Do not select the "Genesis 3 Female Centaur" or the "Genesis 3 Male Centaur" in the scene tab. Expand that and look for the first parented item for the centaur body, (NOT the geoshell.) I don't have DS open at the moment, so I'm going by memory. I'm pretty sure that will work...

yup been there done that chose Genesis 3 Female Centuar /Female Centuar Body /Female Centuar Tail and then comes Geoshell ,have tried choosing the Genesis 3 Female ,when that threw up the error message I tried ,the Female Centuar Body ....still throws up the error message  I can load a texture manually though and the Female skins work on the Male fine so I am confused oh and I've redownloaded the males skins 3 x's thinking there was a update I missed

In that case, I have no idea what is going on. However, I was having an issue where loading a saved scene with a centaur in it would crash Daz Studio, and Tech Support had me clear out my cache. Darned if that didn't fix the problem. I think that's worth a try for you... it may not work, but it won't hurt anything, either. Here's what they told me to do:

Have you tried clearing your temp cache?
By default, they are located here:
    C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\Studio4\temp
    and
    C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\dson\cache

If you can not see your AppData folder, type %appdata% in the Start menu and Windows will open the hidden folder.

Simply delete the files in these folders.

I was a bit wary of deleting everything at first, but I found clearing the cache didn't affect anything adversely, and it did fix my crashing problem.

I think you should put in a trouble ticket. Let them know you already tried clearing the cache. I'm sure they'll have more and better suggestions.

Well I did what you suggested and put in a support ticket ,and was surprised and disappointed with the response " no where on the product page does it state that the Centuar 7 male skins are compatible with the female" and my question was deemed solved. So am I the only one that had this issue with the female skins working on the male but the male skins NOT loading on the femaleor am I the only one that splurged on both?

I have both. I also have IDG Iray Essentials - Daz Horse 2 and Centaur 7, and it loads all the options on either male or female. Not to mention does a much better job on the coat, assuming you're using Iray. It may be I've not had any issues "cross-dressing" my centaurs because I'm using Iray Essentials. I'll bypass that, and see what I can come up with...

ETA: To test this, I loaded 4 centaurs, 1 each centaur complete (G3F and G3M) and 1 each centaur "wearable" on a corresponding G3F and G3M character. One at a time, with all four centaurs, I selected the centaur body and was able to apply all 16 coat presets in both 3Delight and Iray materials.

Remind me again... have you tried uninstalling both centaur products, and then reinstalling?

I don't have the IDG Iray Essentials ,I have uninstalled the male skins and the female Centuars ,I haven't tried any of the male wearable (aka cothing or  armour) on the females .My issue has only been with the male SKINS not applying on the female centuar body. soo I 'll try uninstalling both the male and female Centuars and their skins and reinstall see if that helps ...

okay so uninstalled -reinstalled and still have the same issues and am really confused still the male will take the female textures/skins no problem but the female still is throwing up an error check the log message ....

I have both and the extra pack skins, wanted to be able to really get a mix of centaurs. Now if we are talking the Male G3 hide being use instead of the Female G3 version, that does seem to work.

Centaur 7 for Genesis 3 Male(s), and can apply the coat texture only to the Female Centaur 7 Coat, then the texture from the male to the female.

Now I noticed there were a couple of Centaurs, beautiful in design, nice placement of the hide / skin detail. None the less , they didn't work with the Female Centaurs.
Of the coats which did, including texture packs:

Centaur 7 Male Hides and Breeds
IDG Iray Essentials - Daz Horse 2 and Centaur 7
DA Enhanced Iray Materials Presets for Centaur 7 Male
    And of course...
Centaur 7 Female Hides and Breeds

Most of the hides did require an update in order to work with both and while waiting for the updates as they came in there was some didn't work but does now.... going on.

