...still, as I mentioned, with Genesis, certain components need to be in specific places or you get the "...not found" error like I have been seeing. That didn't happen with the .exe installers, only these new DIM ones. I don't use the DIM because I do not download directly to the workstation as my bandwidth from home sucks small planetoids. This is why perform all downloads at a hotspot, then transfer the installers to the Workstation vie USB stick and do manual installs when I get home.

The way it appears now, to use the DIM to install, you have to be online and DL the item at the same time.

    (a) Genesis content is no different than other content -- if you're getting "not found" errors either the zip was packed wrong or you're doing something different.

    (b) You don't need to download directly to the computer you're installing on, you can even download the zips from your Product Library and place them in the DIM download folder.

    (c) Plugins are going to zips also -- DIM can now process plugins and software.
...I'm extracting to a temp folder and then moving things from there as I have a custom setup. All content is on the "Runtime" D: Drive, not the C:/Root where the apps install to. So, I am not certain if this is breaking a path somewhere for something that usually was automatically handled by the .exe.

As to plugins using the same format, that just sounds like a bundle or trouble waiting to happen for someone like myself who performs manual installs.

Run up DIM. Select Offline mode. The little "cog" in the top-right corner (to show Settings). "Downloads" tab - the "Download To:" folder - change that to point to your stick (seems a little dangerous, because it's removeable media... but if you really don't want to copy the ZIPs off your stick into a "install directory" on your HD, so be it)... Accept... and then make sure you leave the stick in each time you run DIM. You may also wish to twiddle the "Show" settings under that 'Download To' field, so that it'll show you only DS 4.5+ (or DS 3, or whatever combo of applications you want to see files for).

...unfortunately there is no longer a separate control for simply downloading with the DIM with the changes made to the Product Library. The only options are "Manual Download" and "Download & Install".

I have no trouble with Zip installers from Rendo or RDNA as they include a ReadMe which lists where everything is supposed to go as well as all the components. With Daz's, I have to guess where everything goes (which is most likely why I have been running into broken paths as mentioned above) as there is no documentation anywhere. Heck, even most freebie creators provide a ReadMe.

They made this more complicated than it needs to be.

The folder structures are easy to see inside the zip files. Are you using an archiver, or just "running" the zip files from Windows Explorer?

    What's "manual download" do?

(here, it gives me the DIM ZIP - observable by the funky IMxyz123-version_blah.zip filename... which can then be placed in the DIM-configured download dir...)

    ETA: sorry, perhaps I misunderstand...

... when you're at your hotspot, with (presumably) your laptop, or even with the hotspot machine which presumably allows you to stick your USB stick into it... using that "Manual Download" option and sending the file to your stick... is that not workable for you?

Just looking at it I don't see why you can't use DIM.

Run DIM in online mode at least once to let it update itself so you're sure you have the latest version. Once that's done you can ignore the list of Ready to Download and just click on the settings cog.

    1. On the Downloads tab change the Download To so it points to either your USB stick or a temp directory that you copy your downloads to. I'd recommend copying off of your USB stick else you have to make sure your stick always maps to the same drive letter.

    2. On the Installation tab make sure the 32bit and 64bit Software directories point to where your applications are installed. This is Daz or other apps not the actual content.

    3. In the list of paths at the bottom (there will probably be only 1 right now) you can either edit the 1 labeled Recommended Daz... so that it points to where you normally install your content or click the + at the bottom to add another path pointing to where you install. If you add another path make sure that it's the Current by selecting it in the Current drop down at the bottom of the screen.

    4. On the Applications tab make sure that the correct paths for your Daz and/or Poser installs are shown.

Click Accept and exit the DIM

Head to your hotspot and click the manual download button for what you need to download. You should get a zip file saved to your stick.

Take your stick back to your PC. If you're not going to copy the files to a temp directory make sure your stick has the same drive letter it had when you setup DIM.

Fire up DIM and tick Work Offline. Go to the Ready to Install tab and you should see the stuff you downloaded. I'd double check the settings and make sure the Current drop down on the Installation tab is pointing to the right place but it should be. If you want to keep the zip files after installing make sure you un-tick the Delete Installer once installed checkbox. Click the Start Queue button and everything should install to the location you want.

