One set of cards arrived.  Now I am waiting for the other set to arrive.  I've been busy doing some financial stuff online and learning some IT stuff.  Don't worry about me.  I'm o.k.

That's exactly what you'd write if you were a sentient caribou trying to pass itself off as the real starionwolf.

Well, maybe not... they have hooves which are notoriously hard to type with... of course they could forcing you under duress to type that, or they could be using some dictation software or Siri, Alexa or Burt...

I'm not sure who Burt is, but I kinda feel I heard that somewhere when I was outside... I think some lady who was on line in front of me said "Burt!..Dial work... Burt!"...

In retrospect, I think she may have actually said "Burp!"... because the air smelled like stale baloney afterwards... but it was before Covid so it was probably okay...

Not that it's okay to randomly burp or pass gas on line, but it wasn't a Covid burp... but then again if it were recently, with my mask I wouldn't have been able to smell it.

When the pandemic is over I'm gonna miss my mask... humans are real stinky creatures... they are always smelling up the place with their sweaty armpits, baloney burps and Taco Bell farts.

Oh, I forgot... you are probably a caribou, so you know that... but not for nothing, don't be too judgie, caribou kinda smell too... it's like you guys don't shower... ever... it's like you took a sweaty horse and rubbed a sweaty goat all over them and then let it ferment in a stale humid hay filled basement.

Nothing personal... I'm sure you hardly notice.

I'm sorry if that was judgmental of me, but it's 2021 and I think it's time we are honest with other species... like I'm just totally waiting for a goat to make a comment because I've got a word or two for them... there is a road near my house that every time I go down it I pass a small farm with goats... there are these same two goats that are always there on this big jungle gym and they hang out on to so the can see over the fence... all high and mighty like the own the world... and when I pass by they always are eyeballing me, giving me the stink eye...

    Goats...

I know you are probably saying that's not right of me to judge goats like that, but anyone who's ever gone to a petting zoo knows what I'm talking about... those goats, they'll pretend they are your best buddy as long as you have a handful of alfalfa pellets (I think they are, they taste like alfalfa), but the moment you run out they don't wanna know you...

    Sorry...

Well, in the event I misread your statement and you are just plain ol' starionwolf, not being held hostage by caribou... then...

    I dunno...

Hi?... I'm glad to hear you are ok and just chillin' out learning IT stuff and munching bales of hay...

That was a test to see how you'd react when I mentioned hay...

That would of worked better if it was in person so I could see your expression... also if you had antlers too, because that would actually be the bigger giveaway...

You know what... I'm not getting involved anyway... I got involved when kyoto kid was being stalked by kangaroos and even though it had a relatively good outcome and kyoto kid managed to keep most of his memories after MI6 used that memory wiping ray on him, I still feel responsible for what happened to that small village... it was a Santa's Village at a mall, so it's not that bad, since it was mostly those lazy elves who got crushed, but still... I said I'm not going through that again.
Or rather I think kyoto kid said that I should never have gotten involved and that it wasn't actually a problem and there weren't any kangaroos... but that was right before MI6 erased his memory, so he probably doesn't remember any of that... which is good considering what I put the poor guy through and how he will never be allowed in Holland again... or Norway... come to think of it, most of the Nordic countries as well as Portugal and weird little island country that sound like it's run by fish...

Anyway... he's fine and probably hasn't noticed any of the scars, and I'm sure you'll be just fine too... unless you are a smelly caribou...

In that case... I'm on to you...

    Cheers!

...aww bugger Portugal is one of the countries I've considered moving to as it has a nice climate and is not terribly expensive. Nothing better than hanging out at a cafe drinking a glass of fine oporto and smoking a good cigar on a nice day. Then there's those cute Lisbon trams that are sort of like roller coasters but ones that actually take you to interesting and historic places..

Holland, well save for Amsterdam having some magnificent baroque pipe organs and being a cyclist's "Elysium", the climate isn't as nice as Portugal, it's more expensive, to live in, and they've been moving to limit foreigners access to the infamous red light district and it's cannabis bars.

Bought 10 games for VR from Steam. Had to return every. single. one. They are either not compatible with my headset or broken or very poorly made.

VR has its moments, but the content is sparse, expensive and from what I read in the reviews, all the games are short with few exceptions.

Decorating my VR house is my favorite part so far, but no one wants to visit.

Back to 2D gaming for a while. These Monks aren't going to romance themselves.

Did you try "Obduction"?  I know it's not a shoot-em-up, everybody dies type of game, but rather an adventure game in the style of "Myst" by essentially the same people.  And it's new enough and detailed enough and I belive is VR capable.  And one can spend days in the world finding places to get a new viewpoint and levers and buttons to push while looking for ways out of your dilemma.  It's fun for me in 2D and is one of the reasons I'm even considering VR.  But if the selection is really as slim as you say then one wonders if this is another flash in the pan marketing deal like 3DTV was.

My impressions might be skewed as I don't like fighting games, and most games are fighting games. But overall the Quest and Rift stores are surprisingly small. Steam has a wider selection, but there are a lot of poorly made VR games there. I checked out Obduction, and it seems like it might be worth a shot. Wishlisted for now. Maybe it will be on sale tomorrow. Can't handle any more VR tonight.

I don't regret buying a Quest, but I was in a position where I could easily afford it and there was nothing else I really needed. If money was tight, it would not have been worth it for me. In some ways, it feels like the technology isn't quite "there yet." It's relatively low-def, you still sometimes need wires, nothing is standardized, and games are often rough around the edges- or just rough. But it's playable and worthwhile if you have the cash and time. I say time because I spend time with every new game just figuring out how to get the controls working. For some reason, VR developers do not clearly document this anywhere. You end up resorting to button mashing and forums diving. Even when they do make an attempt to tell you how to play the game, the instructions leave much to be desired. I don't think it's a flash in the pan, but it's still new and maturing.

