    Screaming In The Rain
(apologies to Arthur Freed and Nacio Herb Brown)

    I'm screaming in the rain
    Just screaming in the rain
    What a horrible feelin'
    I'm p*ssed-off again
    I'm yelling at clouds
    So dark up above
    There's hate in my heart
    And no room for love
    Let the clouds disappear
    Just blow out of here
    Enough with the rain
I want the sky to be clear
    I run down the street
    Beat a hasty retreat
    Just screamin',
    Screamin' in the rain

...excellent. I need to adopt this as my theme song.

not really a complaint but I haven't seen this blue artifact on my renders before. The artifact appears randomly. In this render the artifact is on the back of Genesis' head.

Complaint: Ancient Greek Boats showed up in the product updates section of the DIM. Download failed! I managed to fix that problem by deleting the previous download. Then Install Failed! I looked at the log, deleted the file that it said it could not extract, and tried again. Install Failed! I looked at the log again...a different file could not extract.

Then I just opened the zip file and started putting stuff where it wanted to go. Then I noticed something. The path was wrong. It starts out with Content. Data, People, Runtime, and Vehicles are all under Content. But Data, People, Runtime, and Vehicles are all actually under DAZ3D Library. Under Content, there are folders for Data and People. So, we still have path confusion amongst our vendors. Do I put them under Content, or directly under DAZ3D Library? I think the latter. It's so screwed up, though. That's probably why the DIM indicates Install Failed! I've had problems like this before. When I contact them about it, rather than try to figure out why, the answer I get is "Just install them manually!" This took me all of five minutes to figure out. Not much effort, and customers would be happy.

The funny thing is, the files are under a subfolder named dazcontentqa. I'm guessing the qa stands for Quality Assurance. Fail!

    Dana

DAZ zips always put Poser and DS content in a folder named Content, to distinguish the files from plug-ins or the like. DIM knows not to include the Content folder. If you are saying that the folder in the zip is instead named dazcontentqa that would be an issue and should be reported.

That's caused by using Deep Shadow Maps. The best fix is to use Ray-traced shadows, but you may be able to avoid it by tweaking the camera angle or reducing the light intensities.

But the existing files are in the proper places...DAZ3D Library/Data... DAZ3D Library/People... etc. DAZ3D Library is what used to be the Content folder. And unfortunately, there are still items that create another Content folder under that. There is not a lot in there, but there is enough for it to prove there's an issue.

Secondly, yes things are being put into a folder named dazcontentqa.

So, KK, is it safe to let the DIM install the new version of DAZ|Studio? I noticed also the Dynamic Cloth Control showed up as an updated item, as well as the Look At My Hair player.

I wonder what other plug-ins are trashed with this update. These certainly can't be the only two.

Ok, that makes sense. The light sets that Art Collaborations cast deep shadow maps.

My new complaint is that I cannot buy Millie for teen Josie 6. The store gives me an error message about the payment. I wish I took a screenshot of the error message. Here is the screenshot of the check-out page. I'm going to log out and log back in.

edit: not trying to complain about the buggy store; the error is probably my fault because I didn't log in properly.

Those are the data files, so they aren't directly accessible inside the application. Specifically Jen Greenlees is in charge of Content QA for the Platinum Club, so when she converts those older Poser-format products to DS, the data files are put under dazcontentqa.

If you're actually seeing those folders inside DS (as will happen if you have a folder named "Content" inside "My Library", for example), then they won't work properly. If you're finding products that have nested content folders, please submit a tech support ticket to have them fixed. All the products I own have been fixed (Daedalus Peasant for Aiko 3 was the last one fixed, but it has 2 SKU's and the older one hasn't been removed yet, so make sure you install 5227 and not 3983).

And the structure in the zip for Ancient Greek Boats is correct -- the top-level folder named "Content" is just a placeholder for whatever your actual content folder is called, whether it's My Library, My DAZ 3D Library, Content, or whatever. If you install manually, you need to ignore the folder named "Content" and only install what's underneath that folder. That's what DIM does with those zips.

I've been using the DIM since I upgraded my computer to Windows 7 Pro. Everything had to be reinstalled anyway, so I thought I'd give it a chance. That's the only installing that's been going on except for a few where I got that Install Failed! message and I was told to install them manually. Some of them I haven't bothered with yet, they're still in the Install tab in the DIM with the Install Failed! message.

What about things like pwToon and pwGhost and various other things that always seemed to need a new version when DS was updated! Anyone?

...yes I installed it via the DIM and all my plugins show "green".

I do not have the full Dynamic Cloth Control plugin as I cannot afford it so I cannot advise on that.

One thing that bothers me is the main promo pic for the Amazing Skins or Belle 6 where she is in the Grecian Goddess skimpwear. Ummm....she's supposed to be a teenager, like under 18. She should at lest be in something more "modest" like a swimsuit or strap top and shorts.

Hi, I just discover this post. This image was not at all intended to shock people, and I'm really sorry it bothers you. My intention was to show a poetic figure, actually a young goddess of nature, surrounded by fairies. The choice of the ouftit for her corresponded to the story of the scene (the bottom was morphed in Zbrush to cover the figure more).
I have not thought it might bother someone because this was in my intention a kind of "Ode to innocence, nature, and poetry". In this situation, Belle was not really a figure any more, she became an "icon", the interest of using her, who is young, was to increase the feeling of innocence and purity to the overall scene. And not the contrary at all.
When I saw the final render, I found it really poetic, and not provocative at all, but this is my personal feeling about it. Now reading you I realize the intention I put in the scene may not be interpreted the same way for everybody. So your feedback is good to take, I'll take more care to whenever I should render young people again and I'm sorry about that. But believe me my intention was the exact contrary of provocation.

...apologies for the misunderstanding, The story I am working on involves two of the main characters who, while they may be "adult" in age (according to UK standards in 2060 and even today) they have the appearance of young teens (12 - 13) There is more behind this of course but it would take far more space than offered here to explain and it would spoil a major part of the story to discuss here. I have to walk very fine line in how they are portrayed including manner of dress for though in most of the story they are "legal" adults not only in the UK but most of the NEEC (the European economic community in 2060) they would appear to be underage especially here in the US.

Iz a difficult area for everyone to navigate :)

Is it morning yet? Actually I know it is midnight and I am setting an apple while typing this. Been hungry since I started to try to sleep at ten. Hopefully the Apple will help me go to sleep. Otherwise I am going to stay up for the rest of the night.

I guess I meant eating an apple not setting an apple. How does one set an apple?

I'll have to look for flutterby lights. DD and I already have a few flutterby ornaments on our eclectic tree. A professional decorator told me many years ago that my tree was trashy and I should have a theme. My response: Each and every ornament has a special meaning to me and there is no way it will change other than adding more ornaments each year. So there! Surprisingly, he and I are still good friends.

...If a professional decorator came to my place, he or she would probably call both a Goodwill and Salvation Army truck in. and I'd wind up sitting and sleeping on the floor as I couldn't afford any of their redecorating/furnishing suggestions.

    Decorating Tip #14527:
Bricks and planks stolen from construction sites make excellent shelves.

I prefer cinder blocks. They don't topple over as easily as bricks.
