Rendered in Octane, 1000 samples, ~ 11 minute render time.
Pool is Dream Home: Yard and Pool scaled up to 300% on the x and z axis and re-textured.
Very nice!
CHEERS!
Here's another one of Darius, with different sun sky lighting:
Now I know how to do skydomes in Iray, I can use these in combination with sun sky to light my outdoor scenes. Well, when I have outdoor scenes to light that is, LOL!
CHEERS!
Very nice lighting, you are getting better.
Yeah, slowly,
I've learned that I just need to google for info, glean what I need and not comment in the thread it came from. I now think that I can get skydomes and sun sky to provide what I need. I am contemplating getting that Strix next week as I'm eager to move on to complete scenes. I've had enough of just standing a character there, I want them to have things to interact with and the kind of scenes I have in mind will require more firepower than a CPU can muster.
CHEERS!
Don't let this thread die!!
From my gallery (products listed there): http://www.daz3d.com/gallery/#images/89888/
While I was quite enthused with Iray at first, I'm still having fun with 3delight.
There's no danger of this thread dying!
When I looked at the Iray documentation, it said to tie the glossy reflectivity in with the IOR. I was wondering if you could tie the scatter amount in with the translucency weight, and, well, it seems to work. Here are Bjorn, Boris and Darius with this applied:
In terms of the transmitted colour I went into Photoshop and looked up the colours with the colour picker. I used the colour for each and every body part and this also seems to have paid off. As there are different settings for different body parts, you can't just have one shader preset for everything. You can, of course, have a MAT, which is what I'll do when I can sort out the teeth.
CHEERS!
PS (I know you keep seeing Boris and Darius a lot, well, it's easier to test stuff on just two rather than keep setting up a whole load from scratch every time. Once you know the set up, then you can do more and with ease.)
Those are nice results you are getting! If I were to look for something wrong I would say the skin looks too dry and the eyes maybe too liquid; but everything else is great! I'm waiting to see you working with female skins.
Out of curiosity, I loaded the scene I rendered above and made a quick switch over to Iray using the Sun-Sky option. I let D|S handle shader conversion. According to my Task Manager, setting the viewport render mode to Iray put RAM usage with four figures, clothing, hair, accessories, and the environment at 6 GB. That's just barely doable on my computer and simply not possible on my older NVidia mobile GPU with only 2 GB RAM. While there was a certain "look" to the lighting that seemed more "real," everything else in the scene looked worse. I think I'm going to have to save Iray for simpler scenes that can really benefit from using it.
Regarding the dry skin, not really. That's the trap a lot of people fall into and they have skin that looks like the figure fell in a vat of baby oil. Normal human skin just isn't like that. There is some shine on what is known as the T zone, above the eyes and down the nose, and maybe some on the forehead, but, that really is about it. African head skin can be quite shiny, but, the rest isn't by comparison. My settings for top coat weight on the head are 0.75 and top coat roughness of 0.60. On the body, top coat weight is 0.55 and top coat roughness is 0.65. Very little difference really. You set the top coat layering to weighted to get the right effects. Another thing that can vary the appearance of shine is of course lighting, some will bring it out more than others.
As regards the female figures, well, to fit in with the TOS and look nice, they need clothes and hair and I'll get round to them when I have my new graphics card and more products.
CHEERS!
The poor results you're experiencing with the figures are because the shaders aren't set up properly. The default DS Iray shader you get with V7 is way off and the settings are completely wrong as are the MAT's provided for G2. You really have to forget everything you ever learned with 3Delight and learn how to set up PBR shaders. If you google settings on the forums, you will find a lot of conflicting information and it's very easy to lose your way. I have by no means found it either.
I'm hoping that Mec4D will release something with all the shaders properly set up so everyone will have a decent jumping off point. Do not expect to get decent results from PA's that have constantly worked with 3Delight. Cath has nearly 10 years experience with PBR's and I'd trust her work over anyone else's right now.
CHEERS!
Just testing instances in iray and the light setup from:
http://www.daz3d.com/iradiance-light-probe-hdr-lighting-for-iray
Interesting, you can probably use some of the old lightprobes from Mec4D's sets with those. I think DS also came with some, as did Poser. There is a program I have called HDR Shop which creates them. They're good for studio set up's but I'm not sure about them for exterior stuff.

Looks good,
You should get these: http://www.daz3d.com/mec4d-pbs-shaders-vol-1-for-iray
CHEERS!
I was trying to create fake moonlight *Nudity* http://fav.me/d9c96cm
I tried going back to lux painful but there is suppose to be an update soon..
...indeed.
...those are on the wishlist for when I either win a GC in a challenge and/or get some extra funds
...a patch already? Crikey I haven't even installed 4.1 yet.
Not yet he says its being tested. I started using it again on the weekend again. I like the way lux produces results over iray in some cases. Right now I am using both. I do see the speed increase in some cases.
Yeah, that's something I want to try and do too, I'm sure there's a night setting for sun sky, though I haven't figured it out yet.
CHEERS!
You want to see a promo render where it's more than the watermark that tells you what render engine it was done in.
CHEERS!
3 of the same character ( the last remaining character i use genesis 1 for. I need to switch her to g2f one of these days)
Looks great,
I'm still waiting for my Strix, hopefully, it should arrive some time today....
CHEERS!
Well, the Strix is up and running,
I had already set up a test render for it to do. Nothing different from earlier tests save for a tache from Unshaven. The Strix rendered it in 4m 9sec and the iterations were in quad figures! I am over the moon!! CPU alone, without the tache took over 20 mins and the iterations only ever hit 3 figures. This thing ROCKS!!!
CHEERS!
Lux continues to fail but still use it for the odd render this is iray http://fav.me/d9drji4
Looks great,
You will see a load of different stuff from me now. The sky is pretty much the limit now.
CHEERS!
Thanks its slowly getting better anyhoo here is a lux render http://fav.me/d9drjtu
I can't tell that from an Iray one, I'd find what you really like and stick with it.
CHEERS!
I am glad, you got that graphic card, Rogerbee.
I have spent too much on Daz3D and the other assets, so no new graphic card for me anytime soon.
