the current sale on a Corsair CX450 450 watt powersupply for the old HP geezer.
So it's a Winter Wonderland in my city. As I was taking my niece to get a birthday cake, I slipped in the parking lot and busted half of my
Back at home, I slipped on the stairs and busted the other half.
After I recovered what must be $5000 USD of coins that fell out of the purse I was carrying, I went back to the car, which I discovered was stuck in a patch of snow that was hardening into ice. After a brief scene that probably looked like one of those fetish videos in which the girl absolutely cannot get a car going, I got the car unstuck.
After getting the car parked and finally getting safely indoors, the maintenance crew came to shovel the snow so nobody would get hurt.
The cake is fine.
My boyfriend is coming to visit but he needs his uncle to take him here. His uncle seems to be taking his time.
too sexi for my shirt, so sexi it hurts

...still waiting on mine, not sure why it is taking so long as I certainly don't make over 112.000$ a year, more like one tenth that. Have the two matching displays I plan to purchase in the cart from at Newegg waiting to hit the "buy button when the deposit is made.
On another note picked up a new mouse at Target for 6$, so nice to have stable control again. Was able to time the trip during a lull in the rain, however wind began kicking up on my way home (supposed to have 50 mph gusts tonight). Fortunately the tram had a stop right by the store and also stops almost at my building's door so only a brief exposure to the elements. Totally worth the 1.25$, 2-½ hour fare.
my feet so swollen, is soo ugly.
its all up to DC comics, after marvel self destructed. i refuse to watch the last x mans
...
i went to a website for a cellular phone company. I couldn't determine how to actually buy a phone plan online. I spend 15 minutes looking for the purchase button. I'm not going to their retail store in the middle of lockdown. i'm going to choose a competitor's plan instead. :D
Sorry about your falls, but so glad to hear about the cake. But I know why you kept slipping. Anybody who carries $5000 in US coins with them needs a strong back and stable legs. Either that or you couldn't handle your wheelbarrow. Even if it was all in $25 rolls of $1 coins, that would be 200 of them weighing 89.29 pounds (40.58kg).
Query for the idle and curious: Would any quantity of US coins (identical or mixed demoninations) totalling $5000 weigh less than 89.29 pounds? Which denomination (or combination) would weigh the most?
I thought that YouTube premium allowed me to see the videos when the app isn't active but I can only hear it. Bummer.
is a cold damp rainy 37f. working up the energy to brew a cuppa barry's. 2021 blah so far. ssips of amaretto be just the thing.

...an unexpected and welcome break in the wet week particularly after how windy to became yesterday and last night. Woke up to sunny skies this morning and temps in the mid 50s. Should stay dry until this evening when the rain returns until a break on Thursday. At least it's going to remain mild, around or in the 50s throughout the week.
sounds like a comfy climate.
Continuation of weather reports: It's been just above freezing, and wet & drizzly here for a couple days. Not typical weather for western NY State in January. But becoming moreso. Great Lake Erie hasn't frozen yet and most of the storms have approached us from the southwest and haven't had much snow in them. But when a cold storm does come from the west or northwest over the lake and absorbs the moist air over the unfrozen lakes we will get mondo amounts of lake effect snow as the moisture laden air rises over the hills on the east side of the lake.
Non-complaint: Still rock solid behavior from my sick computer while using the temporary power supply. I didn't want to miss the sale at NewEgg for a replacement so I ordered it last night. Meanwhile, I've been laying out my plans for playing a game of 3-computer musical chairs. Identifying which case gets which pieces of it's hardware moved to which other case, and which computer gets new hardware. And which computer has to go sit in the corner when it's all over. I've also been identifying files that need to be copied or moved. And which softwares have to be installed or reinstalled. Also, there's the job of arranging for new computer positioning and cable layouts. (New case has a window so it, of course, has to be arranged so it can be seen instead of facing the wall..)
I'm all tidied up now but last night and most of today I had various boxes of used parts open and their contents strew over the floor. I found two used but empty 1TB hard drives and a brand-new DVD r/w drive still in its box. What I don't have is a good keyboard to replace the one that died a few days ago. I'm currently using my Russian (Cyrillic) keyboard but I don't like the feel or layout and my fingernails chip the decal stick-on lettering on the keytops. Cheap keyboards these days. Grrrr... I remember when you could use a keyboard as a Cricket bat. Well, not really, but at least the lettering was molded into the keys in a different color plastic, not stuck on with decals. Cheap, cheap, cheap.
Meant to post this earlier.
The Microsoft Natural Ergonomic keyboard doesn't have decals, but it is printed on the keys and the letters wear off. But, as I'm a touch typist, it doesn't matter to me. But when my sister tries to do something on my computer, she complains because she doesn't know where the letters are. I tried to help her, give her software like Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing, but she has better things to do. So...

Next time I'm walking on a sheet of ice, I will carry a cactus instead since that will be less heavy. I don't anticipate anything going wrong.
