Hello everyone. I am going to break my silence and dive into this shark infested pond because something very weird happened on my weekend. My weekend is different than normal people's. Off Tuesday and Wednesday. I was doing a character render on DS. Offline because I don't have internet at the house. Only internet I use is either at Dad's house (secured) or at work (unsecured). Got a song stuck in my head now. "So Weird" by Risk (German metal band). What happened might (or might not) stump the Knower of All, the Wise Wizard of The Word, The Grand Pubah of The Paragraph, the DAZ Times #1 bestselling author, aka McGyver. This character I loaded up has the ability to freeze cursors. She even has the ability to stop time. Ok I put together simple picture. Nothing extravagant. Hit render button. Came back several hours later to check on the render. It was finished BUT I noticed I could not move the curser to type a name in the box. Mouse did not work. Pad did not work. Strange. And I'm offline the whole time. Then I noticed the computers clock had stopped 40 minutes behind what the actual time was. So the clock had stopped. Very strange indeed. Only thing that worked was the power button. Powered down. Start back up. Started up just perfectly fine. Opened DAZ back up. No problems there. Loaded a different character up, hit render button, picture came out fine. Everything worked. Clock even worked. Except the time was still 40 minutes behind. I'm at lunch break at work. 2:30 a.m. MST. Got the clock fixed. Just a weird experience. Had to come here and blab about it. If The Old Scrooge has to edit this, that's fine. Anybody else have anything weird or strange happen to them while using DS? My silence has been broken. My lunch has gone cold.

Bar the time I'd have said it was just a freeze - video or the whole system - which might happen if something about the scene (presumably the character) stressed the system. However, the time would not usually freeze then - assuming it was correct before, being offline the system has no chnace to synchronise and the internal clock have, in the past, not been tremendously accurate.

Complaint: The official temperature around here today is 6F (-14.4C) 5F (-15C and falling) and there is more than 4 inches of week old snow on the ground.  Yay, it's finally almost normal weather for February.indecision  Two months late, but winter is finally here.surprise And it looks as if Spring is looming around the end of next week?indecision

I'm sorry, but I like my seasons all in one chunk, over easy, not scrambled.sad  Unlike Florida weather, which has two seasons, hot all day, and almost tolerable at night.  Either is OK if you run around half naked most of the time.yes

Whee, with todays underwhelming sales, I have time to do some reorganizing... Added another 4TB drive to make some room where it's needed.

Complaint: I got the latest Covid booster Wednesday, and of course I'm achy all over and feeling generally blah. But it beats the alternative; I would like to make it to 70 come August.

70?  Bah, it's overrated except in the rear view mirror.frown

I should have had that T-shirt on the other day when I barked at the grocery store people because the bench outside had been removed.blush (Yes, I apologized.) The problem in today's world is that not enough people feel shame anymore.sad  And there's too much use of the phrase "It's all good", when it aint!angry

About an hour ago, I saw a report on CNN.  They showed Mt. Washington in NH.  It was -35, with a wind chill of -90!  And the Sun was still out!

...I need that shirt as well.

When I leave my usual "gathering spot" I tell the barkeep, "well, it's time for the old curmudgeon to head home."

There are some scientists that stay up there.  I've been up there in August, when it was 80F in the valley, but on the summit it was 40F and windy.  Didn't stay out on the observation platform for very long.  Wasn't expecting that, either.  That is when I bought a fleece zip up jacket.  Still use it.  I was with a friend.  I had more vacation weeks than Diane, and he had some time off.

What do you consider "up north"?

Here, above parallel 60, it's -13C (9F), predicted to get up to +1C (34F) tomorrow

Nope.  Slept late and been doing other things since I got up.  I did not go out today, not even across the street to get the mail.  It can wait.

..going "up north" in Wisconsin means going anywhere else in the state outside of Milwaukee or Madison.

"Upstate NY" is anywhere outside New York City and Long Island.  Or so say NYC residents.indecision  But us bumpkins out here on the bottom left of the State call this area either "Western NY" or more precisely the western end of "The Southern Tier" of NY.smiley

Sometime last night, I learned that electrical outlets are actually called powerpoints in some parts of the world, and this isn't some type of autocorrect failure.

it's amazing how many different terms we use, I am still coming to terms with sausage meaning something different to a snag in the states what we would call a rissole which again means something different

  • Non-complaint: The weather knew I needed to toddle up to the grocery store and decided to warm up for me.  Today it is non-freezing.yes

Complaint:  For the next several days, the driveway is going to be half ice and half snow before the 7 inches of powder turns into a decreasing thickness of slush.  Wheee... slippy.indecision

    Double complaint + 1 non-complaint.

Complain:  Spent a couple days working on a 'for the lols of it'  scene when I should be working on like, stuff I was actually paid to work on?

Complain:  Snowy trees. I had two of them.  One was working fine, the other kept rendering the leaves without any opacity for whatever reason.  Nothing I could think of changed that, and I spent almost an hour and a half banging my head against the program AND for whatever reason, porting them into other scenes showed no problems.  I couldn't figure it out, but it didn't seem like just doing a simple color overlay sacrificed any of the visuals that I was trying to achieve with the more complex Mix Material.

Non-Complaint:  Happy with how it turned out though, and learned a bit about procedurally adding snow to objects!  New scene for Da Gallery now !

    I think I'll name her  Aksee or something~  Axy-lotl :D

I was pretty happy when I got snow on the mountains~

Applied the same effect to the other rocks and stuff fairly well, but used Mixer to blend a custom texture for the smaller ones in the front.
