I wanted to check the status of my USPS packages and order of stamps but their website seems to be down. I hope my stamps come in Monday?
Having butchered an array of instruments, there is likely no instrument that can't drive one's parents mad during the learning stage. Especially if one has no talent.
Pet-sitting. Doggo is lovely. Catto is lovely, too, except that at some point they decided to skip the litterbox. :-/ Ugh.
There's definitely a scale that I've thought about formalizing. For example, piano is maybe the easiest instrument to start playing, because it's impossible to play a single note badly. Obviously there's a lot of complexity as one progresses, but someone who knows nothing about the instrument and has no previous musical experience could learn to play a simple melody quite easily and it would sound okay. With stringed instruments like a guitar, how one frets a note alters how the note sounds, and how hard one picks/bows the string, so there's an additional level of complexity when learning how to play the guitar, for example. Violin adds a couple extra complications, because bowing requires more precision and technique on a fundamental level, so an inexperienced violinist can make even an unfretted note sound bad. On top of that, violins don't have frets, so they also have to train their intonation, so they know whether the note they're trying to play is actually the note they're playing, or slightly flat or sharp, or even a different note entirely. Similarly, learning to play a wind instrument involves developing one's embouchure, which is one level of difficulty for, say, a flute, clarinet or trumpet, but becomes more difficult for a double-reeded instrument like an oboe.
..yeah, I only have four working ones 2 desktops and 2 notebooks (one of which is my old 32 bit Toshiba with Win XP that I first started working in Daz on [which still works] and the other a W7 Pro one with 8 GB memory I used for role play game sessions). Also have a Dell Notebook which the HDD pooped out on and an old Toshiba Techra with Win 98 that was accidentally got a taste of a fine Fume Blac during a game session.
The oldest of the two desktops "Big Sister" is the one I will be upgrading for W11 a it is my main Daz system. "Little Sister" is primarily for getting on the Net and working in Daz while i have mega render jobs cooking on her older sibling. Both are still W& Pro and have Norton 360 with Lifelock. Your poppa Bear having an i7 10700 is pretty raging. I'm looking at an i7 11700K (required for supporting the M.2 slot, the 10900KF I looked at is a generation older).
So what cooler do you have on the i7? I'm looking at a Noctua NH-D15 a monster of a heat sink with dual fans. Not into messing with liquid cooling as it would mean sacrificing the two top exhaust fans on my case for the radiator.
The full upgrade for Big Sister includes an Asus PRIME H570-PLUS, the i7 11700K, 64 GB of system memory (2 x 32 GB leaving two slots open for further expansion), a 500 GB Samsung 980-M.2 for the boot drive, W11 Pro (DVD), and the monster CPU cooler (I measured the interior space my case has and it will just fit). Total cost about 994$ (already have an RTX 3060 so don't have to worry about that expense).
Consider I am upgrading from an ASUS P6T X58 MB, 6 core Xeon X5660 (with Cooler Master GeminII S CPU cooler), and 24 GB 1333 DDR3 memory (roughly 11 year old tech) it's quite a leap.
I am getting sleepy. I need to clear off my bed and get ready to sleep soon.
I made a terrible mistake at karaoke tonight and started with a song that was outside my comfortable range. Now my throat is shredded, and I struggled through my next song, which should have been easy.
I never sing in public. When I was very young, my mother told me that opening my mouth exposes my brain. She was refering to speech, but I use it to avoid singing. Yes, I'm that guy who only weakly and silently mouths the words to a song and never gyrates his body in any way that could be considered dance, in public. However, when alone I conduct the world's greatest orchestras with great flourishes and rhythmic undulations, and mouth noises that only a few could consider singing. And of course I play the music loud enough that I can hear the music with my poor hearing, but also loud enough to drown out my mouth noises from any unlucky passers-by..
Complaint : I think my house suffers from seperation anxiety went out for the first time in 3 weeks and now the plumbing isn't working ,no water and I'm on a well ........
Of course the house is separating. Animal magnetism keeps it together. This is only my theory, so grains of salt should be taken with it.
Thanks LG , on the plus side the company I use sent somebody out for me this morninng and the issue is getting fixed so that's good.
