Non-complaint:  Wheee... my oolong tea arrived today.  Mmmm... all I need now is some Moo Goo Gai Pan or Orange Beef, or Szechuan Chicken & a fortune cookie.

'Nother non-complaint:  Still glad I'm not in Texas this week.  News stories of people burning their children's wooden toys, or their wooden fences for heat.  How long before they're burning their neighbor's fences?  There was a scene in the movie "Dr. Zhivago" where Yuri (Omar Sharif) was stealing fence wood to heat his room and was discovered by a policeman who turned out to be his brother/half-brother? (Alex Guinness)  My, how history repeats itself when it comes to survival.indecision

"Dr. Zhivago" excellent movie.  Long, but worth the story and the photography.

I iz tired... Snooleet was falling in quantity... not much accumulation maybe four or five inches and most was snowblowered away.
At one point the alleged "snowflakes" were the size of three or four cornflakes stuck together...

Then it turned to pretty looking ice BBs...

    Then little sticks of snow...

Then weird frozen rain and other assorted nonsense like crystals that looked like tiny glass coral branches...

I think nature was bored and trying out new stuff... but in the end it mostly tapered off and got icy, so I said "screw this, I'm going inside to eat and maybe drink some sort of alcoholic beverage", but apparently the crow who was watching me didn't seem to care... I'm not sure what I expected from him, but if you are a crow and you are going to be out in the open in the snow and standing there watching me shovel icy snow like some disinterested harbinger of calamari (I wrote "calamity", but spellcheck insists it's calamari that I mean, so...), judging me from afar, and I start talking to you, you can at least say "Nevermore" or something, instead of just sitting there like some feathery jerk on a branch.

But anyway... while I was out there I was thinking about making a "White Russian", which is a drink that's usually made out of khalúa, vodka, half & half, and maybe milk or something... I don't know, I'm never really consistent with it, I think I made it with a spider who didn't get out of the glass fast enough once.
This time I was thinking of making it with 1/2 & 1/2  and Vanilla Soy Milk... I tried that a few days ago and it wasn't bad... it was actually pretty good... but since I have no standards, don't go by me... I drank a spider... which was actually pretty good too...
    Anyway...
When I got inside, someone had stacked some ottomans we just bought in front of the cabinet that holds the liquor... initially I thought it was a clever reference to the decline of the Sultanate of Rum and the division of the Anatolian peninsula into separate principalities which would eventually lead to the  rise of the Ottoman Empire... but apparently nobody knew Rûm (pronounced "rum") was once synonymous with the Byzantine empire and its people, so the ottomans blocking my access to the rum in the cabinet was just coincidence, and they were actually there because they are going back to the store because they are kinda flimsy.
Explaining the whole thing about Rûm and Rum, and Ottomans and ottomans to my wife, tired me out and made her wish the liquor cabinet wasn't blocked...

So I decided I'd have some nice warm tea instead... and since I was already holding a corn muffin or several (the legendary magical corn muffins of Malrogur), I thought the muffins would go well with some nice camomile tea... a little honey and vanilla... but that was all gone...

Apparently whoever finished it left me an empty box so I'd know the tea was finished and that I didn't imagine it's existence and that it was really real.

Which if you think about it is kinda nice... normally if it was any other household, when the tea or milk or toilet paper was finished, someone would replace the item or throw out the box or remains... and you'd either never know it was used up or you be confronted with some sort of existential crisis of some sort, questioning the fabric of reality... "does toilet paper never run out?"... "do cow fairies replace the milk I drink?"... but not here.
Then I remembered that conversation about Oolong tea the other day and I was like "Damn, these muffins are weird tasting now..." that thought had nothing to do with oolong tea which apparently I had already added to my tea mug while I was wonder why the muffins tasted a bit like ikea furniture...

So you know, my coffee mug is a 24 ounce soup mug, and my coffee mug is also my tea mug as well as a mug to any warm beverage including soup... mostly everything but soup... so the six tea bags I placed in my mug make sense... to me... I don't know if that's a thing normal people do, but that's what I did... I also like my tea really strong... if I don't have hallucinations after I drink tea, I feel like it wasn't worth it...

After I drank the tea, I looked at the clock and realized it wasn't on the wall and I was looking at the place where the clock usually is... I guess that means it's on my computer desk waiting for batteries, because apparently the friggin' battery fairy died and now I'm the only one left who is qualified to change the batteries in things... apparently that PhD in batteryology was worth it after all.

Anyway... I probably shouldn't have drank that tea because it was kinda late for that and now I'm going to be really annoying for the rest of the evening.

Which is okay with me because I just annoy everyone else.

Well... I've got nothing else to say, and apparently I'm typing faster that spellcheck can keep up with, so I should probably go... also I forgot where this story was going and I'm kinda bored with it too now...

    Cheers folks.

  • Millions died this week.  No, billions.  Maybe trillions.  What's next...frillions?  Well, they're all gone, as dead as dead can be.  Completely wiped out.  Scorched earth, er, boiled ocean...yeah, it's like that.  Well, it must have seemed like an ocean to them.  It was the only home they had known.

They had been living there for many generations; at least for a month.  Eating, drinking, warming themselves in the Florida sunshine, carrying on with each other, raising their young, or so I would suppose, since there were way too many of them for them all to have come from outside of the environment.  They lived their lives, by the frillions (yeah, I'm going with that), raising their young, not electing leaders, not mowing lawns that they didn't have, not driving or taking a bus to work, because...well, they didn't work; not a one of them.  They were basically just doing whatever they do, not going to concert and sports events, because they didn't have concerts and sporting events.  No athletes and not even a single diner with a blue plate special.

