Had a bit of time to kill, so, I thought I'd see what that character would look like with the HD details from Boris dialled in. I like him even more now:

We really need more detail like this that we can add in. There are far too many male characters with textures taken from baby faced male models. We need more regular guys, and some with age and character.

Much more realistic than the usual, well done.   We certainly has a bit of character.

    Thanks!

Pleasingly, it adds character even when dialled at lower levels:

It was dialled to 30% there. I think this works better than displacement maps. I'd love to see what could be done with individual features and not just the whole head like this is.

Now that I more or less can reproduce what I was doing with Lux using iray, Reality is collecting dust.. Perhaps if they resolved their issues   http://fav.me/d9eui6a

Naah, I think everything you've done with Iray is much better lit and it suits your style perfectly.

    Begin pretentious prattling:

Been awhile since I posted anything here. Been lurking because its been very busy at work. I did manage to squeeze in a render for the Carrara Monthly challenge. Since the challenge is now over, I thought I'd share it with a bit wider audience.

    WIP thread:

    http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/62851/carrara-challenge-20-a-room-with-a-view-wip-thread/p1

The challenge theme was a, Room with a View. I called my entry, The View in the Room.

I built the counter in Carrara and did some mesh and shading domain editing to add coffee to the coffee pot, which was from a kitchen appliance freebie DAZ offered a couple years ago. I also modeled the knife and cutting board and created the shaders for them and the counter as well. The breads and cucumber are from Carrara's native content, and the only thing done to them was a little rearranging of the elements in the groups and scaling to better fit the scene.

The image is heavily postworked using Carrara's depth, object index, reflection, refraction, glow, specular and diffuse render passes to add and enhance the various effects in the scene. This was done more for a personal challenge than a challenge requirement or failure to properly set up shaders and light the scene.

Nicely done, however, we can clearly see the dichotomy between the photorealism of everything else and the lack of it in the figure. She stands out a mile. It's going to take time, but, I'm hoping that more work will be done to get the skins more photo real as the current use of shaders, both in Carrara and Iray just isn't cutting it. Daz are letting the side down greatly with the figures. Everything else is coming on in leaps and bounds, except them. DS will never be in line with other PBR apps until some serous work is done with human skin. The technology is all there, it's just the implimentation that isn't.

Mmm, not terribly convincing, but, if that's what they want.

  • Here's a render of Aiko 3, with the procedural shader I originally built for V4. Most of the work was changing the various shaders to match the A3 UVs, and changing some of the scales of the cellular and noise functions. They looked so much larger on A3.

    Looking good,

It's a bit annoying that they roll out G3M and M7 with all the bundles, but they don't release any morphs. You can't do much without them.

Yes, one need to wait for the morphs even longer.

All morphs are in the shop:

    Thanks!

Sorry. I forgot to specify that it is a Carrara render.

They won't even work in the Octane for Carrara plugin, and probably not the Lux plugins either, as I don't think all the procedural functions are supported. If I had Baker, a plugin for Carrara, that "bakes" procedural shaders in Carrara to image maps, then you could load those and set up the parameters for specular, bump, etc. in an external renderer.

Oh, I see, never mind. Now G3 is properly established, maybe someone will write some more shaders for them.

This was a fun experiement with lighting. I used HRDI for the BG then surrounded the cabin with planes to block the bleeding of HRDI due to a ceiling faint light. Using lux would of taken long since the planes would add to render times. I am on a break re organizing my content in custom categories will make life alot easier.      http://fav.me/d9fu5vy

    Looking good,

I'm currently recovering from gall bladder surgery so haven't really felt like doing much.

Shitty I suffer from chronic bladder inflammation with severely reduced capacity not fun...  Another sci fi cockpit interior I like the lights using maps with iray works well. Another that would of prolly taken the better part of a day using lux   http://fav.me/d9fu5x3

I had gall stones and had the gall bladder removed. Hopefully I'll be properly on the mend in time for Christmas.

Good luck to everyone with health wonkiness. :/

  • Sorry to hear about the gallbladder and gall stones. Fortunately I haven't had that problem, but my Mom did. It was hell for her until she had the surgery.

Not in the same ballpark at all, but I just got my first set of progressive glasses a few hours ago. Big adjustment... oof

At my last eye exam it became clear I needed bifocals or progressive lenses, so I tried them (the expensive progressive lenses). I. Hated. Them. With a passion. I then tried trifocals, and they were nearly as bad as the progressive lenses. I finally settled on plain bifocals and a pair of single near-focus glasses for reading and when I use the computer. My eyes and I, are much happier keeping it simple. ;-)

The older you get well you know......  anyhoo prepping for takeoff    http://fav.me/d9fu62d

Redoing my content by categories manually is a long dull proces but will so much better to work with. I like the fact that you can rename it too. So if you have like lets say The Angelina     Angel outfit for v4, instead of having the texture as assassin for Angel I can simply have MAT Angel 1 Mat Angel 2 & so on, seperate my hair, wardrobe, places ect...

Hope you will feel better soon, Rogerbee. All the best for you all.

I have stopped eating butter with sandwiches and using sugar to the tea some years ago, as we speak diets.

Thanks, the enforced low fat diet I was on was no fun at all, I lost more weight than I was comfortable with. Still, once I can eat decent food again that should stabilise again.
