The only recent curly male hair I know of is Jonas Hair

In action, so to speak, looks like this:

So I'm on a bit of a male render bender here, I blame all of you ;)

I'm not entirely satisfied with this one, I expended so much effort making his nose properly aquiline, and its barely noticeable from this angle :( Also, does anyone have any recommendations for some more recent curly male mops? whilst I do still love Digital Curlz, its starting to show its age a bit. But hey at least I'm finally using a skin texture that's not Gianni!

I think the most modern one is Jonas Hair, but I like what you've done with that one. One of these days I'm going to have to try & do a proper realistic render, but probably not before I buy a new computer.

...hmmm...now that I think about it my neices were neighbors to these famous brothers called the Jonas Brothers, I think, and one of, or maybe all of them, look vaguely reminiscent of your render. (I think, I've not heard them sing or on TV but only a couple of pictures in glancing).

    Yasuo may have some... concerns.

Hah! That is too funny. I suspect Yasuo is going to not order the nigiri sushi for a while

That's a pretty good Pan. Does anyone know of a LAMH preset for the 3DU Toon Cow?

Damn, this looks good. Almost photographic precision with a slight deviation to the oil paintings effects. I really love his dreamy look and what you did to the hair. And I'm all in for more Jewish/Middle-Eastern characters. If they released Kalea and Kimo, I think they should do a Middle-Eastern couple too with proper hair and noses. smiley

J Cade's last few renders are, honestly, some of the most artistic and wonderful renders I've seen on this forum for a while (and I include my own stuff, heh)

The lighting ... oh man, the LIGHTING.

Lighting is one of those subtle and simple-seeming skills that divide good from great renders (or photographs... or painting, I suppose)

It is noticeable. A properly aquiline nose will be visible from any angle. It lends an overall nobility to the whole visage.

Why doesn't anyone mention the eyes?! You really made them look alive. heart It's Genesis3, right? You are using your iris morphs, I believe?

  • @vwrangler, I commented on your DA page.  Nice work.  :)

J cade  You and and @mal3Imagery always do such a great job on the eyes, very dreamy eyes.  Makes me so jealous that I'm not quite there yet!  Nice work on your images.  :)

Ah, Will, that made me smile. Nicely done!

I'd love some Jewish/Middle-Eastern characters. Its rather odd to me that there aren't more too, given all the Middle eastern architecture and clothing there actually is in the store. I'm holding out hope that Raiya will do something that fills the niche, at least (that's where I got the texture I used for this, so we're halfway there even, just need a lady).

    :)))))))))))

Sometimes I think the characters in my renders are just there to give the light something interesting to bounce off of

Honestly the lighting thing is a mix of  me spending lots of time looking at paintings and, just, lighting in the real world, I am the sort of person who, when walking around go "oooh! that's a well lit tree there!" and just... stare at it for 5 minutes (Its not just lighting, I once ended up standing outside in the rain for a bit because it matched up with the music I was listening to really well, the thunder timed perfectly with the baroque stage thunder, perfectly. It made me feel things)

Genesis 3, My eye morphs, and some absolutely painful eye material settings (I usually end up doing a spot render to a new window for just the eyes and compositing, because they take way more samples than anything else to converge) making sure the cornea is actually volume-y rather than thin walled is a must IMO (as is making the cornea and sclera share as many settings as possible), but it does darken the irises as an unfortunate side effect, I really miss cycles ability to make a material not cast shadows. It makes everything so much easier. In this case I cheated a little bit, Since I rendered out an exr I upped the exposure of the just the area of the irises a hair to get some of the iris color back in.

How do you achieve that depth of field? Is that in-render or post?

    Stunning, of course.

Admittedly, the men are a bit wee in the pic, but still...

Maybe should do a close-up. Hmm.

Yeah, no shadow casting is a godsend for models like DAZ eyes... In real world, the lighting on the iris is all refracted. But the DAZ figure corneas aren't an enclosed mesh, so in 3Delight photon-mapped refractive caustics simply don't work. I never tried the caustic sampler in Iray because I'm wary of accidentally frying my mobile GPU =) So yeah, Pixar all the way.

Either way, I find it difficult to get any sort of pleasant-looking reflection in the eyes, while you did brilliantly here. Did you put together an actual geometry environment, use a billboard, or was the HDR you used that specifically nice in terms of reflections?

    And now an Iray one.

I was primarily testing the notion of 150% cornea shape suggested elsewhere, as well as working out how I want to do Iray skydomes. At this point my preferred method is using the mapped skydome from Iray Superpak and using the map as a refraction color at about 50% weight and a regular sun/sky dome behind it, and then Terradome3 to provide ground/backdrop.

As usual, it sort of evolved from there.

Also learning more and more about lighting; in this case I found it useful to have additional Distant light from above to light the entire scene, plus a soft spot on the figure from below right.

I am trying the 3 cornea & iris morphs all maxed out too and I have to say it does make me like the shine in the eyes better, whether it's actually more realistic or not I don't know.

Think he found the top hat after the chili peppers finished shooting another music video.

Typical gymnast's attire; a tucked shirt is not really practical doing Gs on the different apparatuses. wink Think Med4D has a set too, with the shorts they typically wear over them.

Part of a much larger render I'm working on (I'm doing something with more than one person! and scenery! exciting)

A Cycles render this time, (heavily) postworked cycles.

Because its part of a much larger scene, only a small bit of it was going to end up visible, and thats a shame because, I mean, look at those trees rocks and hills. Thats all modeled, the sky is the only thing thats a flat imge. I sculpted those rocks by hand (okay its only one rock the rest are scaled and rotated duplicates). That grass, the leaves and the very background trees are all instances which blender handles beyond well (studio cant really do 12000 instances, I've tried) the whole thing used only about 250mb of memory (it helps that there are only about 4 textures in the entire image)

Good thing its "unfinished" otherwise there'd be gasp! nudity
