Isn't it kind of sad that Daz has given up on the gallery tags working reliably and has people email entries instead?

I hope the SP people who couldn't attend the webinar can watch it some other way eventually.

Oh rats, missed it then - splendid!

It is kinda sad.sad But the same link that worked to access the webinar will remain usable for at least a week, they said.

Webinar over. That was a useful event, even if you're familiar with 3 point lighting as a concept.

Another tutorial rehash of 3 point lighting? That doesn't sound very special. I hope there was more to it than that, for what you paid for the SP to get special tutorial content.

"A recorded version of the webinar will be provided at a later date."

That's what the email says so I didn't bother trying to watch it live. And now this is what it says on Youtube:
    "
Welcome to the first Season Pass Live Webinar! The event is over, but you can watch the recording. As soon as YouTube is finished processing the stream, I'll add chapter points so you can easily navigate the two hours. Enjoy!"

Video is up though chapters are still not there but I don't mind, I will be watching all of it anyway.

It was useful in that there were practical applications with the current Daz, including uses for Filament windows, tools from 3d Universe (swapping to Base Mesh resolution for everything with a single button, which is especially impactful given that 8.1 figures tend to use higher SubD than Genesis 8 by default), a little bit of PhotoShop.

Did I NEED a tutorial for 3 point lighting? No. It was interesting to see how someone applies it in Daz, though. Everyone does their work differently, so seeing that, "Here is how I do it" was useful... not saying that I'll do it that way (I don't have the ability to crank out multiple Iray Viewports LOL), but it gave me things to think about.

(I think there were about 48-49 people at the peak of the webinar, and there were names you'd recognize in the audience chat as well.)

I wanted to see the entries for the contest... if they only post the winners, it will be hard to tell how many people participated or if there were a lot of good ideas, or if someone got robbed. Plus it just sucks the fun out of it. I asked earlier if it was ok to post an entry in the gallery after it was submitted, but I don't think anyone bothered to answer.

Yeah... that is my question as well. I should have asked during the Webinar.

People are putting Jacqueline renders into the #seasonpass category, but I don't think any of them are contest entries yet.

FYI, this is the end product of the webinar:

It is academy awards seasons, so I expect at least a few famous people to be in attendance! They probably own the entire store and probably get a discount!

(though to be honest I couldn't name a single film from last year soo, probably wouldn't know any of the names) surprise

IIRC to participate you have to upload it in the galleries and tag it, can't you just search for the contest tag? (I'm not familiar with how the gallery works, btw)

And yeah, like I said some posts ago, the webinar is about something only new people to this will find entirely helpful but even then I always like to watch them because they might have some good tips here and there, especially when they are made by esteemed people in the community like WP Guru. IMHO, it's probably the best choice they could make, it's a broad topic useful for newbies and might still be good for veterans. Much better than making something too specific or too advanced, at least for pleasing the most people possible.

edit: and yeah, watching the webinar I can see that in the chat there was at least one person claiming to be new to Daz smiley

For Jacqueline 8.1, the contest rules say that you need to EMAIL a .jpg to Daz.
    https://www.daz3d.com/official-contest-rules

Tagging it as #seasonpass isn't sufficient to actually make an entry to the contest.

It's also unclear whether or not you CAN post to the gallery without disqualifying the image as Daz only accepts "a new static render not previously posted or shared". (What does that mean? If I share the image to the gallery before the end of the submission period, does that mean it's not a valid entry?)

They are doing things differently this time. Maybe because they had issues with the tag in the gallery last time. (Also, there's no ability to just search for a tag as far as I know. You have to come across an image that has that tag and then click on the tag there, which will bring up the related images. This is not hard to do with new contests, but with other tags, it can be a real pain. I wish they would change it to make tags searchable.)

    https://www.daz3d.com/official-contest-rules :

    "Official Contest Rules

    1. Use the Daz character Jacqueline 8.1 to create a new static render not previously posted or shared that relates to the theme of a “freedom-loving young woman exploring the world and her inner spirit” — showcasing inner exploration and self-awareness.
    2. E-mail your submission to “[email protected]” in .jpg format.
    3. Only submissions by Season Pass holders qualify for prizes.
    4. One submission per individual is permitted. Daz employees and friends or family of Daz employees are not eligible."

