Does anyone know if this works with the new version of Reality?
http://www.daz3d.com/shop/skies-of-economy
It seems that traditional skydomes are generally completely incompatible, while the above was apparently designed with Reality in mind.
(EDIT)
now if I can only find a metallic item on a surface, without post-work.
Disregard found the problem DIM double stacked my Daz directory when it installed 4.7
OK bought and installed both Poser and DS versions
Poser version works fine
DS version is not available in DS 4.7 and neither is the previous already installed version of Reality neither one shows up in about plugins
Older version was working before Studio upgrade to 4.7
Have reinstalled Reality 4 3 times
Can run Reality 4 for DS from it's directory has message not connected
...purchased the upgrade though Daz. Store went all wonky on me, changing the price by 10$ between the cart and Check Out pages Got that settled after having to go back & forth a couple times.
After downloading, noticed it is .zip instead of .exe installer. Now I have little difficulty with manually installing content zips, however, when it comes to plugins, I'm totally lost as I'm a bit worried I may put something in the wrong place.

No, it works with 4.7. I have used it. Go check the other tabs. I noticed that on some tab windows it wouldn't show up as a render option, but does on others. Here's a postworiked render, but I have a couple of others I did that weren't postworked on the other computer. I'll go get them. I prefer working in DS to Poser, and I always do my rendering in Lux via Reality.
...haven't installed 4 yet. Just opened Daz 4.7 and Reality 2.5 shows in the "about plugins" window. UI opens up and I can change settings with no issue.
OK, here is an image I rendered with Reality 4 in Daz Studio 4.7. It has NOT been postworked.
You'll notice the gun, which is a custom metal that uses the original gun map, with polish set to 9900. I really like custom metals in Reality; they look fabulous.
A couple of things to be aware of: You must set the cornea material to glass, or you will get black or white eye; the glossy cornea hides everything under it. Tick the hide box next to eye reflection, since you don't need it, and it will hide the true reflections in the eye. Next, check for any Yes ticks under the LEM setting. That stands for Light Emitting Materials, and a lot of Poser and Daz materials emit light, including skin and other things you wouldn't think would be emitters, do emit light. Basically, select all and go into the modifyer tab, look for LEM box, and make sure it's clicked off. Unless you actually want a candle flame or something to glow, in which case set it to emit.
Again if you have installed Reality, check under all the tabs. I've used Reality, so it's currently visible in all the tabs, so I can't tell you which one it didn't show up in. Maybe it needed to be refreshed or something.
Inside the ZIP file is an EXE installer as well, just run it from the ZIP, I did that and it installed perfectly.
A quick word about lighting:
HDRI maps are invaluable in Luxrender. Here are some freebies:
http://hdrmaps.com/freebies
http://www.hdrlabs.com/sibl/archive.html
This last one is really good

