I got a headache. I took a regular generic Tylenol. Might take my migraine pill soon if that doesn't help?
My posts seem to be disappearing quickly, but no emails explaining why?
I just got up from a nap. My headache is pretty much gone. I found my missing post and it was on page 2, of course!
I tend to get thirsty easily, but solving it causes another issue.
Gagh... I think I have the plague... My joints are aching and I feel like a chew toy that's been shaken and tossed around... plus it's raining... one of those chill ya' to the bone coastal rains that already messed up joints just love.
I'm going to go get some Covid test kits before I pick my daughter up from her EMT classes... I really hope it's just the flu.
And of course I had the flu shot a week and a half ago, so I'm not holding out a lot of hope.
I feel like I got the plague too. It is either that or an upset tummy.
..I get a 404 on the link.
..they say inflation is easing but not seeing it at the grocery market. I needed needed just a small can of baked beans to have with a couple hot doggies tonight and saw that the small cans has a higher price than the large ones (of the same brand). I can understand the price for a smaller quantity package being maybe having a small markdown from the larger sized one (like say 2.25$ foe the small package v. 3$ for the large one), but charging more for half as less of he same product doesn't make sense (except maybe to the "bean counters" at the market chain's home office).
we saw a cauliflower priced at $5.99 this week.. and it wasn't a big one..
...the other week the prices of Safeway's deli wrap sandwiches went up by 1.50$
Another thing I'm seeing become more common are those discounts for buying several of the same item, but in small print on teh tag it says you must buy the full quantity, not just one to get the discount.
...ah just over 7 min for the launch of the Artemis rocket to the moon.
LeatherGryphon you tuned in?
Crikey, I feel like a kid again
ETA:
at 00:46 local west coast time, the upper cryogenic propuslion stage had just completed its' TLI burn and separated from the Orion spacecraft and its service module which is now on the way to the moon.
OK bedtime now.
Didn't tune in to the launch. I turn into a pumpkin at 11:17 PM
And on the grocery front..., I've been noticing that I have great difficulty walking to the store with only one (prepurchased) cloth bag and getting away from the store for less than $50. A year ago I'd bring two bags and they'd usually fill up for a total of about $75.
I've been getting my canned goods via Amazon. I watch for a bargain on peas, carrots, spinach, lima beans, pears, peaches, apricots, mandarin oranges, etc. And have recently noticed that the price of some low quality store brand canned goods on the shelf in the store is more than buying a 12-can flat of high quality Delmonte, Dole, or Hormel via Amazon. I already pay for Amazon Prime service so I choose the catalog offerings that give Prime free-shipping. I've got a stack of 12-can flats in my pantry that will last 'till Spring.
Complaint: It's my birthday in a couple days and I haven't bought anything to surprise myself with. I can't afford to. I've been trying to keep my Amazon, NewEgg, doctor, and hospital bills paid. Somehow I keep ending up $300 in the hole by time the next Social Security deposit arrives. However, this month, if I don't get myself a b'day present, I should finally be all caught up. Just in time for Christmas.
Non-complaint: I can't complain about not splurging near my birthday. I've been splurging for the last three years and now my computer toys are all bought(Wheee), so it's time to give my credit cards a rest.
Yes, I have station force-feeds a Tatian. Speaks dictation doesn't always understand me. I don't know what the first sentence mean. I had to delete a sentence. As it doesn't make any sense. I wonder how I can teach this so I can make your mistakes.
Non-complaint: While cleaning out my refrigerator, there, way in the back, behind the festering mayonaise and mouldering catsup, was a 750ml bottle of French "Veuve Clicquot Brut" Champagne that I had bought as a gift last year for a very special occasion that didn't occur. I'd forgotten about it. I have no invitations to Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner this year, so I think on my birthday I'll have a private mid-afternoon celebration of shrimp cocktail, pickled artichoke heart hors d'oeuvres, and my Champagne (yes, with a capital "C", Wheee) None of the people I know around here, go in for champagne (whether "c" or "C"), prefering beer or smoke instead. God, I miss being in a big city with lots of upper middle class gay friends who could appreciate such a treat.
