    no fresh pickings.

Yes, we have no fresh pickings today.

That uses "I'm Bringing Home My Baby Bumblebee" melody but I don't know which came first.

I think that bumblebee song is rather recent.  Yes, We Have No Bananas was written in 1923, by Frank Silver and Irving Cohen .  I remember seeing Jimmy Durante sing that song on TV when I was a kid.  It was alredy quite old then.

From Ireland?surprise  Oh, must be a green tea.  Are Leprechauns involved in any way in its production or contents?devil

is gas prices going up?  that could be why food prices going up.  yeesh.  a few things better to pick up at target, like dish sponges

    Regular costs 6 USD/gal here.

I remember being in Korea when gas prices were at their peak back home in America, and marveling at how much less they were paying for gas....before realizing that the prices were per LITER, not per GALLON.

..the same case in Hawai'i when I was back there in the late 80s.  At first we thought," wow petrol is really cheap here" until we saw the small letters on the signs that said "Ltr."

....would be a more appropriate gesture if it was Coca Cola™, Budweiser™, or a Big Mac™.

Indeed fuel prices do affect grocery prices as fuel is used to ship goods.

...it is already 100° at about half past 10 this morning. Looking at a blistering 115° today.

Last night at midnight it was still 91°. Lots of "broken record shards" laying around after the last few days here. .

As the state still has restrictions on indoor seating, most places simply closed up until Tuesday. One would Think they would have relaxed them early given the emergency situation, I mean what difference would two or three days make?. They have allowed cinemas to open fully (where you sit next to each other) but not about to go cinema hopping at 11$ -15$ a pop (and that doesn't include refreshments, even a small bottle of water is 2$ - 3$). Besides, not much out there right now that is even remotely interesting.

...yeah, I liked them, and yes a sad situation indeed.  Portland could really deal with a "rainy day Monday" right now.  Three minutes before noon and 109° in the 'hood already with 5 hours to go (16:30 to 17:00 is usually the warmest part of the day).

Going to be 20° cooler tomorrow, as if 95° can be considered "cool".  Whenever it finally gets back down into the 70s and 80s it's going to feel morel like fall in comparison.

Complaint: My Doctor is 25 minutes late for our phone appointment. Knowing him, I'll be waiting another ten minutes or longer.

Non-complaint: Waiting at home is so much nicer than waiting in a waiting room.

AC is very nice. I'm glad I have it. I hope my neighbors have it too. It's going to be another hot one, with the forecast predicting 110. The forecast also says the high should drop by nearly twenty degrees tomorrow, back down to the nineties. Never thought I'd be happy to see temps in the 90s.

...what we are experiencing here is what is known as a "heat dome" (sort of the opposite of a "polar vortex") which is created by an anomaly in the jet stream where it forms an "Ω" pattern causing what is referred to as an Omega Block which traps heat within the area.  The "thicker" the dome, the hotter it gets as warm air cannot escape and sinks to the surface creating the extreme temperatures we are seeing.  What I can gather from the jetstream forecast model, the stream will will flatten out over the next day or two so the dome will dissipate rather than move east.

Temps in Great Lakes over the next 10 days (Milwaukee) will be fairly normal for July, 70s and low 80s.

Cirrently 111° (43.9°) here in the 'hood with a "real feel" of 116° (46°)  If the humidity stays the same when we reach the forecast high, it will feel like 123° (46°C).

The dual window fan setup I ordered (back at the original price again after the "sale", imagine that) should be here by tomorrow so even though the worst of the heat will be over (for now) it will still come in very handy as it's going to be in the 90s through the 4th.

...so I remember Newegg as primarily a "electronics and computer" store for us geeks.  Just received an email from them hawking auto parts and accessories.  Sounds like they're becoming a Net version of JC Whitney.

ETA: Shutting down the system for the day so it doesn't blow up because of the heat.  May be back much later tonight.

There might have been some idea in my ancient ancestors coming up here (north of latitude 60) afterall... The temperature variance stays between -30C and +30C (-22F to 86F), but then again no matter where a finn goes, one of the first things he does is building a sauna... The locals in equatorial Africa had hard time understanding my father for building one laugh

now I'm looking for a flash thumb drive to host my third backup of art projects.  I can remove the thumb drive after I backup the text, Bryce and Gimp files.

...well the last day of the Portland Inferno.  Reached 115° officially but the temperatures are finally cooling off much faster than the last two days.  Already "just" 91° in the 'hood right now (that was the temperature at midnight last night)..Tomorrow's high may seem downright liveable even though it will still be in the mid 90s. More "relief" next week as it will get down to the mid 80s.

Salem 50 miles to the south had an all time record high of 117°.Suerprised the "blancmange" on the top of the Capitol building didn't melt.

...woah, down into the upper 70s already (that was our low early this [Monday] morning).  Supposed to end up in the mid 60s tonight, may finally open the window a bit later after several days.