Aine for me I have both of the Centuar 7 male and female, the Centuar 7 Male Hides and Breeds ,the Centuar 7 Female Hides and Breeds ,both of which work on the Centuar male ,but the female only loads the female hides if I try the male hides on her it throws up a error message that says check the log ........I've only tried this with the base Centuar figure ,and I don't use Iray so I haven't purchased the IDG's or DA's  Iray Material stuff ..........

can somebody tell me if there is a difference in the zip file number of the updated files from the original??Is there a chance I didn't get  the update? I manually download and install all my stuff.......

No, there's no difference in the name of the zip file.

You've tried uninstalling and reinstalling both centaur products. Did you redownload the files to reinstall? If not, I recommend uninstalling again,  downloading the product files again and reinstall from the newly downloaded files. That will ensure you are working with the latest versions of both products. As you install manually, it is very possible there was an update you didn't get.

You're welcome. I'm sorry we couldn't find the culprit, though. That's annoying. But I must admit, I don't have a clue what to try next. It's a pain to have to create your own material presets, but perhaps better than spending any more time trying to figure this one out! It shouldn't be too bad; loading both centaurs and applying the materials to the male, then copy/paste from the male centaur body to the female centaur body and the male geoshell to the female geoshell. That should go relatively fast.

    Have fun. wink

Sorry it wasn't working for you, as I could get them to work out. Not sure what it could have been.

I am one to do / handle mainly iRay, but even there, it should have been the same results.

L'Adair, very cool! That would be a faster way to get it over to the other without starting all over again.

yeah the sad thing is I had already create 110 coats from Horse2 for the centuar using the male .......and none of them apply to the female either sooo I have to resave all of them too .Did that while waiting for the female to show up.So once I get done with the needle felted Shih Tzu I'm working on I guess I'll be resaving skins to work on the centuar again

110 coats!!! Holy mackerel... Before you tackle that task, there is something you can try. Have a cup of tea, (or other favorite beverage,) and give me chance to put together a few screencaptures to go along with the steps...

Okay, carrie58, here is a quick mini-tutorial for adding compatibility via the Content DB Editor.

    1. Locate the Centaur 7 Male Material Presets in the Content Library. (I keep mine docked in the left column. If you don't dock it, you can find it in the main Menu: Window->Panes (Tabs)->Content Library.) I've selected the 3Delight materials sub-folder, for this example.
    2. Click on the Menu Icon in the upper right corner of the Pane.
    3. Scroll down the resulting popup menu and select Content DB Editor

Screenshot, where to find the Content DB Editor
    4. The Content DB Editor will open in a popup window. All the material presets for the selected folder will be listed. Select the first one, and click on the "Compatibility" tab in the lower half of the window. You will then see all the compatibilities set for the selected material. In this example, compatibility has been set for both the Male and Female centaur Bodies. I suspect the materials you are having trouble with have only one or the other.

Screenshot of the Content DB Editor window
    5. To Add a Compatibility, right-click on the material selection in the lower half of the window to access the menu shown in the image. Click on "Add Compatibilities to Selected File(s)" While this image does not show it, you can select multiple materials and assign all of them the same compatibility in one operation. If you  have all 110 materials in the same folder, that should speed things up a lot!
    6. A new window will pop up, listing everything in your database. Type centaur into the search field, and click on the search icon. Each time you click on the search icon, it will move you to the next instance of the search term. Locate the Female Centaur Body. Select it, and then click on the Accept button.

Screenshot of the Select a Compatibility Base window

Repeat these steps as necessary, (assuming it makes the material presets you created for the male centaur bodies work with the females.)

    I hope this helps.

I use a free utility called Irfanview. Discovered it a very long time ago, and I've used it through numerous iterations of Windows: from Win95, (or maybe Win98... it really was a long time ago,) to Win10. I use it mostly for screencaptures, but occasionally I use it to fine tune compression on a jpg for the Gallery. And I don't have to worry about the latest "greatest" out of Microsoft... I use Win10 on my render machine, but I don't like it. Other than actual rendering, it often feels slower than this older Win7 machine. It definitely doesn't like my wireless Logitech Trackman...

But getting back to the centaur 7, can you add compatibility for the female to one of the material presets for the males? Does it work as expected?
