The sad part is that the picture is already obsolete. Nowadays Smartphones take their descendents to the museum and tell them "Our ancestors had buttons!"

  • Today's sale is just the stuff I didn't want in yesterday's sale, but at much higher prices.

Was there any new stuff or have they run out !

Anyone here who knows where I can buy a time-gate? I have an unmet need to go visit the 80s. They're home.

I do time machine repairs... but parts are hard to find. You have to cobble them together from other crap... I don't know how Spock did it in the roaring twenties, but it's hard to fashion a Temporal Interphase Modulator out of Xerox machine and medical centrifuge parts, nowadays... and obviously those didn't exist in the twenties... And just try finding a replacement for vintage a 1886 K.C. Möller analog Zeitlicher Phasenmodulator dial housing anywhere in this timeline...

But, yeah... I've been trying to find the guy (though I'm not sure that applies to a Hoovash) who used to sell used sell ancient Gvnoolivk "time machines"... in Canal street NYC, back in the 80s -90s...

Those might be more what you are looking for... they allow you to visit past timestreams, but not interact... less easy to mess up the present or get lost in a divergent fork... They give you really bad headaches and your bones may dissolve (something about calcium instability) if you you them too much... though I'm not sure what species the "too much" applies to... humans are are generally pretty obscure on the charts and left out of most health and safety warnings...

Anyway, if I can find that guy, a Gvnoolivk unit is your best bet... they are pretty much straight forward point and shoot, right out of the box (they don't actually come in boxes) and even though they are at least a million years old, most work pretty good and nobody hardly ever gets transpragulated... mostly... well, not that often and the super diarrhea can be cured really easy. If you are okay with spinal shots... but the great thing is they don't require any understanding of quantum physics or temporal analytics... you just monkey about with the dials and "bam"you are in the 80s... actually not "bam", because if you hear "bam", you'll pretty much have to have a replacement skeleton ready and waiting... which I'm pretty sure isn't a thing.

Anyway, they are totally, mostly safe if you aren't concerned with transpragulation or quantum neuroparasites...

I forgot to mention those... I don't think humans get those... mostly it's problem with those mushy symbiotic fungus beings (Drucnrvk... ? Eh.. I can't pronounce, spell or remember half the species out there) and those groovy slime mold dudes (ain't even gonna try and spell that one, but you know who I mean)... (or probably not)...

The Gvnoolivk dealies are very affordable too, if I come across one I'll let you know... If you do find one online, make sure it looks like the brass and bronze thing in the background on the left side of this picture... but it has to have cobalt glass spheres on the emitter, not copper... you don't want to mess with those...

If he really is "only" using the standard account, then why is his computer infected with ransomware?  Something in this story smells like a rotten fish in Denmark.  Investigate, and leave no stone unturned.  And that phone call is going to be super-double-extra long.  I mean, really...here's a guy who got himself infected with a standard account.  That SHOULD be impossible.

Well, I suspect the long phone call part is right.  Because he called me while he was disconnecting it and reported a problem.  I'd forgotten that he now has a AIO (All-In-One) system (nice, big touch screenyes) and it only has three wires out the back.  Power, USB printer, and network.  Keyboard/mouse is wireless.  His reason for the call was that when he disconnected one of the wires his phone went dead.frown  He plugged it back in and called me.  I scratched my head on that one with him for a while trying to get him to describe the wires and the problem.  Finally had him try it again and as I suspected nothing happened.  But during the process I had to describe to him what the power cable would look like.surprise  I feel sorry for him because he's many years older than me and I've got him crawling under his desk.  But at least he's small and fits under there.smiley

As for the virus infection.  I'm not so sure that it's a full on ransomwear type.  I think it's just a minor malware scare tactic that has attached itself to something in his personal browser links.  Regardless I'm not good at remote diagnosis or helpdesk type of assistance.   I get frustrated too quickly with the technically challenged.  So, I won't know what his problem is until I see it.  I'm not really enthusiastic about getting back into the business of cleaning up other people's messes again.  But a little extra cash would be nice.

Bad thing is; yesterday was cold and rainy but this morning there is three  inches of icy snow on the ground and in my driveway.  And it's still snowing.  I'm glad I'm not the one having to clear off the car and drive.indecision

There is never a perfect protection.  I think I've read that there are some new attacks that don't go the route that anti-virus can even see coming.  There are things that require the patches that Microsoft puts out to be installed, in order to be safe from them.  Let's face it, anti-virus software has been around for many years.  The very intelligent, but evil, persons doing these things have started to figure out ways around that software.  Plus, the software needs to be updated when they detect a new threat.  but that means the threat is out there, doing its job, before the update is created.  And these updates are not all done at the same moment.  Some companies are slower to create a fix, and it depends on the threat...different anti-virus anti-malware softwares are the first.  They all catch up, but you can never tell which one will be first.  Honestly, an image can be hosting somethign these days.  How many images do we see on a daily basis, on every site on the net?

This is why I posted about that patch for Windows 7.  It was not my intent to say you should upgrade to Windows 10, KK, but that if you don't at least apply the patch, you're looking for trouble, and it will find you.  Eventually, though, they will stop putting out patches for Windows 7.  At that time, the only safe Windows 7 computer will be one that is disconnected from the Internet.

As I suspected my client's "virus" problem was just an adware/malware issue with his web browser that had added a browser extension.  His Norton noticed it and silenced it and threw up a big red "Avoid This Page" type of warning (but didn't remove it) while I was testing his browsers.  He also has the free (non-automatic) version of MalwareBytes on that system but never runs it despite my advice to run it manually periodically.  I ran MalwareBytes and it found it and removed it.yes

And as I suspected, it was a devil that he had invited into his house via an advertisement for some free popup prevention tool.  I tell people, "Ignore the advertisements on the sides of web pages!"  but the temptation is too great and they give in to the sales pitch.sad  I'm running full Norton scan and other system diagnostics but all seems perfectly normal.

So far, the problem hasn't returned.  I think I squashed it.indecision  $30 please.

...the "zero day" patches I have no issue with.  It's having to deal with W10's force fed feature updates (and bugs they often include) as well as other "rubbishware" that I don't need or want.  The only way around that is to go with Enterprise LTSC but that is an expensive option as I need 5 licences for only two systems.

Why couldn't they just release a base version of the OS without all the associated crap and conditions tacked on?

If only Daz fully supported Linux, I'd go that route.
