I got lucky there, I found a site offering it for over £20 cheaper than anywhere else was. It was a gamble, but it paid off. I could have waited till the new year, but, the offer was too good to pass up.
CHEERS!
Great, so now you can render more complicated scenes in iray.
Will be checking this thread even more often, to see a new renders from you, then.
http://fav.me/d9e15x5 I am glad I got one too since Reality is borked..
Yes, well, I need to get the items I want for the scenes first. That might take a while.....
CHEERS!
Great stuff as usual.

...yeah, a new GPU would be nice, but for now I can manage. I just set up my big render sessions to go overnight and there are a few tricks I've learned to maximise the amount of system resources available.
BTW here is the latest. About 4 hours "and change" at 1,600 x 1,200 (wish Daz gave you the complete render specs after the job is complete like Carrara and Bryce do).

That looks good and I like the train exhaust from the left hand train.
A few questions though.
If the train on the left is moving away aren't the two girls running in the wrong direction if they are trying to keep pace with it?
Have you tried the Bloom Filter to see if it will give some atmosphere around the station lights?
Is there a ghost tree above the third light on the right or is it just cloud formation?
...this is still a "proof just to see how the scene rendered with all the characters.
I used a Jepe's SteamZ prop for the exhaust. Watched several videos of Thumpers to figure out what would look best.
The two teens are actually running for the train that is arriving on the other track (having heard it's horn). I could turn and re-pose "Annie" (the punk rocker girl who is waving to someone else already on the bridge) to be waving at the two on the opposite side to hurry up.
Actually for the lights I have a few other things I'd like to try as I learned a lot more about Iray lighting since I originally created the setting (this has bene a "long" WIP). I did try using the bloom filter on my night time London Street scene but it only seemed to affect one of the lights.
Took a closer look and yes, it kind of appears so, but I don't know where it would have come from as it is not part of the set and I used a Skies of Economy HDRI (which has no ground or horizon imagery) with the dome set to infinite. I'll have to do a test render of just the HDRI dome and see if it is indeed part of the clouds.
The two teens looked like they were running along keeping pace with the train so they could wave to their friends on the train for longer![smiley smiley](http://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/regular_smile.png)
I found that the Bloom Filter is affected by the Firefly Filter and I had to set the Luminance to a high number to get some lights working.
It's a great looking render. I'm hoping that Stonemason does an Iray update for his Streets of London. I know future releases will have it anyway. It'll be nice to have a set that does then it can be used as shader presets for other ones. I really must buy some more environments. I think the HDRI environments are fine for vehicles, but, you still get 'uncanny valley' when you put figures in them. I prefer physical enviroments where everything gels and nothing looks out of place.
Jack Tomalin and Stonemason will be my go to guys when they release newer stuff...

In Daz Studio you can also get some more information after the job is complete if you open the log file.
Just scroll down to the end of it, and you will find details about the last render.
For example:
Total Rendering Time: 47 minutes 44.14 seconds
Iray INFO - module:category(IRAY:RENDER): 1.0 IRAY rend info : Device statistics:
Iray INFO - module:category(IRAY:RENDER): 1.0 IRAY rend info : CPU (8 threads): 581 iterations, 41.030s init, 2812.352s render
This bloom filter is totally crazy. Below is Arabella 7 rendered with default settings of this filter.
Mmm, you might have overdone it a bit there. Your avatar agrees with me, LOL!
CHEERS!
LOL yeah I am getting pretty good at matching my iray & lux renders lux http://fav.me/d9e15z3
iray http://fav.me/d9e15zv
...well the train on the track they are next to is actually heading in the other direction from the way they are running in (hence the red lights). In the UK, trains run in the opposite direction than they do here in the US (just like street taffic). Again, I watched a number of videos of UK train (and Thumper) operations whoile putting this together. The set has the trains on the "American" side by default. I had to change the signals and signage over to the other side as well.
In daylight, a bloom or halo effect around light soruces in a light fog or mist is not as noticable as it is during dusk/dawn and after dark.
Just toying with morphs and textures and I really like this guy:
I have yet to work on the inner mouth and teeth, but, when I have, I'll save him and he'll feature in future scenes.

I live in Scotland so I knew that but on first seeing the image I checked the train direction and it still came across that the girls were running in the wrong direction as they appear to be looking at the train on their side. The illusion projected in the image, to me, obviously isn't what you were trying to convey now that you have explained it. The Bloom was more to soften the lights as they do appear to be a very bright white where I would expect them to be more in the 2200 to 5500 range depending on the bulb used, Mercury Halide being more blue than Sodium.
Kyoto Kid, I think that looks great! Sure, some details to work out, but it's an awesome scene, nonetheless.![yes yes](http://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/thumbs_up.png)
Hope you don't mind, but I ran your JPEG through PaintShop Pro using Authentec Perfectly Clear and got this result:
Here's my first proper hair test with Iray, it's Guillaume Hair but with a MAT from Unshaven applied to it. I think it looks really good, it matches the eyebrows and of course it will match any facial hair I add to it:
It took 15 mins to render, which I don't think is bad at all considering it's fibermesh hair. God alone knows how long it would have taken with just the CPU, I never wanted to find out, which is why they've been bald up until now. More hair is next on the list for Wednesday...
CHEERS!
Yea, I find that iRay handles quickly rendering transparencies faster but something like Fibermesh hair with no transparencies (most of the time) is a god send for anyone using 3Delight as their primary rendering engine.
...that looks like one of my tests with the volumetric fog turned off
Oddly, I always found fibermesh hair took longer for 3Delight to render than Iray did. I actually prefer fibermesh hair and think it looks more realistic.
CHEERS!
Perhaps if the foreground parts of the scene had more contrast, then the fog effect wouldn't have made the scene so uniformly "grey." I think a render holds up better for post processing if there is already a full range of brightness in it. Then a final application of Curves in post can make things pop. In this case, atmospheric perspective would help make backgound elements fade into the fog, but not the foreground.
Kyoto's image portrays what we in Scotland would term as a Grey Day. It isn't exactly misty nor is the rain heavy enough to see it is just grey.
..thank you evilproducer and Fishtales. .
We also have a lot of days (or used to before this year) like this in Portland where I live. Like Fishtales mentions, the rain is so fine it is almost a light mist that really doesn't create a true fog like effect, but just gets everythng wet.
I've seen days like that, I think you got it just right.
CHEERS!
Here is a hair and beard test for Darius. It's here where I feel he got really short changed. There are hardly any decent hair products out there for him and he only got 3 beard styles in Unshaven. If we get Darius 7 then we really need to see this redressed, we need a LOT more hair and he needs an Unshaven pack all to himself. I don't have Omri Hair yet and so I went with Xavior Hair.
It's not the best really and I was so hoping for more. We need some rapper hair, something like Blade, some corn rows and something that really suits him.
CHEERS!
Tried the same MAT on Drifter Hair and WOW! I love this! Look how the hair reacts to the light. You'll see this guy again, you won't guess what he'll be though....
Happy bunny!
