    Sandalphon: Intercession

  •  I redid it. The pose is live in my pose thread if folks want it. Check my sig.

The driver is probably not just texting and speeding... he's sort of tipsy, too =) Either way, great evolution of the police shirt, and the lighting is consistently cool.

BTW folks, if you have any Optitex dynamic clothing for DS, don't forget that you can use it on any figure. Just do an animated drape starting from a "T-pose", the way people do it in Poser and other apps.

:sigh: My Christmas idea would not cooperate so maybe for New Year. Meanwhile here's what I just finished. Michael 4 Beautiful Bends version, rendered in PoserPro 2014, postworked in Photoshop CS2 and Paintshop Pro.

Title: "But You Can Call Me ..."

    Story:

He came out of the pod still trying to stuff himself into the ridiculous excuse for a uniform they get issued with in Cyber Division and I tried my damnedest not to stare. Failed, miserably. Though it couldn't really be helped, what with me being a healthy adult human male whose job description demands curiosity coupled with highly skilled observation at all times. That and I'm an absolute sucker for tall, dark and sexy. Oh well, at least I didn't drool. Much.

I untied my tongue and introduced myself to the blue neon dream. "The name's Jake Baxter. Captain Zav  :click: Reesh-Mok just assigned you to me."

Eyes and implants -- even the one in his navel! -- glowed softly while he scanned. The process took maybe a whole half second before he smiled and it was in no way artificial. Not just a bot, then. Sentient. "Hello, Jake. My official designation is TLR-521." Deep velvet voice that belonged in a boudoir, not a police station. "But you can call me Tyler."

Hoo boy! I was a goner and I knew it. But I wouldn't go down alone. Next time I saw Reesh-Mok I swore I was going to shoot the tentacles right off zhym, the nosy little matchmaking twerp!

"Really, Jake. That's not such a good idea."

"Lovely," I groaned. "My partner's a mind reader."

"My protocols don't include telepathy. But I wouldn't need it in this case," he added. "Your face is an open book as they say. Which is probably why you always lose at poker."

    "I do not!"

"Do too and I can prove it!" he sassed back and if possible I fell even harder. Hadn't a prayer of hiding it, not from the likes of him, but that didn't stop me from trying.

"Whatever. Update your files and get a move on, we haven't got all day."

My second entry for the "It's raining men" contest, which I didn't think to crosspost here at the time. It's entered in both the main contest and the repurposed female items contest.

Jake Baxter. He wouldn't play their game so they got rid of him. 200 years later he's still on their case.

Production Notes: Michael 4 Beautiful Bends. Rendered in PoserPro 2014, very minor postwork in Photoshop CS2.

I really should have posted these here sooner... My second and third entries for the Raining Men contest:

    Power

    Power, by L'Adait

This is Darius 7 using Hellboy's presets to remove the facial hair. I was really liking the pose and lighting I had while I added the dragon. Then I started playing with DA's Real World Lighting and thought "holy ----!" The lighting on this now is 10 times better. (I went a little bit crazy getting DA products on the cheap, but I'm really liking the Black Dragon.) I was trying to convey the man and dragon as both allies and equals. Did I mention, Darius is gorgeous? With or without the facial hair. Adding the piercings was a bit of fun. Spent a lot of time looking at Darius close up. Yummm.  (This is Darius' default skin shaders.)

    Bromance

    Bromance, by L'Adair

This is my own dial-spun version of Michael 7. I call him Stefan. The skin mats are from GypsyAngel's Ragnar and I used N.G.S Anagenessis - Revolution on him. I also used Anagenessis on the horse. I had to do a lot of tweaking to get the ears and head to match. There is a small amount of postwork to "heal" the seam between them. I used one of the night HDRIs from TerraLuna 3, but the moonlight is a Distant Light. Then I used KA's ghost light tutorial info to create a ghost light between the fire and the "bros." And more from DA, the ground plane under the guys uses one of the shaders from DA Stonework & Masonry Shaders and the ground from Around the Campfire has another shader from the same set.

    Go dragon =)

Is it a gel light, or a shadow through transparent stuff?

  • Oso3DOso3D Posts: 15,040

Just the windows that came with it and a distant light! Was a happy accident. Originally I had a much more evenly lit scene, saw the light pattern and went 'wait, this lighting is really boring' and adjusted.

The subject I'm really consumed with right now is lighting. I tend to default to really dull lighting that makes stuff look flat, and have to remind myself to work at the lighting.

(In the future I hope to tackle modeling, but I keep getting cold feet)

    Cool accident =)

Yeah, lighting is important and tricky...

For modeling, I think the key is finding the software that "clicks" with you.

I'm utterly in love with Leo, he has such an interesting face. And even looks good with a beard! Unfortunately, I discovered that my lovely glasses, when directly lit cause weird polygon shadows and I don't know how to fix it. :| But I still like this render. Also the first of 2017.

    The render is very nice!

Those shadows... if you render in Iray, you could try enabling the caustic sampler, I think. And/or subdivide the glasses, if they aren't already (and if they survive this, not all models do).

Caustics, huh. I'll have to try that, I've not played with that setting. Thanks for the tip. And I probably can go back to Blender and poke at the glass lenses again, see if I can smooth them out some more.

I had a similar problem with the Amazing Hat in this render. Maybe my solution will work for you. Or at least help.

Under parameters for Mesh Resolution of the hat, I made several changes. I opened the file to see what my current settings are and found Resolution Level set to High Resolution, (that might have been the default, I don't remember;) the SubDivision Level set to 2, as well as the Render SubD Level (Minimum); the SubDivision Algorithm set to Loop; and the Edge Interpolation set to Soft Corners And Edges. I remember doing a lot of spot renders changing the the last two parameters until I found something that wasn't so sharp. I'm pretty sure I made adjustments to the lighting as well.

I hope this information ends up being helpful.

Yes, thank you. I'm always looking for to learn more. I will try this. :)

Great render, if only it weren't for those glasses!  That's weird.  Did you try changing out the glass shader to see if that made any difference?

  • @Knittingmommy, that.....actually didn't even occur to me to try. Hmmm. right now it's the Solid glass shader, I could try the thin glass one instead.
