Today on I May or May Not Be Dying, I seem to have entered the gastrointestinal phase of whatever is ailing me. I called for an appointment today and was told that the soonest appointment available was August 5th, but I talked to a nurse practitioner on the phone yesterday (after being told that there was a six-hour wait to see urgent care), and she told me that I needed to go in for a physical examination, chest X-ray and some bloodwork, so hopefully they can get me in some time in the next few days.

Thanks. Nothing feels life-threatening, it just really sucks, especially since we're moving, and I haven't been able to do much to help pack despite having by far the most stuff to pack.

I hope it's something very minor...maybe, like they say about kids...just gas.  Seriously, could be a blockage or any number of things that aren't too serious.  I'm hoping.

only one complanit today - its 9C (48F), wind is blowing a hoolie (50-65 MPH) and there's torrential rain.. Had to put the heat on this am.. Rivers are rising too, and ist snowing west of us..

...been sort of like that for us here as well. Not quite a cold but still unseasonable for this time of year.  Yeah, we'll be struggling to even make 70 on the first day of summer when the normal high is supposed to be in the mid 70s. At least is now supposed to be partly cloudy, though as I've seen that can change for the worse in a few days. Tomorrow was supposed to be partly sunny but now calls for cloudy all day.  Beginning to feel I'm in Juneau Alaska instead of Portland OR.

Meanwhile, back in the old home country, more extreme heat in Wisconsin. 96°  in downtown Steven's Point (up in the north central area of the state) where I first went to college. 98° at Mitchell Airport in Milwaukee though 102° by Warnimont Park which is on the lake shore near my old high school, and 100° in Bay View where I used to go to grade school.  In Madison where I lived for a bit, 96° on the UW campus and at Dane County Airport. while  90° up north in Park Falls (which in winter is usually the state's coldest spot)

It's been in the low to mid 90F's here for the last week and gonna get hotter this week nearing 100F

I'm almost afraid to brag about our perfect weather mix here, this season, so far.  With the world drying up and burning and shaking apart and drowning, and blowing away elsewhere, everybody will be wanting to come here.frown

Complaint:  Boogers! frown  My joy at having fixed my favorite keyboard and finally figured out Logitech wireless "Unifying Receiver" technology was short lived.sad  Since the "fix" I've been getting strange behavior from the computer and I finally caught the keyboard blathering repetative characters at will.angry  OK, so I give up on my favorite keyboard and go to replace it with my new keyboard and then "Unify" it with my old favorite mouse instead of the new one that came in the box with the keyboard, but it turns out that the new keyboard/mouse combo is NOT a unifying system and I can't unify the old mouse with the new keyboard.no(I guess that's why it was so cheap.)  They apparently must have the original transceiver that came with the combo, but I seem to have somehow boogered that up too.surprise  I can't get both the new mouse and the new keyboard linked up with the original, single, official transceiver.  Boogers!crying

What is most frustrating is that at one time, for a few days, I had this system working with the new keyboard and old mouse through a single unifying receiver, but now I can't repeat the situation.  The Logitech "Unifying Software" refuses to recognize the new keyboard as a unifiable device.broken heart

(*Sigh*) I gave up trying, and settled on using the new keyboard with its new non-unifying receiver, and the old mouse with its own original unifying receiver.  Simple but not elegant.  Sometimes, simple is best.indecision

And it turns out I already got them.  Were they a weekly freebie once?

'Nother complaint:  Arghhh..., now the HDMI output of one of my machines isn't outputting!frown  It's my old original "MommaBear" motherboard with an Intel i5-8600 that does have integrated graphics on the CPU.  The motherboard provides a VGA, a DVI and an HDMI output.   I had the machine outputting through the HDMI port ever since I put MommaBear back together in her new case, but now the HDMI only outputs black and I had to hook up a DVI cable to another monitor.  Nothing wrong with any of my monitors, and nothing wrong with my KVM switches, but MommaBear, just doesn't output through her HDMI anymore.sad

...68° and actually fair out this afternoon heading to a forecast high of 72°.  After tomorrow back to more wet into Saturday following which, it appears we may finally get a stretch of more seasonable weather. for all of net week, though not crossing my fingers on that with the way I've seen similar advance forecasts get downgraded the last several times. Going to head out soon to my coffee shop and then the pub for a couple pints to sit in the sun while it's out.

Meet my little friend... her name is Anansi, she's named after the trickster god in West African folklore (probably of Ghanaian origin).

She's kinda cute... if you look close you can see her tiny little eyes... all six of them.
In later legends Anansi is usually portrayed as male, but in older folklore and mythology, Anansi is gender fluid, sometimes appearing as male, sometimes as female depending on what Anansi is up to...
It varies a bit by region, but Anansi is most often considered the guardian of folklore and stories.
In certain stories if you treat Anansi with respect and kindness, you will be rewarded with useful information or knowledge, but if you are rude or deceitful, Anansi will trap you.

In some stories in the American south, Anansi was renamed "Old Nancy".

I was putting air in the tires of my lumber cart and this little Anansi was sitting balled up on the rim, I thought she was the cap of the air valve and almost grabbed her... she ran up my arm and I had to leave her there for a while because I was in an awkward position... but she was good and didn't crawl up my armpit and waited patiently for me to put her somewhere safe.

Hopeful tonight I will be granted some revelation of knowledge in my dreams that will help me solve some quandary I've been pondering.

My wife loves spiders, while I am merely indifferent to them. She seriously gets excited when she sees a spider nest in the house, and there's a running joke about the spider stork paying a visit.

My kids think I'm crazy for not killing all the spiders  ,I kinda like them as long as they don't leave webs in the walkways. ..... and stay out of my bed

Spiders are OK, as long as they stay outside where they belong. But when they cross the threshold of my home, that is an act of war and all steps must be taken to eliminate the invaders. Except for those big Australian ones. If one of them came into my house, I would just move. The house would belong to them now.

...ugh, more "buy a bundle to get a better discount" rubbish.  Little else tonight really honours having a Daz+ membership except the BYOB which again is primarily Gen4 and older stuff. .  This is not a proper Daz+ sale.

Don't mind the spiders as long as they don't bother me, but to my surprice my mom has developed a fear of them, even though she should've gotten used to them when they were living in equatorial africa for a few years...

I watch a tiny spider grow up each year, before the weather gets cold.  It, or one just like it, builds a beautiful web right outside, and parallel to, my kitchen window about an inch away from the glass.  I see the bugs get caught and wrapped and dessicated, and snipped out by the satiated and growing arachnid.  A few weeks later it's grown from the size of a BB (like from a BB gun) to about a half inch long.  Ugly black thing it is, but it's perfectly safe out there until I decide my window really needs to be cleaned.  Then its web gets wiped away but a while later it's back.  Never any more than two spiders at my window at any one time.  If two, then one is big and the other tiny, and hiding in a vacant corner.(Probably the male.  I can commiserate.)indecision  But, that's OK, as long as they don't hold parties or invade the house.angry  Sometimes it's gone for weeks and then comes back.  But it's almost always the same species, different from the ones that get into my house.  They get unceremoniously sucked into the vacuum cleaner.devil