I used the one called Tall Hall to do the guy with the gun, adding in a curved surface I had from Poser set to emit light. Then I experimented with the light settings until I got the look I wanted. The skin is Bjorn, BTW. You set the light object up in Daz Studio, then call Reality, tick the IBL tick, find wherever you put the HDRI lights, then set the curved object to emit light.
One of the advantages to HDRI is that you don't need any other light unless you really want to add them. You can adjust the lights inside Lux, where the settings and light intensities can be adjusted the way you would with a camera. The rendering is NOT fast, please be aware. Though you will see the image immediately, it looks very grainy until you reach 2000 samples per square inch. I usually create a render and let it go overnight while I'm asleep. By the time I get up, it's done. But it's not going to be a 25-minute Daz Studio render unless it's a small relatively uncomplicated render with very few lights. You may also want to render your key light and your ambient separately and assemble them in Photoshop by stacking the images and setting them to screen. That can speed it up tremendously. (Thanks to Val Cameron who taught me that trick in his Dreamlight classes.)
A quick try of Reality4 for DAZ Studio...
...giving the procedural shaders a look - the ground and walls were simply DS primitives with Reality/Lux shaders applied to them. Most car parts have shaders applied too. Hopefully there's a way to scale down the patterned shaders a bit to suit scenes better - I never noticed if that's possible in my rush to get render started and have dinner.
You can also make your own HDRI files with Bryce's sky lab. Much cheaper option than buying expensive packages.
EDIT TO ADD:
The Cree LED Lighting website is also invaluable for free IES Configuration files. Very useful for realistic lighting effects.
Thank you for your product and your online support. The user support for your product makes Reality one of the most valuable products in all of poser. I was very interested in purchasing octane bridge, but the lack of online support/videos scared me away.
I feel comfortable downloading and installing, and even if I mess up you make me feel like I have a safety net to help me with installation/usage issues. Again, thank you for adding so much value to the dazstudio product.
Zarc - If you still interested in seeing non-postworked skin renders in reality/lux, you can look at my profile on renderosity under the name renmmk.
thank you for the true Lux render. I've been tearing the net apart looking for an example of what lux can do without fixing it's shortcomings with post-work. this is far more useful then you may think of it being a horrible render.(EDIT)
now if I can only find a metallic item on a surface, without post-work.
The installer application for Mac OS X 64 crashes on launch on OS X 10.7 (which the installer's config file says should work). The Reality application in the Assets zip does launch successfully, however.
Are there instructions for manually installing the pieces? I can pretty much figure out where everything goes except the contents of the ACSEL folder.
Addendum: installer works on my Yosemite Macbook Pro (though the reality application did not get put in /Applications as expected). However, I cannot register at all. The Serial Number field in the Registration panel seems to want some character that I cannot guess at. Alphanumerics do not work. Similar to typing an alphabetic in the Order Number field.
This is getting to be a very frustrating experience!!
Damsel eye reflections? are you refering to multiple surfaces on the eye reflecting causing to much reflection, or are you completely replacing the reflections with maps? a pinch of n00b confusion on my end.
fantastic looking car Jabba101. Shaders and tiling settings in the Daz Studio Surface tab to Reality/Lux? I thought Reality translated that stuff by default, or is it different for the different surface shaders (Omni, AoA, DazDefault, etc).
I was looking for the light source bouncing off the nose and eyebrow ridge onto other surfaces. Just as I'm interested in true reflections for some work. Daz Studio, 3Delight render attached. Every single render at that sight that would show similar, is either cropped to hide the reflected light, or photoshoped. Akin from my view to 'fudging the data' to get the results claimed in the theory.Another Reality render
Yeah. The animation controls are sadly lacking. There is no way to set the number of frames to render and Reality isn't properly naming the files it generates, leaving file names with hashtags. I was hoping for increased control over the animation process, such as being able to slow down the rate at which Reality grabs the mesh from Daz Studio to give clothing more time to adjust/autofit.
99% of what I do is animation ( http://www.youtube.com/user/espict ) so Reality 4 is of no use to me until the animation functions are fixed.
Fortunately, Reality 2.5 still seems to work.
I did make a really nice animation in Reality 2.5 the other day. I modeled this logo out in Hexagon, animated in Daz, and set the materials in Reality 2.5. I was happy with how it came out. http://youtu.be/Bz1R14ZM1BE
Thanks WayOfTheSword, that light bouncing off the logo onto the floor was the one thing I wanted to see. Was that put there in post-processing, or was it actually done by Lux calculating light-paths?
pete.c44, very nice render. The light on the bottom of the chin is very realistic looking. A rather difficult thing to achieve with 3delight. Same Q, was that straight render, or was there Post-processing done?
That was all Luxrender's doing. The only thing I did when I composited the video was to add in some blurring to the logo as it fell.
HI Pret-a-3D. I just purchased Reality 4 for DS and have encountered a problem.
After installing Reality 4 then DS 4.7 begins to run slower.
Loading Figure/Hair/Prop is slower.
Modifying Surface values is slower.
Applying Pose (Mat) texture is very slow.
No conflict error messages appear.
Reality 4 render works ok.
Reality 4 did not come with an uninstaller!!!!!.
I had to fully erase Daz Studio completely (not just uninstall it).
Reloaded Daz Studio 4.7 (without Reality 4) and DS runs smoothly again.
Now i have massive headache to install all my other plugins (except Reality 4).
Please fix Reality 4 so it does not slow the above actions noted!!
Please note I have put in a Daz help desk Ticket #181490.
WayOfTheSword, thanks. I'm going to step aside, as I'm not seeing answers to some of the past few pages of teething pains, in the old two-dot-five manual. Thank you, and I'll be on-board in a few days, it's not payday for me yet.
Inside the ZIP file is an EXE installer as well, just run it from the ZIP, I did that and it installed perfectly.
..thank you. Wasn't sure as Daz tends to do everything with .zip files for the DIM these days.
...the trouble I have with HDRI is I don't get good cast shadows like one would see on a sunny day so I use the Reality "Sun". The only issue is if I need a sky background I'm kind of out of luck unless I use a photo backdrop parented to a plane primitive. Skydomes don't work as Lux treats them like a solid object (there is no "Cast Shadows - Off" option like thee is for 3DL).
if the new buyers get discount 40% why not the upgraders ?
Upgraders do get a further discount since they get it for 19.95 and new users for 29.97.
I am not seeing the Upgrade price here, I assume that is because I bought it at Rendo - is there a way to get the upgrade price here? If not I think I'll buy it on The Pred-A-3D website.

I got the upgrade price here once I went to the checkout, it must look my previous order history, and apply the discount, so obviously it can't do that if you bought it at another store. You would need to either ask Paolo or DAZ 3D Support for an answer.
On the eye reflection--I was referring to Genesisi 2 figures, which have a mat for eye reflection. If you set that to glass, you get the mat floating on the glass like a stain glass window. I tick it to hidden because I don't care for the effect.
With HDRI lights, if you want a spec or a shadow, add a mesh light to shine in the location you want. Lights in Reality/lux are easy to work with because they work like real world lights. You want a shadow on the floor, you put a light on the ceiling. You want shadows to play up the musculature, you put a light on the left or right. Generally I find that two lights, a HDRI and a mesh light are all I need.
A mesh light is an mesh that emits light. It can be a candle flame, a magic globe of symbols with a trans map to make it transparent in places, the glowing strip on a robot. Anything can be an emitter in Reality/lux.
Reality 4 is also on sale at upgrade price at Renderosity and Preta3d.
Paolo gives fabulous support. I bought Reality 1 through this one. Anytime I have ever had a problem, I email Paolo and he patiently answers all my questions, even dumb ones. When something doesn't work somewhere in all the thousands of lines of code in Reality, he hunts it down obsessively and fixes it. I have huge respect and admiration for his obsessive devotion to his product and his customers. Plus, you get an Octane quality renerer for $20 or $40. Luxrender is FREE. Octane is $800. Come ON.
Yeah, there is a learning curve on the program. It's nowhere near the PTA that Poser's or Daz's is. Once you play around with it a while, it makes perfect sense, and you just go.
About HDRI and the background--you can set the background to transparent by ticking the transparent box on the first tab of the Reality screen. Gives you an alpha mat. That's why the background on my gun guy is white (on a previous page here). It was originally transparent, but someone wanted it without post work, so I collapsed the PNG to post it as a JPEG..
I knew someone would say something like that
now I try to explain
new buyers get a free discount 40% without doing nothing
upgraders did already buy the prog and get their discount from this action
upgraders do not get a free discount about 40%
