Ok, about two weeks too late, but the discussion of 'tropical outfit' got me thinking. Here's my take!
From something I'm working on elsewhere. Very technically, all three generations of Genesis men are represented. Lee 7 at the top, Darius 6 in the middle, Sean for David 5 at the bottom (although he got moved to G2M via GenX2). And yes, it is all 3Delight, because reasons.

Hi vwrangler,
Nice renders. May I ask where you got the background crowd used in your renders?
Cheers
Bleacher People by Greenpots at Renderosity. (Currently on sale for 40% off.) Instances very well. Do not, under any circumstances, use them without depth of field or bloom or something to blur them at least a little; they're very low poly, by design.
Many thanks for your prompt reply. I have done a few renders where I would have liked a crowd but not seen an item like this for sale before. Will now take a look over at Renderosity. I have several items by Greenpots.
Kind regards,
So, frustratingly, with new install I found that the shaders I was working on all broke. Nnngh.
Probably just done with that... a huge amount of work and Daz already gave me the cold shoulder.
But, going back to my original free Iray shaders, I think I might tinker with a Vol 2 for it. I also think one of the reasons the originals didn't get more interest is that they lacked presets; there were a handful of presets and some very flexible base shaders, but that required people to tinker with them. Having, instead, dozens of presets might get people more into it.
Here is a re-render of something I was working on earlier, adapting the WTZ shaders (which now don't work) to WTP.
I never saw a WTZ shader on your sharecg page but that render looks like a solid foundation for improvement. Most of the body and head are fine.
I knew when I saw War Bird, I had to get it for the genesis 3 male. I Think it looks pretty good. The skirt looked okay too, but I didn't like the movement so I removed it. I had to also replace the bikini with something more substantial because too much bulge was showing. This is Drako for Ivan 7, with some vein and fitness added.
Cool! I was wondering if the wings would work on G3M so I went ahead and got it. I hadn't had a chance to try it out yet. Nice to know that it should work when I'm ready to give it a try. Very nice image, btw! Those bats are a nice touch!
The wings work if you parent them to the back. Autofit destroys the movement, but you really can't tell they are parented.
I like that outfit! The background is great too, makes me wish I was in Hawaii! lol

Ohhh I love those men! The body hair on the center man is really great too. The only thing that throws it off a little bit, imo, is the background. The figures/men themselves look nearly photo-realistic, the croud however looks a bit static and "toon" looking - as they are all the same size, same poses, and all looking in the exact same direction. I think these scenes would actually look good with some blurred out croud photos of real people. That's just my opinion, of course. :) The rest of the renders look great - I love the poses, the expression, the realism with the vascularity and hair, etc - awesome work!
That's fantastic, Serene! Really great composition, framing and choice of colors. I love how the bats help draw your eye through the scene then the curve of the closest bat's wing draws your eyes back up to the main figure. REALLY sweet work here! :D
WTZ shader was something I was working on with an eye toward selling here (which apparently wasn't to their liking) or Rendo.
Really complex, interesting shaders with lots of cool interactions. Like you could mix two perlin noise channels, or mix in worley noise...
I might replicate that with WTP, keep it simpler (which also renders faster, so hey, not all bad). Biggest thing I want to add is the soap bubble shader I had, and then lots of presets.
My WTP shaders can handle dust, dirt, mud, blood, and other grunge stuff very easily, but since I didn't have explicit presets I think most people didn't notice.
OK, I messed around a bit with your WTP shaders earlier before I started working in the garden this past spring. I remember I wanted to start with WTP and extend the number of Surfaces on a DAZ human model so that I could then extend your WTP shaders using those extra added surfaces and new noise functions. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to go back to playing that this fall or winter. It sounds like what you are/were doing with the WTZ shaders.
Yeah. I'm going to come up with a second pack that has skins usable out of the box, and, more critically, add some geoshell/iray decal second layers so you can add birthmarks or freckles.
I think the biggest way to improve the look is simply with a lip mask to add a bit of a natural transition on the lips. It's one of the places where homogeneity looks the weirdest.
That sounds really cool, Will! :) I look forward to seeing it!
Thanks! The current pack already has pretty good presets for water ripples and rust, so hey.
Well, i'm interested, whether it's on DAZ Store, CGShare, or elsewhere.
Yes, the lips, nipples, and a bit of a blush / flush across the cheeks and nose and I think that the biggest and easiest improvement you can make.
It'll be on sharecg. Hopefully this time around it'll attract more interest and people willing to donate. ;)
A closeup. I made a lip mask that helps a little, though this close the problems are more obvious.
One of the upsides to procedural skin is that there are fewer texture maps, which can reduce the ram load. If you have a lot of power but not a lot of space, this might help keep you in GPU.
This should work decent at medium ranges, I think.
Sorry, I didn't even notice a donation button so I donated a small amount because it is a very nice start to a nice bit of work. I'll donate more later when I actually have a chance to do more than a render with it and try to extend it myself or you extend it with the WTZ shaders you were talking about.
Well, WTZ shaders are gone, but I'm thinking of basically WTP2, with a lot of presets so people don't have to puzzle it out. It'll cover most of what I was going to do with WTZ:
Skins, freckles, dust, dirt, snow, frost, water droplets, soap bubbles, various metals and building materials, wood, etc.
All those are already doable with the WTP that exists, but require people to basically fiddle with the shaders to get them, and, well, it's a little off-putting.
And thank you. ;)
Sounds cool. I will donate an actual product price with WTP2. LOL
It looks like it would be a good shader for toon type characters. :)
A new character that I'm working on. Just some raw renders, no post work.
I kind of like how he's coming along. I'm not sure about his blue eyes though.
Pretty good so a Conan type character. Someone was asking for Conan clothing in another thread.
I'm not sure about Conan clothing, this is a bit more "jungle", imo. In fact, that's the name of the clothes - Jungle Girl for Genesis 2 Females.
Conan's clothing is a bit more barbarian and a tiny bit little less "primitive" as it tends to have some metal work and leather straps and stuff:
Something like this, might be a bit Conan-ish. lol :) Or this mixed with some leather straps and buckles.
Nicely done! I look forward to seeing more of him DivaMakeup =-)
Well, ocelot fur or rabbit fur, not a big difference to me. But actually looking at that Conan picture now is bizarre when you evaluate what he's wearing and the technology that had to have been used to manufacture it - there is rabbit fur, cowhide, extremely sophisticated metallury and rivet work and from a barbarian to boot.
It's pretty close to the Marvel Comics of the 70s though. Red Sonja clothing is even more bizarre, she wears a bikini made of quarters. I'm surprised no one renders Red Sonja, I'd love to see her done. I'll try it next week & post it here. I'm not sure how I'm going to make that bikini of quarters yet though.
Anyway the renders are good and the eyes look good with it too.
