    Very nice,

I'm doing a lot of re-evaluation of what I've been doing with DS and where I intend to go. I've looked at a lot of things all wrong and been led in the wrong directions by the wrong people. I'm going back to basics and looking at what they can give me. So far, I've realised that the AoA shader and the figure maps at default have had absolutely nothing wrong with them and can look brilliant with just basic lights.

I'll toy with this some more later and will post renders of my findings

I've been thoroughly enjoying having a play with 2 of the default characters, Bjorn and Darius. All I've done is tweak the AoA shader, add Actual Eyes 4 and light it with UE2 and a distant and a specular spotlight with the photometric mode turned on.

I'm quite happy with these two, and may save them as MATs and get on with what I've always loved doing and that is making characters out of them. That's where I'm happiest!

As a quick example of creating a character, this is Bjorn with Face Young dialed right back and the HD details from Smay's Boris dialed right up.

    Very great setups!
If only could add some tip, use thin glass on the corneas and Cut Out Opacity at 50%

Been in the mood to play with older figures lately. First it was v3 a couple pictures ago and now the original troll.

Not sure I understand this, as UE2 is 3DL only and photometric is Iray only.

I still use Aiko 3 all the time. i think it was just a couple of months ago when i bought her some new stuff. I think her and Sara will be my all time favorites.

Thanks, I think I'd been way too dismissive of the AoA shader in the past, and I think others may have been too. People may think that as it's a default shader then it's not terribly good, like the default DS shaders for skin. I've come to realise that it's actually a very, very good shader for what it does. I don't think the AoA lights complemented it as well as they could, and it looks way better lit with UE2.

Now I know I can get both looking good with little effort, I can concentrate on scenes and characters

I can't wait to get V7 and the morphs now

Actually, the AE4 shader takes care of that, you just can't see it as the eyes are in shadow. AE4 is really very good.

It's not the UE2 that has the photometric, it's the distant light and the spotlight. Here's a screenshot of the distant light. You have to have the hidden parameters turned on to access the controls.

Here's Nevio with the same set up,

I did try the Boris morphs on him but the lips looked odd. Same head but a different texture.

Dire Bunny - great as usual - in terms of math, achieving similar results to yours,
is like infinite limit - it will never happen to me.

zilvergrafix - your Aiko3 portrait is great as well.
