I have a lot of light sets, but find that for most of my renders, I end up creating my own light rigs specific for the render
I love using a lot of Linear Point Lights - one of the best light in DS :) - very versatile

an example is this render which is 1 small Linear Point Lights at each of the red lights and 4 Point lights - one each light in the ceiling - the 2 that can be seen in the render and one around the corner and one behind the camera

the ceiling ones had the fall off set to start:zero and the end to about the M4 waist

    Neat effects,

I've got some exploring to do it seems. I hope LDP3 is being developed, LDP2 looks really good.

    Nice,

I did another with a day preset, this time it was my old favourite Rhiannon's Elsa. The clothes and spear and hair are hers and the texture is Ariana again. I love how everything blends, she doesn't look like she's standing in front of a studio backdrop, she looks like she's actually on that beach.

    Very nice!

For anyone that doesn't rate Male M3dia's stuff, get a load of this render!

    OMG!!

With the day presets, eye reflections don't seem to show, which leaves the eyes looking a little dead, so, I'm using eyes which already have reflections.

Now I want ALL Male's textures!!

It looks like you used an environment map for the reflection on the bot. While that's a good way to reduce render times, if you want the best results you'll have to go with either raytracing it or creating an environment based on the scenery you're using. Freak-Bot looks like he doesn't quite fit with his surroundings.

Would that be where UberSurface would come in for creating a metallic shader with real reflections?

Well, the Daz Default shader can do it too, though certainly the UberShader works wonders for that as well.

    Cool,

The beauty of the HSS mats that Axel has is that they load and then you can render straight away. I'm going over those settings with a fine tooth comb as they look to be optimal.

    I'm enjoying this now!

Axel rocks, for something different I dressed him up a bit. It's Predatron's M4 Business Suit, I'll definitely get the one for Hiro/Genesis now.

Thanks, I have realized it now. There were only ambient light and the candle lights consists of double point linear lights in the scene.
Have tried the different Uberenvironment setup, but Daz Studio crashed after over an hour of rendering.
I have started the render again after restart of the computer and the crash happen again.

Not sure what to suggest there,

Anyhow, Rob and Stratton look to like Axel's settings too! I had to change Stratton's diffuse colour to a light grey as the lights were obliterating him when they were set to white.

Since I've finally got GenerationX to actually transfer morphs properly, I thought I'd give it a try with transferring K4's Kaelyn to Genesis. One thing became horribly apparent though, I'm in dire need of more child-friendly outfits. Either way, I was playing around with the skin settings on Ella for K4 and the Kaelyn textures, and it came out fairly good.

I upgraded the kids textures to UberSurface2 and gave them the usual makeover of reflection mapping and subsurface scatter. One of the nice things about using Genesis is I could use the Philip eyes which came with M5, which don't have baked-in reflections and have impressive settings by default.

    ...nice work on both pics.

Considering the memory restrictions I have been working under, a lot of the "realistic" light sets that employ UE, usually result in a quick trip to a render crash (particularly in 3Advanced and 4.5). Thus, I also have relied more on setting up my own custom light arrays just using the standard Distant, Spot, and Point lights (and the new Linear Point Lights).

Yeah, and a render like that one cant be done with UE

...exactly. I find It is so much simpler to set a a specific mood just using the the normal lights like thus:

    Nice job,

Gen X is next on my list, so good to know it does actually work in 4.5. I've reinstalled Syyd Raven's Vanilla Sky with the DS versions of her shaders and she comes with UberSurface presets, so, it'll be interesting to see what they can do.

    Phil's eyes are really good.

Hopefully, now you do have a better set up, you won't have so many issues with this. When I bought this laptop, a primary concern was that it could run anything I wanted it to. A quad core, 6gb RAM and a dedicated graphics card seem to be fitting the bill.

With DS being this good, I'm not sure I want to bother with Reality (sorry Bob). I'm happy enough with what I have and here's Marie to prove it. I seem to like making her cute by using S5 and not going the Tyra/Naomi route with V5.

Oh yeah, I spotted what look like seams on Rob's arms in that last render of him, that's where I used the no tattoo textures for his arms, easy fix I guess.

    Tried Lana again,

Even more WOW! The trick to this is a light grey diffuse and a salmon pink subsurface colour. This made me think that a bright orange would work as a subsurface colour for Rob and Marie. Back when the late, great Stan Winston was working on Roots he found that his black make-ups weren't reading right on camera, he then put a bright orange base down before painting the other colours and they read right. Something to try there methinks...

    Yup,

Changing the subsurface colour did work. Rob and Marie look great, as do Lee and Maya.

    I'm lovin' it!

EDIT: I noticed Rob still had those funny seams, so, I put some clothes on him, they're Smay's Bad Guy.

...the silly thing is I have Reality2 (32 bit of course) on the notebook, Barely used it as, while it doesn't crash, it makes even Bryce's glacially slow render engine seem lightning fast in comparison.
