I had the 2 poses, but did a little tweaking. Lights are my bane for sure, eventually I will get it, I hope.
I did this one early this fall, when I got the cat. I actually made this pose nothing fancy just playing. hehe
The other bane is shaders and textures (I can make them), especially how they work with different rendering engines. It will take me eons to get it figured out.
You are not alone lol. Either for the shaders or the lights. although I am working hard to master the texture part of things, its actually one of my favorite things to do, changing the materials. It helps make things unique as well, which is really nice. As far as lights go, I push buttons and play around a lot and am either really happy or ready to chuck the pc out of the window.
I can relate that. haha
Updated Alfred and native archer woman. I changed the background and moved plants around in the second pic.
Ah you fixed the shadows on the background, looks great!
Looks amazing now that the shadows are fixed Liana!!!
Yea I did. Thanks! :)
This one I had to make brown eyes and change the skin color. I forget the rest I might have done. I had to fix a couple if things before putting it up. One is a lone portrait and the other is with her little friend. I try to save poses, changes in clothing (fitting), hair fitting, lights, etc to help with future projects. It's good practice too. :)
Thanks! :) Shadows, lights...are really sometimes a pain. haha
I need to put these things in my gallery I guess. Only one thing I sort of forgot how. :P
Edit: I got some stuff in my gallery now.
I have a few other 'scenes' I am working on. One has characters in it not from here, so I may not post it.
The other one is a christmas scene. I want to emulate the light from the fire on to items close by. It's not working to my liking. I left it on the back burner and I am going to take another stab at it now. Thinking about how to get more twinkle on the tree lights could be beyond doing though. The lighting in general is kicking my butt. This what I have so far.
I did a little experimenting last night and did the same scene in 3DL and in Iray. I tried this twice it only seemed to work on the one scene where i seen a marked difference. The first is 3DL and the second is Iray no lights but the scene ones and just the characters.
I helped my partner create this one minus the sitting pose and different clothes.
Edit: The 2nd photo has all my changes. :)
I am learning a bunch more about lighting and materials. I am reworking and rendering some of my stuff. It's been fun and frustrating at times. I will post as I get them done.
I dont think its a problem to post stuff not aquired here. Looks like you are learing a lot!
It depends on said item. I have 'read' some things that say otherwise, so I am just being cautious. I finally have some time to do a bit more doodling, research, and learning. Thanks! :)
I post Poser figures and RDNA figures and even a turbosquid figure. Have not had a complaint so far. Or, do you mean something else? What is the nature of the complaint? I mean, is it that people don't think Daz wants other figures integrated, or that the other character's owners don't want it, or... I've had posts deleted for discussing a product (VWD) that is sold at another store when the discussion got a little too much like an infomercial, but I haven't had posts deleted just because I posted a render in which I mentioned I used VWD. Wouldn't a character from another store be sort of like that?
Nothing wrong with caution. I hear we are supposed to err on its side. However, in this case, I think you might post something with a disclaimer and see if it is OK. Not much harm in trying it out, and if your use is OK, it could enrich your thread (which I love, BTW).
.
We were without power in my neck of the woods from about 7pm last night until the wee early morning hours today. I sent you a message. :)
One of the things you mentioned, but maybe I am ok with renders. It is just a few figures. I am using. I like to try different ones for fun and learning. It seems they all have differences and make things interesting.I think I am learning more using different 'items' and figures. :)
Thanks again for addressing my caution. Thanks for the nice compliment, maybe one day my thread will eventually help others learn how to use Daz.:)
I will throw these renders up here. I have been working on them more. It also is helping me learn a bit more about shaders and using them in the 2 different render engines. I am noticing all kinds of things that by passed my brain before. haha There is still more work to be done on them, but this is my second attempt to improve them. The big thing is skins, whether human or animal.
I think I want to learn how to make enviroment backgrounds. I don't think it will be all that hard really. The hard part being finding or creating good enviroment backgrounds to use. I need a camera. :)
I did update and change some things on my previous renders. I learned how to make an IBL from Kettu's free stuff thread. Here are the results so far.
I did have some trouble with a white artifact in the fawn's eye. My reading on materials and shaders lead me to look at what kind of shader default it's eyes were, because I could not get rid of it. I eneded up changing to the omhuman shader for 3DL on it's eye and diddled with the dials a bit. No more huge glaring white artifact. :)
I still have some work on my lAlbert render. I really dislike his glowing face.
Edit: Opps..I had to make some minor changes.
I have been working on various things more for learning and practice. Refitting clothes to other figures, learning morphs, and I finally did a complete retexture of an item. This is the result of my effort. :)
Your efforts are paying off well. Congrats. Looking forwad to seeing more of your progress.
Thanks Diomede.
The dress refit was done by a friend who is helping me out in the sticky spots so to speak. She did the refit to genesis 3 that is the above picture. She is like way faster than me. lol I was working on refitting to V4. It's an A3 dress which I really like soooo. it still needs some tweaking though. I need to work on some morphs for some dance moves I have, but basically the dress works quit well on basic non-dramatic poses without any additional work. I want to refit it to some other figures too just because I want that option and it's good practice. :)
You did a great job on this Liana
Thanks Ice Dragon. I had not done any texturing in a while, but it was not too hard to get back into the swing of it. :)
I worked on the dress texture some more 3DL render plus I did some postwork. :)
Ok, so I managed to make a normal map for the texture and also did an Iray render I changed nothing just switched the render engine. I forgot I had 3dL portrait lights hence the extra shadows. lol
First is 3DL with normal map and the second is Iray with normal map. I like both in different ways. I can't say I would give up one for the other there are purposes for each. :)
I have to admit I did not really notice the difference because for the most part it all went pretty fast in general.
So, I conducted the experiment this morning. Rendering in IRay I found no difference in speed with a normal map or just using displacement/bump map. The difference came in 3DL with normal map only the speed was 30 seconds, with displacement/bump maps took it 1 minute and 30 seconds.
Add: Iray on my machine for the image took right at 2 minutes to render.
The normal map does more than just speed up a render (compared to a bump map). The normals map acts in a lot of way like a displacement map in that it physically changes the look of a mesh, whereas a bump map does not. And a normals map acts like a bump map in the way that it's not entirely limited to the object's poly count in order to look good.
When working in Iray, sometimes if a mesh is too low a poly distribution of the mesh (or rather not sub-divided enough) the displacement map looks ugly, or unrefined. A normals map, by contrast, will do the same thing that the displacement map does, but it looks a lot better, even if the base mesh is a low poly count.
Each of the maps has their place and purpose, and it's good that Liana is experimenting to find out what works best. Keep up the good work!
Lovely texture on that blue dress, Liana! Very nice. I love the renders put in the picture frames. :)
