    I closed the background thread at least 50 times without any drawbacks or damages. By the way I do use the scrit to open several instances. This script also only works when the background thread has been closed.

    Use the script to create one or more additional DS instance shortcuts, so they are ready for use.

    Or launch DAZStudio and never use it; instead just run the script (attach it to the menus via a custom action) each time a new DAZStudio is required.  This has the additional advantage that UI settings can be changed in the "launcher" DAZStudio and will stick (after a relaunch of that DAZStudio).  Startup of the instances may be faster too, it certainly shouldn't be any slower.

    Can this be used to retrieve a file that would otherwise be lost when DAZ crashes? (I'm assuming not).

    No; it only allows you to use more than one instance of DAZ Studio at once *and* to change preferences in the (unused) launcher instance so that they stick.  Other ways of having multiple instances don't allow direct changing of the preferences because any changes get lost when the instance is closed and there is no "master" instance running (though you can just run DAZ Studio directly to change preferences).

    Recovering from a crash and retaining date is certainly possible; Microsoft Office started doing that around 2000, however DAZ Studio doesn't even do the basic think that Office did before the save-on-crash stuff.  Office would autosave to a temporary file on a very regular basis so that the actual data loss after a crash was only a couple of minutes work, if that.  Lots of programs do that.

    Sure, just map different content folders with the Content Directory Manager inside Daz Studio. Installing the content to separate content folders might be messy, though, unless you did manual install.

    Two of them.

    1) I'm still on DAZ 4.8 on my 2015 era pc (i5-6500, gtx 960 vram 4 gb, 16 gb ram) and i'm not sure if it uses same library/CMS stuff

    2) I'm planning to get an additional hdd, so would like to have new library there for Beta D|S, while keeping existing installations where they are.

    I always manual install when i can. Old habit since Poser days (same with Bryce laugh).

    Use DIM to install, and add the new content path: click the gear icon top right, select Advanced Settings. Select the Installation tab and click the plus button bottom left to add the new content path.

    You can then use the original content path for the current installation, and the new path for the Beta content.

    If you are still on 4.8 I think you might still be using the old Valentina database, although if you hadn't had a lot of older versions you might have started with PostgreSQL. Certainly the database (I can't recall if it was 4.8 or 4.9 that finally dropped Valentina support). Check task manager while DS is running, if you enable the Show Details then the PostgreSQL processes would appear below the list of visible applications, along with all the other background processes.

    Will follow, thank you.

    Also installed new DIM just now (wow, 64-bit!)  wink

    Oh, nice!

    It, indeed, says "postgreSQL server" in details on my 4.8

    I'm actually trying to use this fancy beta edition.

    Not a coder, don't get mad at me. I don't see what a list of plugins has to do with why it crashed. Wasn't using every plugin, was simply dialing in/out some newly made morphs on G8.1.

    You can have this for whatever it means:

    DAZStudio.exe caused ACCESS_VIOLATION in module "C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4 Public Build\QtCore4.dll" at 0033:000000005818E84B, QCoreApplicationPrivate::sendThroughApplicationEventFilters()+43 byte(s)

    RAX=000000000629E660  RBX=000000000000003D
    RCX=000000000658E900  RDX=00000000971CE860
    RSI=000000000658E900  RDI=00000000013FA940
    FLG=00010206          RBP=00000000971CE860

    It was a relatively long set of morphs I was setting up, of course, near the end just before the save you know, of course ... mutter, mutter, mutter ...

    ////////////////////////

    It will "not" keep the Scripts nor the Favorites listed on the top bar.
    Saving layout does not keep these either.

    Edit - UPDATE: DISREGARD... I had an old driver installed for another program and forgot to swap to the latest one, which worked just fine when I did update it.

    -------

    New user here. I only downloaded/installed DAZ 4 days ago and I am running WIN10 with a 3060 GPU. I can't get DAZ to use my GPU for rendering. The log below is when I have CPU fall back disabled. If I have it enabled, then it will give a CUDA Error Message 700.and use my CPU. I did my first renders tonight, using the free Studio 19 environment and one 8.1 model. It took an hour and 41 minutes for the first render and I felt that was wrong, so I started looking for solutions. I downloaded GPU-Z and that too showed my GPU wasn't being used. I've seen this error mentioned before, but last time I saw the solution was to turn off Optix (or something similar to that); however, that's not in this version. i would apprecaite any assistance you can give. Thank you.

  • Is this the version that's suppossed to work on Mac Big Sur?  Regardless, I can't install it because I installed Daz Central and it crashes on me every time I try and use it, so I uninstalled it.  And when I try and use DIM, it says it needs to be updated, but I can't find where to update it.  Any suggestions?

    No. Only DS5 will work with Big Sur.

  • my mouse cursor does the diappering act too. thought it was me falling asleep at the wheel.

  • Where do I report bugs with this beta version? I finally managed to get it working on Big Sur, but it crashes a lot and now it's refusing to save a file (I tried Save As, which worked once and not since). It tells me to see the log for details; when I try to do that, absolutely nothing happens (I mean I click on 'view log' and... nothing happens. As if I hadn't clicked on it).

    It's nice to have *some* kind of DS back but... um, saving a file is something I need to be able to do!

    So far as I know DAZ Productions doesn't have a public facing bug reporting system.  Instead you click on "HELP" (above), click on "Find Answers" (in the middle of the page), this opens a new window, then click on "Submit a Request" at the top rightish.

    Good luck with the new beta.  Not sure I'd describe a Beta release as "work[ing]"...

    Is there a direct download for 4.15.0.25 ?

    I have been told Central cannot install beta versions, for that you need DIM.

    Plus DIM is required and the above page doesn't seem to have a link to it:

    https://www.daz3d.com/install-manager-info

    I assume that will download the MacOS version on a Mac.  After an installation with DAZCentral DIM should just find the existing content, then the instructions on the beta page (together with the "purchase" of the beta) should be enough to install it.

    Since the 4.15.0.25 update I can't load some of my scenes, Daz takes infinite time to load when it tries to load some assets / files like "PHMEyelashescurl.dsf" and "bs_tearProjectionShape.dsf" (wich are related with Genesis 8 and Genesis 8.1 I think) and simply Daz doesn't respond when it tries to load these parts of the scene and it gets stuck (same if I try to load the items wich contains that assets in the scene like Gen8 Eyelashes or Gen8.1 Tears)

    I have no problems with the same scene in the previous 4.15.14 and public release version.

    (Sorry my bad english btw)