Oh, ok. I only skimmed over the rules for Brooke since I'm not interested in the contest and assumed it was the same for every SP contest.

And yeah, to me it doesn't sound like it's safe to share.... which sucks. I guess if tags aren't really searchable that's probably why it has to be via email, but it would be nice if you could still upload it after sending the email which would create a timestamp to show it wasn't shared before submission.

Strangely, people were going to submit their entries to the Brooke contest, and the new entry (Let's call this entry A) would remove the tag from the last entry submitted (let's call this entry B). Then someone would resubmit entry B to fix the now missing tag, and that would remove the tag from entry A. And so on. In the end, people were told to just email their entries. I don't know anything about web pages, but it sounds like a weird glitch.

Well, yeah, but it's eeeeverything, not just the ones meant as contest submissions.

And yep, the gallery change was relatively recent so I'd assume there is still some ironing to do.

I too really enjoyed the webinar.  I thought it was well presented and showed a nice simple way of setting up one classic lighting setting.  Based on that, it would be fairly easy to expand that out to other classic lighting setups. I found his tips on using filament really helpful.

  • So, I'm watching the webinar recording and they mention the thing about the contest submission being via email, but Jay also said that you can upload it to the galleries it just won't count as submission. That was several minutes ago and so far I haven't read any mod saying otherwise.

    Definitely.

Just the fact that there is a separate Filament Draw Options Node was incredibly useful to see, not to mention his preferred Filament node options (although I'm sure we'll all tweak those numbers for our own setups).

I mean... now I kind of understand WHY there's a separate Environment Node when you're also using the Filament Draw Options Node. I used to edit the Environment Node to make it work with Filament, and then change it back to re-render in Iray as a separate pass/layer.

Now that I know that I can modify the Filament Node and leave the Iray Environment Node settings alone?
That's a huge benefit. And then manipulating things in the Filament viewport (as separate from any other viewport, such as an Iray viewport)... that's useful as well.

Nothing to do with 3-point lighting, but from a workflow perspective, it was good stuff. It was useful seeing how he used Daz, and not just the 3-point lighting theoretical setup.

Hopefully we can share this information more generally because it really was useful to see.

Can't wait to watch the webinar. The one day in an entire year I go out of town and it's today LOL. At least I can watch it later.

yes. I've never discussed how to improve my filament renders and I don't spend TONS of time playing around. So most of the info was useful and really easy to blend into my current workflow.  I do love that he uses the HDRI for the fill like I do. I love using HDRIs in my renders.

So the next SP member freebie is "Warrior Goblin Poses"? Really? So we need to buy an goblin to use this? That's ridiculous! I'm really disappointed... sad

But he is already released here... so I wonder. And the poses are not in my library yet.

Yeah, that was unexpected. I mean, afaik it was supposed to be 2 free items to begin with, but then something sooo.... specific.... I'd like to think that they at least did it because they noticed most SP owners had the figure and not the poses but eh...normally I would already own or have in my wishlist that kind of figure but precisely  that one I didn't like. The figure overall looks awesome but I just didn't like the face at all. Looked as if a crazy old man got turned into a goblin or something. So yes, first SP item I will most likely never, ever use. On the other hand, it seems to be something completely extra to what was offered so, eh... I don't mind.

Oh! I didn't know that. I got the orange banner mentioning the poses, but there is still nothing in my product library or DIM.

Same here. No poses in the Library. Also I can not find that product in the store.

So, orange banner on sunday - nothing in library - maybe new kind of "glitch"?

  • Well, so far with the SP stuff it always takes a bit more to appear in the library after the banner. And yeah, I figured the poses were part of the bundle that was released with the War Goblin HD but it wasn't, so I assume it's something that will be released soon (hence why you can't find it in the store now)
