holy moly great balls of fire
did someone anger the gods? 118, does not compute
whats the degrees water boils at?
I believe that's 212F.
Dana
No. Watt is a measure of power not temperature.
i walked all the way up to cactus grill. over a mile. turns out they didnt surive the shutdown.
only mexican place i known to advertise no msg.
my leg is spazzing. not painful but is uncomfy. prolly need potassium
my wishlist isn't shrinking. holding steady. seems i add something new every time i buy one off it. not a good strategy.
My wishlist keeps getting bigger, despite knocking things off it on a regular basis. Over 500 now. Might have to do something about it soon... It would help if I wasn't so d***** impressionable. Every time someone says "This is cute," about a product, it ends up on my WL. If I see a render with a Koi pond, a bunch of Koi ponds end up on my wishlist. Same with getting pizza after seeing a pizza commercial. At least I can eat the pizza.
my w/l is filling up with impractical skimpwear up to 27 things now.
i've mopped up on all the pc stuff, everything left is over 10 bux
forced myself to stay awake all day, so i can sleep thru the night and get back to a normal schedule for working.
eyelids ready to slam shut. no more staying up til 2 waiting for the fresh batch of 1.99s
tho if i happen to wake around 2, will deffnitly check
its like waking up christmas morning.
It's not overcompensating if it turns out you need it one day.
Those crazy San Franciscans!
Many places did not survive. The US lost over 1 million businesses during 2020 and early 2021.
...well the new official record high for Portland is now 108° which will last until tomorrow with 115°. Fortunately I was with my gaming group in a nice air conditioned cellar. When we stepped outside afterwards it felt like walking behind a jet with its engines running save for there was little wind.
Even the normally cooler coast won't be a place to find relief as several towns there are expecting highs of 100 or more (Astoria with 100° and Pacific City with 105°).
ETA: 20:30 and it finally dropped below 100° (98°). My apartment feels like an "Easy Bake Oven™ even though I had all the windows closed and blinds shut all day with the ceiling fan running.. Rendering is definitely off the agenda for the next several days CPU is at 48° and GPU is 44° just having Gmail and the forums open. Usually the CPU is in the low 30s and GPU the mid 30s with such a light load.
...yeah, many places here in Portland shutterd for good, including a number of long time local "icons".
Several places in this area (extreme western NY State) are gone. My local (5 miles west of me) Chinese takeout, the local magazine store, the local "Dollar" type store that I frequented, and many other's that I noticed were shuttered but I can't name them all. Of course Sears, Bon-Ton & Ruby Tuesday's are gone and the already nearly dead mall that they were in is practically a ghost town. But even JC Penney's (the remaining anchor store in the mall) closed for a long time but now I've heard that they're back. In the next town (5 miles east of me) there's a little breakfast/lunch diner that closed for a long time. But just yesterday I saw an ad in the local free "PennySaver" circular that said they were open again! So, perhaps the weekly ritual of breakfast with someone at "Vern's" in Randolph, NY will again be in my schedule. Yay!
Non-complaint: Still amazed at my continuing weight loss. Down another 0.2 pounds today. I'd kept crude notes about my weight for the last several weeks and finally found all those scraps of paper and plotted them on a graph and the upshot of it is that for about a month I've been losing, on average, 0.2 pounds (90g) per day. Last month I was in in the middle 230s (~106Kg). What's my secret? I stopped munching, and I have smaller, less entertaining, meals. And despite being a rooted couch potato I've lost weight. Either that or I've got some deadly disease consuming my body.
No, you just have your geek gene running away with your brain. It's okay, but we're your friends, so we'll he'p you back to earth.
So .2 pounds of body weight... let's call it "wet" body weight (because that will elicit the most frightening stories and anecdotes from MacGyver, right?) is 3.2 ounces; not even a third of a glass of water. Did you miss your morning water today? Or maybe you were dehydrated all night and still haven't caught up yet? Do you even KNOW how much water loss you can have just sleeping and breathing it out through condensation?
3.2 ounces...this is a rounding error. I say keep up with the monthly (or even weekly) weigh-ins. But you of all people know, because of your mathematical, computing, and statistics backgrounds, that weighing yourself every day will cloud the long-term trend with the vagaries of yesterday and today. And it's the long term trend that you're most interested in, yes?
And inactivity will eventually turn that near-term trend around. You know that too, right?
There ya go...feet back on Terra Firma? Go drink a glass of water, you'll thank me!
Aw, you're no fun anymore!
...10:45 and already 95° here. Need to find someplace to go that has AC but the restrictions on sitting indoors at places like coffee shops, cafes, and pubs and won't be lifted until Wednesday. Several libraries are open as locations for us older folks to go to but they're all out in the burbs. The central library in the city centre where many seniors live is still closed. The only place is open to get out of the heat is the convention centre but nothing is going on there (at least the library has books & stuff to occupy one's time with). Actually thought about taking the LRT to the airport and sitting at a coffee shop there watching aeroplanes. (closer and easier to get to than any of the suburban libraries) but not sure if staying there too long might not appear "suspicious".
Yeah, going to shut down the system soon so it doesn't blow up.
hot hot hot no laughing at al gore's power point presentation now
i have to work on an excel speradsheet and a word mail merge. once i get started it'll be fine, but gettting started is a chore.
more 1.99s today?
...all the 1.99s are 2.99s today (the usual on a kvetchup weekend), unless you're a PC member, then their 2.69s.
no fresh pickings.
holy moly, my grocery bill came to 120. twice the usual. what the heck is happening? god doesnt want me to eat?
Yes, we have no fresh pickings today.
It is in the 100s here right now, but I think yesterday was even hotter, because yesterday the house was warmer around this time by almost nine degrees. Everyone nearby is sold out of ice, but slushies and ice cream can still be had. Luckily I have window units in the bedrooms, so we can all stay cool most of the time.
The sale today is okay. I got some stuff I've been wanting that doesn't go on sale often. I just wish those items were 2 dollars instead of the 5-7 I paid. Yes, I have been completely spoiled by the PCFAD section.
I just discovered that Peacock streaming has Below Deck available to watch for free. I'm not going to be very productive for a while as a result. I love that show. I had better start at least testing these new products while I watch. How hard can it be?
@LeatherGryphon Congrats on your weight loss! I keep meaning to start a diet. Maybe one day soon.
is gas prices going up? that could be why food prices going up. yeesh. a few things better to pick up at target, like dish sponges
You're blaming inflation on who now?