They never knew that their end was nigh upon them until it was too late.  They couldn't escape, what without fins with which to swim, wings with which to fly, vertebrae with which to slither, or legs for running (and no land to run upon anyway).  Their killer didn't warn them, didn't even attempt to negotiate for treaty or compromise.   One day they were there, and the next, they were not.

Even now, after their mass passing, there are no moments of silence, no sorrow, and no pronouncements of remorse or even respect.  All there is, is emptiness where they once were, and their remains solemnly, silently scattered about the ground and in a drainage pipe.

In other news, hey, I got rid of all the algae in my pool, and it should be ready for swimming once we have a week or two in the mid-80s, which might be as soon as March 1st!  laugh

  • Real complaint:

I'm getting MORE frustrated that multi-quote stopped working a couple months ago and still hasn't been fixed.  This has almost completely shut down my ability to participate in conversations with my friends here.  I just DON'T have time to respond one-at-a-time and lose my place in the thread with each quote.

    DAZ, please restore that feature.

Complaint: Finally got Xtransfer. Tried to transfer morphs one section at a time. Everything went well for the first two sections. Then I got to "Full Body." Lots of morphs here. Something went wrong and the script quit. Now I don't know what needs to be redone and my G3 throws out a duplicate formal error when loaded. :(  I'll get it figured out, but not relishing the time lost. I haven't felt productive in days.

When I was a kid, we would play whiffleball in our back yard.  It was surrounded by a wire cyclone fence.  One of our friends ran into that fence while trying to snag a high foul ball.  I don't know how the hell he did it, but he hit the fence in such a way that one of the wires punctured his lower lip.  He was stuck on the fence and we had to help get his lip disengaged.

He kind of got a piercing before it was a thing, lol.

And no, we didn't sharpen our fence!

I have... stuff. Not sure how up-to-date everything is though. The error went away after a few minutes. No idea why. Seems like Xtransfer rolls back changes when it fails, which is nice. I just had to go through and do them in batches of three, find the one that failed, and move on. Haven't lost anyone I'm attached to so far.

I do really need to get better about my backups.  Can't decide if keeping my external HD plugged in to allow automatic updates defeats the purpose.

    Anyway, crisis averted!

...GenX/GenX2  are so much easier in this respect. . The fact there would be no new version of it (as the PA passed on a few years ago) is one of the reasons I stopped at G3.

Currently having issues with the G8 - G3 Clothing Converter scripts as even converting each component of a clothing product one at a time, not everything transfers.

If you have gotten two stimulus payments (probably $1200 and $600) then you have already gotten all that is currently approved. There is a bill in Congress for a third payment but it has not yet been passed. So currently there is no more new payments.

I recently got one of those letters but on close inspection I found it refered to my second ($600) stimulus payment that I had all ready gotten several months ago. So, I just ignored the letter.

What?  Another stimulus check has been authorized?surprise  My brother mentioned last week that he'd gotten one but I thought he had just misspoke about an income tax refund.  Now, I feel left out.  I haven't seen anything since my first payment last year.  Bummer.  It would go a long way to help me recover from my recent computer upgrades (gotta put that money back into my savings account).  And provide stimulus to the ecomomy too.indecision

Complaint:  Arghhh... I checked the SS website and determined that I should have gotten my 2nd payment direct deposit by now and since I didn't get it back in January then they said that I should check with my bank, but of course today is Friday so I have to wait until Monday.  If they didn't get it (probably not) then I have to make a special claim form and file Income Tax for 2020 despite not actually needing to file Income Tax for the last 10 years (one of the benefits of being old, unemployed and poor)  Now, I'm also worried about the 3rd payment.  One of the complications is that I changed my mailing address last year from a PO Box to my actual street address.  But wait..., the last mailing I got from the SS used my street address, so they know about my address change.  (*Sigh,  I hate trying to unbooger bureaucracy)frown  I can have the SS trace what happened to my payment but not until I check with the bank first.indecision

No, see my post above. There have only been two. The first stimulus check was $1200 in April 2020 and the second one was $600 in late Dec 2020 to early January 2021.  The letter I got (and probably Misty's letter) refered to the second payment.

ETA: I see you revised your post to leave out mention of $600 which made me think you had gotten your second payment

Correct, I realized my mistake.  I'd received the first $1200 deposit but everybody's been talking about a $600 check lately and I had 600 on the brain.  I just cut that reference to try to hide my boo-boo.  But to no avail, your repost froze it in cement and my mistake will remain in the cloud for eternity.frown  I'll survive.

    Complaint...

The other day when it snowed, I was using the snowblower on the driveway and all of a sudden the thing made a horrible noise like the auger had shattered, and before I could pull the shutoff key, it started spitting out shredded chunks of something... Apparently the asshats who deliver the local Pennysaver sales circulars had decided...
1- Despite there being a "keep the hell off the friggin' roads unless it's an emergency" warning, they'd still deliver the paper...
2- For whatever reason they decided to not use the bright orange bags they normally use if it snows...

Normally, they'd not deliver the stupid things if it is more than two or three inches... the circulars are delivered like a newspaper, wrapped in a long white bag or protective sleeve, but when it snows they put them in an orange bag so you can see them... and so you don't suck them up into your snowblower which could have extremely bad consequences, not to mention destroy the machine.
I guess they decided that's a me problem and not a them problem... If the auger blades broke and someone was in the path of the ejected blade, that could have been lethal... in fact, Toro issued a recall the other day for defective or badly designed augers that pose that sort of threat on their own.

So yeah, lucky I didn't damage the snowblower, but my whole front lawn was showered with half a newspaper worth of pennysaver confetti... which I wasn't able to fully pick up in the snow storm... but, now that it's melting a bit, I can revel in the beauty of... not to mention that it was super fun to remove the mangled paper from the auger mechanism and unwrap the bag from the auger shaft with my bare hands in the middle of a snow storm.

    Megh.