If you just want to do it manually like you've done before it should be quite easy.

In the zip file you downloaded there should be a manifest.dsx file and a Content folder. Ignore the manifest.dsx file, it's basically metadata for the DIM. Don't just copy the Content folder to the directory you use for your products but copy what's inside it to your where you store your content.

I currently only have 1 zip file to look at but I'll use it as an example.

Inside the IM####-whatever.zip file there is a folder called Content. Inside that content folder there are 2 more folders called People and Runtime. I keep my DS/Poser content in the generic location of C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library so I would merge the People and Runtime folders from that zip into C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library\People and C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library\Runtime respectively.

If you're using Win7 or 8 you should be able to open the zip file using explorer and open the folder where your content is stored in a second window. Then just drag and drop the People and Runtime folders from the zip to your directory.

My guess as to why stuff isn't being found is that you just copied that Content directory to where you store your files. If so things won't be able to find dependencies as that folder isn't supposed to exist. If that's the case you should be able to take anything in the Content folder and move it to the base data folder to resolve your issues.

Complaints: yesterdays mega-stress dose ruined my evening (no sleep) and my digestion (indigestion all night). I got maybe 3 hours of sleep and the silly tuna fish sub (totally inoffensive) fought back all night! Argh! (argh blech aaah faces) I actually feel pretty hideous today.

Non-complaints: All my fixes yesterday have so far passed all the new tests so we don't have to stop shipping this product from either here or China, yaay! And so far absolutely NO disasters since I came in, yaay! And I got paid, yaay! And the weather is supposed to be nice for my run to the bank, yaay! (slightly happy face) So with any luck i can have the quiet, easy work day I expected yesterday!!!!!

Small happy: some content money, time to buy more shaders and textures! Maybe Furrify or the moss-growing one.

    Cawfee now!

...well, discovered one of the reasons the DIM on the workstation won't work, it is the first Beta version. I cannot update it because the download is over 100MB which is too large for my bandwidth from home to handle without it corrupting or crashing due to a connection reset or timeout as it would take between one to two hours.

As to using the USB stick. yes, the drive ID would be a conflict as the Workstation has dual HDDs and an optical drive, while the notebook has only one HDD and optical drive. Therefore the download Drive ID tag on the notebook would be one letter "off" from the Workstation which is most likely why the DIM (even if it was the update version) is not able to find and install the content as it would be looking for the "E" not "F" drive.

Another issue that soured me on the DIM is that I', still experiencing issues with it corrupting my username. Each time I open the utility, it keeps substituting the letter "a" for the "@" character in my email addy. Getting tired of having to "Add a new Account" each time I need to use it. I already filed a support ticket a while ago on this but yet to receive any feedback that the issue has been addressed and resolved.

...I just want this process to be simple, the way they used to be (DL the .exe - transfer to the workstation - install), this is not.

...the more they overtech the plumbing
the easier it is to stop up the drain.

Copy the files from the USB to whatever drive you want to use for downloads on the workstation. Open DIM and go to settings, and set that location as the downloads folder. It's a local setting, obviously -- doesn't matter what you may have it set to on the laptop.

Did you delete all the user account data and start fresh? Not that it matters since you're using it in offline mode.

No idea why this always happens to you. You had the same problems using the installers, as I recall. "DL the zip -- transfer to the workstation -- install with DIM" shouldn't be any harder than DLing an installer and running it.

"Manual Download" downloads the DIM-compatible zip. "Download & Install" just means "open up DIM and have the product shown in the "Ready to Download" tab -- it doesn't actual download it until you tell it to, and it doesn't override your "Install after download" setting.

The manifest.dsx inside the zip says where every file needs to go -- I don't know why you need it for installing content, as the file structure is already set up in the zip.

...which is unreadable (the .dsx). There are library and data folders in both the Runtime and Content folders, there is a Content folder inside the Content folder.

Again I've experienced no issues manually installing Rendo/Xurge/RDNA content zips, only the Daz ones.

I use Office 2007, and I only recently archived my emails and started a new pst file. I had emails in there since the mid to late 90s! And a lot of them. Maybe it was a setting you had. I can still open the old one and look for things that I want to reference.
