My feet hurt but this bus stop doesn't have anywhere to sit.  Good news my last bus of the day should arrive in maybe 13  To 18 s minutes

Bad news sort of the "free" Wi-Fi probably will end right before the bus comes.  Also my phone battery is extremely low and I have nothing with me to help it!   But at least my iPad's battery is okay.

    ....buses.

I feel spoiled here in Portland.  There are three street tram lines that stop less than a block from my place. Our bus and commuter tram system is one of the best in the nation. There are routes here that have a 15 min frequency on Sundays and holidays. Don't think I could ever live where the single bus line I would take is an hour apart between buses.  In September one of the routes here which doesn't run on weekends will operate 7 days a week. We will also have a new limited stop express line (with those big "bendy" buses) start service through the neighbourhood in Southeast Portland where I used to live and still go to on occasion.

The city is also evaluating a fleet of all electric rechargeable buses which it looks to move to in the coming years and even tested them on a route that has with a 6% grade (I used to ride this route to work and it took at least 5 min to make it to the top on a diesel bus as the automatic transmission could never seem find the right gear to settle into).

My old hometown of Milwaukee WI used to have a great transit system up until about a decade ago.  After the recession (and a few other of what  I'll say for now were "mitigating" issues), it was pretty much gutted to the point of almost being useless.  When I was growing up there in the 50s and 60s they used to have a short line route through my neighbourhood (which I rode to school) that ran 20 min apart every day of the week and 10 min apart during the weekday commute time.  There was also another even more frequent service route that was a few blocks walk away (though one had to deal with the possibility of waiting for a freight train to get to/from the stop). That route also turned into a limited stop route between the near  south side and downtown (only dropping people off going northbound and only picking passengers up southbound from/to that point).  Today, the route that follows part the old short line mentioned earlier, has been expanded to the south county line and now runs at best 40 - 45 min apart and an hour apart on Sundays. This is in the inner area of the city as well, not way out in the "sticks".

So yeah, here in Portland I really do feel spoiled, particularly as I can ride all day on buses street trams, LRT trams, and even the West Side commuter rail line, for only 2.50$ (senior fare).  Part of what makes it difficult to consider moving somewhere else which may not have as great a system, to escape the high rents, but then the latter seems to be happening everywhere these days unless you live in a rural area where a car is a necessity.

I am home and resting some.  I am also trying to pop some popcorn on the stove top.

Non-complaint:  Update on the accident outside my house a day or so ago.  I walked to the grocery store this morning and went past the accident scene.  Lots of vehicle part chaff, nothing big, but I also noticed that the "thump" that I heard was not the crash of vehicles, but it's apparently the noise made when a vehicle whams into a telephone pole.surprise  There was a brand new pole in the ground next to a still standing, but very unhappy, old one.  Broken nearly in half it was.  It currently has a metal band-aid trying to hold it together enough that it doesn't fall across the road.  I hope they remove it sometime soon.indecision

Complaint:  Now that it's summer again, several weeks ago I was looking for an ice cream treat in the grocery store.  While I was scanning the freezer, a worker came by and I asked her if they had any Klondike "Double Chocolate" bars.  (Mmmm... chocolate!)  It's just exactly the right thing for me.  Expensive enough that I don't buy a lot of it, big enough that one can be easily cut in two pieces to accomodate my diet, and doesn't upset my stomach like many of the other Klondike products do (vanilla ice cream doesn't digest well in me, it just turns into a foamy sludge, turns brown, and sprays out the closest hole).crying  She said no, but she'd order some.  A few days later I saw my prize in the cooler.  Wheee... edible ice cream!yes  Four boxes of them(6 in a box).  I bought two boxes.  (Mmmm... chocolate)  The next time I was at the store, I bought the other two boxes.devil  But the last two times I've gone to the store, the Double Chocolate Klondikes were still gone.  Only the exact same number of the other half-dozen weird flavors (anything other than Double Chocolate is weird)cheeky were still in the cooler.  Apparently nobody in this town but me shells out the money for a Klondike bar.surprise  And I refuse to be tempted to buy a flavor that will undoubtedly end in another spraying incident.  So, I suspect that those old unwanted Klondike bars will sit there till the moon evaporates.  I point out yet again, that they need to order "Double Chocolate" if they want to sell any.

I go through this every summer.  Back when I still had a car, I'd have to make a multiple town journey to check all the groceries in the area for one that carried Klondike "Double Chocolate" bars.  Now I don't have a car, and ordering ice cream through Amazon has its problems.sad

The older one gets, the time between weekends gets shorter all the time.

Remember, how long the days and weeks were when you were a teenager?...

...and when you're retired, weekdays blur into weekends and back into weekdays. Sometimes I need to actually look at the calendar to see what day it is and then realise I'm looking at a colander on top of the fridge in the kitchen  .

I ordered my package from Ebay.  I have the tracking number.  Maybe I should contact the U.S. postal service to notify them of the 15 day delay.

Yeah, check the PO.  Also, doesn't Ebay have some way to check or kick the process or compensate, or at least report the loss?

My parents always had a clock over the refrigerator.  Now my brother owns the house and despite the refrigerator being in the same area, the clock hasn't been there for 30 years, yet when I'm there I still glance above the refrigerator to see the space on the wall where the clock used to be.frown  What time is it?  Oh, it's two fly-specks past the stain.indecision

I ordered something from Wish.  There hasn't been an update since July 6th, so I don't know where it is.

I am not sure if I'm getting old yet as I can't remember when getting old starts.  I first thought I have the fear of getting old, but more I thought about it, I wouldn't mind being an immortal stuck at this age.  My fear is breaking down physically. Especially when the bladder starts acting like a sieve (from what I understand from a lot of ads I have seen).  I also am not ready to get that device from the "I fell and can't get up" ads.

Basically I don't want to be that fragile to the point everyone seems to be worried about my health.

Quitter... Some of us choose to remain steadfast in our convictions and lifestyle choices... "Never give up, never surrender!"

Just like that Rod Stewart song "Forever Dumb"...

News website headline from earlier today:

"US tourist survives fall into Mount Vesuvius after reaching for phone"

Implied meaning of headline: "While struggling to wrest control of their phone from Gollum, an American tourist on their way to destroy The One Ring was saved from certain melting when the elastic of their boxer shorts snagged an outcropping inches from the magma."

What actually happened: Some dumbass hiking in the inactive portion of the crater on a trail that was clearly marked as forbidden dropped their phone and tumbled down onto the trail below.

I knew that was probably what happened (I visited Vesuvius as a kid), but I was still kind of disappointed nobody was dangling over bubbling lava until authorities fished them out.

You know that dope is going to tell all their friends they fell into a volcano when all they did was roll down a very gritty hill.

...a few years ago I read where some idiot tourist, who I believe was in als in Italy at the time, wanted to take selfie with a priceless old statue. He slipped off balance and knocked the statue over destroying it.

    Stupidity knows no bounds.