I especially enjoy champagne now, because at this point in my life I have the proverbial "Champagne taste on a beer budget" and usually settle once or twice a year for the much less prestigious and significantly cheaper, "Korbel Brut" domestic champagne that is a good middle ground between the sparkling dishwater at the bottom of the scale and the way overpriced bubbly at the top. I've tasted some of the over-the-top brands, and the taste isn't much better. But perhaps, they are a bit smoother, or less sharp/bitter without being sweet. But not enough to be worth $100+ per bottle.
Why would you want to make my mistakes? I don't even want to make those!
Dana
Thank you for the laugh. Sometimes I feel like I make too many mistakes and misturns in life.
Edit: sometimes I feel like your mistakes are better than mine. Huh? I mean my mistakes are very bad, but yours is not as bad.
Wow. I really dropped the ball with Windows Music Player. I have no idea as to what half of these tracks are ^^'Although something tells me that they'll all be updated - Fuelled by OCD, no doubt. I don't why I'm bothering. The laptop has crashed twice this evening, and they're getting more frequent :/
On the plus side, I've caught up on quite a few jobs this evening.
Ooh... I really hope that program goes on sale on Black Friday.
... And that's Youtube ruined.
* Laptop has now crashed three times this evening... Urgh....
Complaint: SNOW! At least six inches of it and still falling. An excellent example of Lake Effect Snow. The forecast said rain. The last snow a few days ago was only a couple inches and melted before noon. This looks like it could last.
Non-Complaint: I have no car to worry about. I don't need to go anywhere today (or tomorrow). The town seems on the ball and is keeping the streets clear. Our furnace is working well. I have lots of food. The water pipes are not frozen. Nobody is launching bombs into my country. "All good things".
Complaint: I just remembered the rest of that saying.
https://www.cnn.com/2022/11/17/weather/new-york-northeast-snowstorm-thursday/index.html
Map below shows the snow area. I live in the purple area between Buffalo and Erie. The 12" to 18" area.
Non-complaint; Still no snow, temperatures hovering at about freezing and they are predicting warmer weather next week. Usually the permanent snow cover comes around/after christmas, but I probably need to change to studded tires within the next two weeks, not to give the eager persons in blue any reason to reward me with a ticket.
Ha! It looks like bought this memory just in time. The price has now gone back up to $94. I'm glad I got it when I did.
Non-complaint: Leather! New outfit for G9 https://www.daz3d.com/the-kings-guard-outfit-for-genesis-9 Love it! Wheee... hot lookin' leather. I'd totally wear that style myself (sans swords & pistols) while navigating the halls of a busy airport and watch the people get out of my way. (*snicker, snicker *). I've sold several pieces of my 40 year leather collection but I still have a closet (half)full of my biker leathers. Boots, pants, jackets, fringed jackets, fringed chaps, heavy chaps, studded belts, hats, tight gloves, vests... ooh, leather! Be still my beating heart...
Back in my prime (last century) I did fly that way, quite often. But that was back in the day when you didn't have to disrobe in public and subject yourself to fondling by strangers (which I find OK in certain circumstances, but not in an airport) I could keep my metal studded belt on, I didn't have to unlace my boots, and the ornamental chains on the jacket and wallet didn't raise alarms. Dressed like that while sitting in an airport keeps the sheep away and I end up talking to some interesting, open-minded people who aren't intimidated by appearances.
Complaint: Unfortunately, after retirement and loss of access to the gym, my glorious muscular arms, pecs, abs & lats disassembled and migrated to my hips, waist & thighs. Turning me into a pudgy pear shape. Most of my biker leathers are, despite my recent loss of 60 pounds of weight, still a little small for me. Most haven't been worn for 25 years. However, I'm still on a weight loss project and hope to be back into my favorite jacket soon.
