I suppose you've heard of Fordite?

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fordite

Congratulations, you've discovered a Hamalith!... These are fossilized ham or pork products formed under the intense pressure of layers of dust and high heat usually associated with conditions found under stoves and refrigerators.

Thats pretty cool, I never heard of that, but it's very interesting... at one of the places I worked at, we used to use huge caulking cartridges to injection mold resin parts in RTV rubber molds... for big parts, the resins used to have to be mixed in big buckets using static mixer impellers on a big drill press... there were usually several buckets that we'd allow the resin from the impeller to drip into and since we'd color the resin there would be many colorful layers that would build up, sort of like that "Fordite". especially when we were doing prototypes for toy companies.
Eventually you'd end up with a disc the diameter of a 5 Gallon bucket and about two inches thick.
At some point I sliced a few up into eighth inch thick strips which I sanded and clear coated... they sat around hanging from a shelf for a couple of years with all the other weird stuff that resulted from the various weird projects I worked on, but I never did anything with them, but I thought they could have made cool or psychedelic looking jewelry... especially the sections where multiple colors were dripped into each other before they hardened.

Downloaded the experimental version of Octane 2022;  since really wanting to give the new features a try without needing to wait for the Stable release.  Some seem to be more under the hood or things I don't understand like the difference between HDR-sRGB colorspace and OCIO colorspace at rendertime, but it was the Photon Tracing was what I really wanted to look at.

From some preliminary tests with a thumbnail scene I was working on earlier, it does look like it cleans up the fireflies at a better threshold than Pathtracing and PMC do but I also noticed more internal shadows going on with the material. Maybe it's kind of like jumping from Direct Lighting to Pathtracing - you get more realistic results and so the less translucent'y look that Photon Tracing is providing is the more physically correct version.

I was trying to recreate the Iray  "Plexiglass" shader for the R.A.P.T.O.R.  figure with Octane  :>

I did this so called quick render.  Basically the quick part was everything up to the point when I pressed the render button.  Does anyone know which dragon I used?

edit:  I was wondering if I have or there is free spines for the back of this dragon.

Is that the first one, Millennium Dragon?

Wow, the new US Cavalry outfit is a bit of a disappointment.  The whole flap front of the shirt is just painted on!  Might as well be a tee shirt!  I guess it looks more like a polo shirt.

And there's a belt, but it's just a decoration...there are no belt loops on the pants!

Started watching a movie called Luck, but stopped for the night.  I think I only saw the first half hour or so.  It is about an unlucky gal who just got aged out of a foster home type place.  She really wants her young friend there to have a forever home.  If I was writing it, I would have Sam adopt the little girl, but I don't know how the movie ends.

Dragon 2.0 had a lot going for it,  I still quite like the critter :)

I think I figured something out by thinking of that Luck movie.  My hunch is that it will be found out bad luck can be a start of good luck.  If I didn't get evicted from a Richmond apartment, I wouldn't have moved to Raleigh.  If I didn't have bad luck at that first home, I would not have gone to the second home.  Bad luck in a way got me to an activity center where I met my current boyfriend.

also so-called bad luck got me out of the group home system, but I'm lucky not to be in one anymore.

Had some fun painting that R.A.P.T.O.R  figure,  Had a few hiccups along the way but overall it was great fun and I'm rather happy with the end result :>

Yes~   I noticed though that some of the leg components have some issues when the leg's moved, will either need to just adust every time its moved (May be a pain if/when its animated) or try and find some more automated solution (Aim Constraints?)   but  its such a nice metal monster ! <3

I think I know the real reason drinking a lot of soda before bed is a bad idea.  Or a very important thing.  It isn't the caffeine necessarily, but can happen with water or any beverage.  The issue is too much fluid before bed can cause either interrupted sleep or a reason to do laundry in the morning.

I saw a YouTube video that said that caffeine doesn't necessarily keep one up.  I think it is more the bladder.

Once upon a time, there was a little boy sleeping and having a nice dream of going to the toilet... Waking up, realizing it wasn't the toilet where he did the deed...

Was that the Christmas story where the kid sleep-climbed up onto the roof and dreaming the chimney was a toilet, pooped on Santa while he coming down it?

I get my fairy tales and cautionary tales confused... plus to make it worse, as a child, I grew up with old fashioned German fairy tales which are less fairy tale than gothic horror... like half the tales end up with children being maimed, eaten or ground into sausage by monsters, imps or serial killing old ladies with a chip on their shoulder.

"... and because little Albert didn't eat all his spätzles, the witch crept in through his open window and poked both his eyes out with a scissor before stuffing him into the big sausage grinder at the sausage mill... And the next day everyone in town had a little bit of Albert with their morning breakfast... The End...  Good night my dear!"

Ever since DAZ started using all natural organic ingredients in their cookies, their shelf life decreased and they decompose quicker... Naa, I'm kidding, the forum software sucks donkey butt.

    Complaint: Paper straws suck.

Which leads me to a question for people at least ten years older than me...

When I was real little, I remember paper straws still being a thing... but weren't they wax coated or something?

I don't remember them immediately melting in whatever liquid they were immersed in like these crappy 21st century straws do.

I just tried to use the paper straw included with a juice box sized ice tea and one, it couldn't penetrate the foil straw hole seal... and two, it immediately became flaccid and soggy once it contacted the ice tea...

That last part sounds like bad porn, but seriously, weren't paper straws back in the 60s and early 70s more durable?... these things are useless... My daughter gets Starbucks Matcha Green Tea Frappuccinos and they give paper straws with it.. she ends up keeping a steel or plastic straw in the car because they are so useless...

I get that they are better for the environment, because they decompose quickly, but maybe not immediately in the middle of you using them... that would be nice.

That tale may have resulted in just as pleasent dreams as our fourth grade teacher did as he told us, WHEN the atomic power plant that was being built some 30 miles from us explodes, we will all be burned alive...
The same teacher also told us that the next ice age is just around the corner...

So, at least he gave us 10 year olds the choice, burn or freeze to death, take your pick... cheeky

Some say the world will end in fire,

    2Some say in ice.

3From what I’ve tasted of desire

4I hold with those who favor fire.

5But if it had to perish twice,

6I think I know enough of hate

7To say that for destruction ice

    8Is also great

    9And would suffice.

Yes but hopefully to a better place.  I didn't really mesh with the current place or the company that runs it.  I am hoping and praying it will be a more independent living with out the all or nothing thinking.  Basically follow all the rules with no exception or leave.  Also the rules deal with all or nothing thinking.  Don't do X at all or you will be kicked out of the program.

Diane (my wife) gets these biodegradeable straws.  I can ask her where and what the brand is, if you're interetested. I thought they were just plastic, until she told me.

I am thinking of making up a pandemic for my story that has difficulty being solved because a lot of people don't care.  They don't do any preventative stuff that is good for them.  They scoff at the people who actually care and do all the protection that is recommended.  It is because of the scoffers the pandemic seems to last forever.

I am thinking of doing a render sort of based on this idea.

I did find an image, but it is a virus?
