Actually no, 3Delight with the texture Darius came with, just with the velvet turned off. If it was Iray, knowing my luck, I'd still be rendering it!

Ok, that's pretty cool, though with that time I'm guessing you've got an NVidia GPU.

Thanks, Rogerbee. Yes, I have Nvidia GTX670 graphic card with 2GB VRAM.
When I assembled my computer a couple of years ago, it seemed to be a decent one.
But Nvidia cards are getting old pretty soon; good that they still perform quite well.

The main reason I got an AMD was price and it had OpenCL which was what I wanted for Lux. The next incarnation of Blender will also use OpenCL, though how much I use it will depend on how I get on with it. Am I right in thinking that Nvidia cards don't have OpenCL support and have CUDA instead!? If there was a graphics card that had both then I'd possibly consider it.

..as I mentioned in another thread, Nvidia does have OpenCL support My old GTX 460 supports OpenCL 1.1 Just doesn't have enough VRAM to handle full GPU rendering

The nice part with IRay is if the scene cannot be loaded into the GPU memory Instead of crashing it defaults to the CPU.

It does both, hmm, oh well, maybe something to consider in the future then. If I were to do a complete upgrade maybe.......have to get a job first though!

..Iray CPU rendering is faster than Lux CPU Rendering

  • RogerbeeRogerbee Posts: 4,460

That's as maybe, but, Lux with OpenCL will utilise my GPU, Iray won't.

From what I tried quickly just rendering a character no adjustments is much faster on the new laptop then the beast. I guess cause the laptop has the 4G nvidia card. I had to go back to 4.7 due to a glitch that was a deal breaker. When I got close up to a small woman in a big hand the whole scene in the viewport went all dark as if one had a distant light pointing in the wrong direction. Turning off the preview lights made no difference.

Ouch! What happened? Perhaps you should post in the 4.8 thread and file a support ticket while you're at it. I'm loving 4.8 right now.

Cool, attach that screenshot to the bug report. Am I right in thinking that if your GPU supports OpenCL that Lux will use the GPU for renders?

GPU renders have never worked well with reality lux> was going to play with iray if no one else is getting this bug means that it may be something with the laptop's configuration will know for sure when I check the beast later...

It's all thanks to Mustakettu and her RT Kit shader set. I'm using the Alpha and it should be released as a freebie soon.

Wow, Rogerbee, that render is really great. I have not figured out the 3Delight settings, like you did.

...have you tried the Colour and Vignette cameras? They didn't work in 4.7 or the beta releases.

Just tested and it does not seem to be working. I will try reinstalling tomorrow and see if that helps.

Actually, all of the settings were done by Kettu, I just changed the textures. She set everything up in Shader Builder. RT Kit is so much easier to deal with than say US2. The full package should contain more MAT presets too. I'll be sure to let you know when it's released.

As far as I know, I think you do have to reinstall AoA products from build to build of DS. I'm pretty certain I had to reinstall the lights when I went from 4.6 to 4.7. I don't use them much, if at all now, so I haven't bothered yet in 4.8.

Ok, thanks. I will be waiting for the Kettu full package, then.
