Liana's Creative Corner WIP's :)
Ok...decided to have my own art thread in the hopes I can learn something while I share. I won't limit it to just rendered art, because I am expanding on my modeling skills.
It seems I lose threads even if I click the little star unless someone comments. I am going to bookmark this one so if there gets to be a good discussion on a technique, etc. I can find it. LOL
Added: Thread already very helpful. :D
Tools used in my art: Listed below
Experience: Gimp, Blender - Some, but still learning
Learning: Daz (3Delight and Iray), Bryce, Hexagon, Photoshop, & Corel products, wacom tablet.
Possible others: Cararra
Disclaimer: I do use various different characters, figures, animals, props from other "stores" to add to the variations I can add to my creativity and learning process. I do not promote one place another. I like them all. Thanks :)

Good for you!
If you click the little star, it should turn orange. Now check by clicking the gear icon on the bluish bar at the top of the page, righthand side. You should see an option that says "My Bookmarks"
If you can't find your thread you can select the gear in the upper right corner select your username, then select the gear again, and select "Your threads" and that will list all the threads you've started..
Thank you Sonja!
Ok..I shared this on Lola's thread for the Feb. 4 contest just for fun.:)
I am not totally happy with the lighting. I was hoping to get light from the ceiling light and window. I can't seem to make that happen for some reason. *shrugs* I have set-up a spotlight for her face everything was just too dark otherwise. A distant light near the window hoping for the sun from the window. A linear point light for the ceiling lamp just above. Oh, I did this render in 3delight. I like to throw things together just to experiment. Like changing textures, auto-fitting clothes to figures not made for them, etc. Lots of experimenting on my part so I can learn. I am still working on it, so it is really not finished yet. :D
Here it is in all it's not so glory. lol
That's not bad at all! Its so much fun to experiment!
It's being ornery and only giving me the edit option. I will persevere though thanks! :)
Edit: Old age and blindness. I found the blue gear...duh! Thanks!
Thanks Sonja! It really is and I am only just getting started too. :)
Oh my.. I have not dug all that hard into the little gear thingies too busy learning the other stuff. Thanks Frank!
I think I might have gotten it. I shut off all of my lights. I don't know why I did not think of that first and worked on each one indiviually in my mind's eye how I think/feel the light works under 'real' conditions. It took some tweaking and then turning them all on and then off again. If someone would like me to share settings for light and shadows I can no problem. :)
Add: I keep tweaking the lighting in this render. :)
I was, actually trying to recreate a scene like your's so I could have a practical view to help, but my Content folder just disappeared on me.
Well if I can't get that fix I'll go to the old machine and see what I can do from there, just going to take me longer.
Maybe it's a good thing, I'm terrible at explaining things
Oh my, not fun for you. Eck! I am going to place it on the wip thread for lighting and get some suggestions too. I still think things could be changed, but it is slightly better. lol :)
got my problem fixed,
Oh!?! you have another thread for this ?
BTW I don't have the same products, but similar enough to produce the lighting. will be doing in 3DL, I'm still learning IRAY, and barely have the basics for that
Oh, no I don't but there is a lighting contest going on until Feb 29th a WIP (work in progress) thread where people can post their renders they are working on there and get some suggestions, etc. :)
here's the link: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/70702/february-2016-new-user-3d-art-contest-lighting-wip-thread#latest
I found it helpful and I have been doing some more digging around in the links they shared for lighting info too.
Glad you got your problem fixed. :)
Hi Liana,
still need to add some fill light, but this is the point I have reached so far
using a point light to simulate the light in the room, and shadows coming from that
used a spotlight outside the room pointed into the window, shadows on that too, might need to add a second, to tone down the shadows some, but keeping the light intensity
I will be using a distant light to light of the room, no shadows, this is the one that may take a moment longer to produce the right lighting for the room
I like that kind of like a moonight idea through the window. Thanks for sharing. :)
I shut off the shadows to my spotlight. I put both on my post earlier to see the difference in shadows anyways.
did some adjusting, added the distance light
by moving the outside light, you can change the lighting direction going into the room
when I moved the outside light, I did add intensity , since the light was no longer shining on the model
Sometimes it is really educational to peer into someone threads :D Thanks for the lesson in lighting Xaat I am going to use that lesson on my next render for the freebie contest I am working on
Cool, Thanks very much for the pictorial tut! I used the same lights just slightly different locations, etc. If not tonight I will go back tomorrow and see how that looks in my scene. This should be helpful for others also. :)
no problem, I kinda got excited getting to do this, it was one of the few things I can help, very limited, but helpful
I'm searching for a link, for light colors, tells more then just that, it was extremely helpful for me. (I haven't transferred my bookmarks to the new machine yet)
I was debating if I wanted to add a backlight. I like using a back light, I feel it adds more depth/detail into the scenes
forgot to reply to this part
the positioning I did was just basic and to give you an idea how to use those lights . was pretty sure you could take it from there
No problem. Many thanks anyways for your effort. :) I will still move things around and see how it looks just save it as a new file. :)
I found that link,
Reproducing Real World Light
.
So very kind of you. I will definitely bookmark that. Thanks!
Ok so here is my updated render. :) I made some light changes, basically switched a couple of them around. I made some adjustments to her shorts and changed the texture of the chair and table. The wood had to match on both or would look odd.
I seemed to have been away for a long time. I just got too busy with my farm, my pc+ ran out, and limited time to actually doodle with all this stuff. I have collected a few more items due to the amazing sales. With winter here I am more stranded inside and not able to do much outside due to cold, snow, frozen ground, short days (sunlight), and did I mention cold. I think Jackfrost has arrived since we are hitting close to the single digits with 20+ mile per hour winds. Brrr... I guess I will be posting a few of my renders here. I need to refresh my memory again. :)
This one I did tonight. I used some light presets for an outdoor enviroment and just added a spotlight.
Opps...I just noticed the floating plant. I will fix that tomorrow.
J. Frost was conspiring with J. Tomalin to get you back in the PC+.
Ahhh..those two guys. Well, I think it worked. :)
I will have to fix the indian lady when i get the background straightened out. I also did Alfred here. I think I might need to ad some enviromental lights to make it lighter, though I like this also. :)
Nice little tutorial for the lights thanks for sharing XaatXuun.
One of the most difficult things I have found using those backgrounds is how to not get the shadows from objects to show on them. I haven't figured it out yet but there are probably others who would have some tips on that. I really love those backgrounds and it always drives me insane trying to make sure the wrong shadows don't fall on them.
You've done a great job on the two figures especially the posing.