@ LeatherGryphon: Are you snowed in? Iheard there could be up to 6 feet of snow in your area
Nope, not snowed in. There's about 7 or 8 inches out there, but according to the latest weather maps, this part of the county is just outside (south of) the stream of snow coming from Lake Erie. However, Buffalo and the stretch on the eastern shore of the lake, west of the hills a few miles inland will get clobbered.
That would be real trouble for me...I'm only 5'6"!

Reminds me of the time I visited the basement of US embassy in Moscow a quarter of a century ago, although I did get something resembling a smile from the security officers when the pile I unloaded from my pockets was half a foot high and I placed a small adjustable spanner on top of the pile and said "I think that was all"...
Had to leave work early today as they predicted snow on Sunday, all day long and didn't have time tomorrow to change the tires. Took an hour but got it done before it got dark.
Non-complaint: Wheee... The Metro in Washington DC, now runs all the way to Dulles Airport about 30 miles northwest of DC. I used to live in Reston, VA which is about half way along the route to the airport, but back then the Metro didn't come out that far. They were talking about extending the Metro to the airport 30 years ago, but it's finally happened.
Complaint: I don't live in Reston or DC anymore and have no reasons to fly to DC anymore either. So, no airport Metro trips in my future.
That reminds me of the time I found myself repremanded and sent to the basement of the US Capitol Building after being intercepted by a Capitol Guard informing me that tripods are not permitted on Capitol grounds without a permit. I turned on my sad face and succeeded in getting him to escort me down to the "caves" under the Capitol to the office that issues tripod permits. I had to have a tripod because I was taking a set of 32 photographs that would be stitched into a complete spherical image. All would have been good except for the fact by time I'd gotten my permit, it was raining cats & dogs when I went back out onto the west portico to take my photo. So, no photo that day. However, the trip into hidden places under the Capitol was illuminating and fascinating. Wheee... it was an adventure.
Energy crisis is finally starting to kick in because my 24 month power plan expired at the end of August. The only new plan I could get was either one that followed market price or a quarterly one. I picked the latter because it was "only" 15 cents/kWh for September. It was still a huge price increase from the previous 5 cents/kWh plan. Of course they now raised the price to 35 cents/kWh for the last quarter... and I expect it to get even worse for the first quarter of next year because, you know, it's only the coldest quarter of entire year.
My October's power bill was 400€ even with two heat pumps running, and we didn't even have more than a few days below zero. For this month it's going to be like 500€ and the temperature still barely dipped below zero.
I hate to think what it's going to be once/if we hit the -15 to -30 days because at that point the heat pumps provide barely any extra heat from air...
Especially if the energy prices go further up.
Also further complaint. Our gov is planning to compensate some of the costs as a tax break for those of us who have a decent salary by using a system already in place which is meant for home improvements (yes, you can get a tax break for those). The thing is that it's for the period of january to april and the cost must exceed 2000€ but can be no greater than 6000€ and it only covers the cost of electricity itself, not the grid fee. Also they first deduct 100€ from it (because why not) and after that you are eglible for compensation of 60% of the total cost but only up to 2400€ for some reason...
Where does the remainder go? I guess you can split it with your spouse like in the normal system... except if you live alone in which case you are limited to that 2400€ even if you end up paying the maximum 6000€.
Of course this only applies to folks if they have high enough taxable income to actually benefit from it. If not the gov has your back by covering anything over 400€... well, 60% of anything over 400€ and... only up to 1500€. That is up to 660€/month so up to 2640€ for fourt months.
I mean I guess they could have made the system even more complicated if they had really tried...
Edit: Forgot to mention that they are also considering reducing the electricity sales tax from 24% to 10% temporarily but it's anyone's guess if the power companies actually transfer this to prices... and again it's sales only, not the grid fee.
Nah, I don't long for a time that only exists in memory, I'd rather focus on today and tomorrow!
