I should think I'll be in the same boat next week.
CHEERS!
Nice,
Of course, the obvious question is why she has a box on her head!
CHEERS!
Those lights make use of UberEnvironment lighting. This should prove helpful:

By the way, Latinos are Latin American men, the lights are Lantios, LOL!! Googling the former could yield some interesting and unexpected results!
CHEERS!
This was where I got the basics of HSS from:

I'll have to have a look for more on that.

LOL! Whoops.
I used those linked settings for my HSS and UE. Just need to play with the UE settings a bit more I think...

ok that was handy, I have 4 textures to choose from for V5, and they ALL have different default shaders, so I have been plugging them in with the HSS so I can render them on a more even playing field, not sure they all have specular maps though, but I think I can just use the same one with all the textures.. anyway... another HSS test render.
ok now with another texture Tori for V5, the specular is still a tad high, need to tweak the specular2 channel some more..
I really quite like this lighting :)
You'll most likely find the plastic look has to do with the specular settings on the skin. I'd compare the skin surface parameters with M5 and V5, both use HSS, and have effective but varied surface settings from one another. By observing the settings on these is how I learned HSS. And lots of trial and error :) But I like your lights improvement. Looks like your learning quick :)

I've been doing photography as a hobby since the early '80s so I have a fairly good idea of how lights should look, its alot easier to set up a decent light rig in Poser with the default light available, doing it in DS has taken some time, but once I figured out how to use the Area lights (not the uber ones..) things started coming together, and I can get some really good soft lighting using them.
wasn't too concerned with the shadows on the studio backdrop primative I nicked from poser, as the figure was less than a body length away from it, so the shadow should have been fairly sharp,
I also figured out how to make an IDL shader camera in the shader mixer, but Woooo, does it hammer the render times.
The graininess has a lot to do with your render settings if that is HSS. Uber Surface/Uber lights tends to get that sort of graininess over HSS.
I recommend you look at Jaderails tut on DOF, he lists very good render settings. I use the render settings for my high res renders. It will get rid of all the noise/grain, and will bring out the definition of the textures superbly. Be warned though... High render quality settings means long renders. :)

Great renders and tips,
Yeah, specular 2 is one to watch, start low and go higher if you need to. I also dug up what Omnifreaker recommended for the HSS:

ok something a little different.. MoonLight needs adjustment, I feel its a tad too bright.. 30 minutes to render this with the current lighting set up..
Pretty cool,
Thing is, the globe would be casting its own light into the scene, I'm sure there is a way to make it do that somewhere.
CHEERS!
It IS casting its own light, you can see it relfected on the Genesis Character.
the moon light is over riding it, because it doesn't have any fall off and the globe does.. so I have to play with settings
Sci if renders click on links for large files

redid lighting a bit..
Along the lines of the same style rendered in DS3A using LDP2 lightsSacrafice

Oh, ok,
I guess we're all still learning.

Much better!

...interesting...would fit well on the January PC Render Challenge thread.
Nice work.