My husband and I have been talking about going bowling together in VR with friends (some of whom live far away), and in a Covid world, that sounds really nice. But we have had trouble coordinating so far, so who knows if it will really happen.

..the last PC games I played somewhatregularly were the original Doom, Duke Nukem, and ,Civ III.  I tried Halo but never could get more than 20 meters from the  dropship before I was dropped. (never could get the hang of those hand held controllers and now with my arthritis I'd be lucky to get down the ramp).  Yeah too much "body count" and first person shooter stuff for me as well (Doom and Duke Nukem were at least over the top and silly in a way).  Oddly, never got into the Sims., but then that seemed sort of like real life, and why would I want to spend my lesiure time dealing with what I want to get away from.

I loved the old arcade games (Tempest, Defender, Breakout, Missile Command, Donkey Kong, the various racing game, etc- yeah, that really dates me)  One of the early home computer games for the C-64 and Atari that I liked was MULE which in a somewhat comical way simulated setting up a  a planetary colony,  You really be careful for if you took too much advantage of the other players, the colony could fail and eveyrone would lose.  Sad there aren't games like that anymore (that was an early one by ElectronicArts who now only produces sports related games).    I also like flight and driving sims, however to really get the full enjoyment and feel you need the specialised peripherals and three display set-ups which can get expensive (crikey to run the new MS flight sim you pretty much need a gigabit fibre optic connection and and a mini supercomputer with a couple 3090s).

Nah, I'd rather actually have something to show for the time I put in than just an arbitrary number of "levels" or ranking.

Complaint:  I've been looking for a place to get my COVID shot(s).  There's a nice website that points out where in our county they are being given and a form to fill out for appointments.  Unfortunately every time I visit the site it says "No Appointments Available".sad  Also, the place is on the shore of Great Lake Erie on the northwestern side of our squarish (with a corner lopped off) shaped county and I live at the southeastern corner and don't have a car for the 31 mile trip and there is no bus service.crying  The only sizable city in the county (Jamestown) is about 30,000 population and is only 12 miles away near the middle of the county.  Why can't they have COVID clinics in the city?  I can at least get to the city on a disease filled bus.indecision

I'm beginning to think I'd have better luck obtaining an Nvidia RTX-3080 for suggested retail price.frown

At least the county provides pickup service for the nearly-dead who qualify.  Unfortunately I'm not nearly-dead enough and don't qualify for free transport.  Although I guess in the big picture, that's a good thing.indecision

On the Commodore 64, my favorite game was Crossbow!  With the exception of the controller, it was just like the arcade game.  On the PC I like the games by Apogee.  I played a lot of the Duke Nuke'm, Crystal Caves, Monuments of Mars, and a game called Commander Keen.  Shareware.  Then they started to get all first-person-shooter, and I didn't bother with them anymore.

I can't really handle stress, and I get stressed out easily (I'm bipolar). For this reason, I mostly like romance and farming games. I also like puzzle games and speed games, provided they aren't too frustrating. I know it sounds silly: getting stressed out by a game. But overstimulation is a B****.  Even going to a party can leave me sleepless for days.

Daz is nice because it's usually calming and gives me a sense of accomplishment. But there are times when I get fixated on a particular goal, and am just unable to move past it. Right now I'm working on graphics for a visual novel I'm making, but the scene I'm trying to render just isn't coming out right. Right now, even loading up Daz feels overwhelming and depressing. I will probably have to go through and paint some textures by hand because there are no brushes in high enough resolution. And I'm awful at painting by hand. So I have to wait until I feel mentally ready to be frustrated, disappointed, and really, really focused. But it will get done eventually. Getting my fill of gaming and cleaning the house from top to bottom usually help me to feel ready, but first I have to get my fill of gaming.

Looks like I'm locked into Monk #2, though I'm pretty sure we won't be getting married this time around. This game is filled with jokes about secular stuff (like wanting unlimited rice) and lofty statements about the nature of reality. The art is nice too. I'm glad I got it.

March Madness has started, and I'm glad to see the PC+ stuff. I don't like buying $50 of stuff at a time, so I'll probably be sticking to those.

The math required for the bigger deals is also a little ridiculous. Makes me laugh.

...yeah still waiting for my group.  Oregon decided early on that teachers had a higher priority than seniors 65 - 70 even though schools are still not slated to reopen.  Meanwhile, across the Columbia River in neighbouring Vancouver WA (Portland's "bedroom community"), Washington State residents there in my age group have been eligible for the last six weeks.

Availability for my tier finally opens up today but now there's the issue of getting an appointment and hoping there's enough of a vaccine supply available.

Completely OT non-complaint:  I've been chasing a housefly for the last couple of days.  Very quick little bugger.  Despite having the flyswatter at hand at all times, his agility irked me to no end.  However, this morning I came down and looked forlornly in the kitchen sink at the dirty dishes I'd not bothered to wash yesterday and there in the crystal wine glass that had been set upright with hot water and a drop of detergent to soak, was my fly floating motionless just under the surface.  I let out a Snidley Whiplash call of evilness and exclaimed "got ya'".  Yay for physics and the surface tension destroying attributes of soap in water.devil

Hairspray.  Brings 'em down by gumming up the works.  Seriously.  Get the stickiest stuff you can, and set it to fine mist.  Keeping score is like horseshoes; close is good enough!

Rid-a-Bug works just as well, but then you have a cloud of pesticide drifting about your head.