For some reason I don't like singing alone while watching church. If I am at church, I don't mind singing, but not at home. Main reason I don't go to church physically is because of a virus that is going around town.
I am thinking of turning off my light and going to bed.
Non-complaint: New computer parts for "George" are arriving tomorrow (Monday) so I started to get ready for surgery. I unplugged George from his Borg station, lay him on my workbench and opened him up. Yay, I found that the Power supply is 500 watts instead of the 400w that I thought was in there. Wheee... more power <* Tool-Time monkey grunts *> Apparently I'd replaced the power supply with a nice EVGA 500w sometime ago.
Complaint: I also discovered that the existing CPU fan in George is about ready to bite the dust, lots of noise. Also, I did some eyeball measuring and realized that I forgot the height requirements of MommaBear's motherboard with its attached large vertical cooler. 'Twon't fit in George's case. I may have to find the stock cooler that came with Momma's CPU. But that's probably OK, because for the time being, the new George is not going to be entering any races or endurance courses.
Yet one more complaint: I also have discovered (re-remembered) that the big wonderful vertical CPU cooler currently in MommaBear is for an LGA-1151 socket type and the new motherboard has an LGA-1200 socket. I'm not sure my cooler has the correct mounting hardware for the newer socket. Even if it does, I'll still have to scrounge through my boxes again to find them.
Non-complaint: But the sliver lining to this is that I also discovered that the 14 year old HP case has lots of ventilation holes in the side panel right over where the CPU/Cooler live. So the stock Intel cooler or a nice 3rd party horizontally oriented cooler would have direct access to the side vents.
I hate it when I start coughing at night. I want to drink water or something, but I have a problem with drinking water before going to bed. (I don't sleep well if I drink too much water before bedtime.)
Non-complaint: Hoarding has its benefits. Deep in my boxes I found the stock cooler for MommaBear's CPU. And I also found two other previously used coolers that could work. A CoolerMaster i50C with a simple PWM fan. And a CoolerMaster i71C-RGB with PWM & RGB(not ARGB) lighting(Wheee...lights!). Either will work on the LGA-1151 socket required by the i5-8600 CPU on that board. The i71C-RGB is bigger (more air flow) but the LED lights would be wasted after it gets installed in George's old HP case. Also in my hoard I found my 16GB (2x8) set of Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200 speed RAM for the new motherboard going into MommaBear after her current motherboard gets transplanted to George. I also found a 16GB(2x8) pair of Corsair Vengeance PRO 3200 speed RAM with LED lighting(Wheee... lights!). I'm not sure that I can get both the LPX and PRO sets of RAM working together to give me a total of 32GB running at rated 3200 speed. (It didn't work in PoppaBear's 400 series motherboard, but maybe Momma's new 500 series board will be able to handle it. Otherwise Momma will have to be satisfied with either 16GB at 3200, or 32GB at a lower speed.
I like to equip my computers each with a system drive, at least one mass data drive, and a HD backup drive. When I excise and retire a still functional motherboard, if possible, I like to keep it's CPU, RAM and system drive all together in a box just in case somebody is desperate for a functional (albeit slow) computer..
Complaint: I've got a previously purchased Samsung, 970-EVO-Plus, 500GB SSD to use for the new system drive when Momma's motherboard is stitched into George, and George's system currently has a 500GB HD for backup. Although, I thought that I had another spare 500GB or 1TB hard drive for data storage but nope, must'a used 'em somewhere. But that's OK, that just means more geek time in the future. Wheee...
Can I mix cheerios and apple Jack cereal?
Why not?
Good god, no! Boom!
I thought that was Chex and Rice Crispys .....
Non-complaint: The parts for the George and MommaBear upgrades have arrived. Yay! George has been opened and his brain and nervous system have been removed. Cables have been moved out of the way, I'm ready to begin reconstructive surgery. During the removal of George's brain & nervous system(CPU & motherboard) I discovered that the CPU cooler had broken three of the four screws holding it down and was not doing much cooling! However, that cooler has now been trashed and the Cooler Master i50C that I mentioned earlier was just the ticket to replace it. Actually, I think I purchased that i50C cooler specifically for this machine many moons ago but apparently forgot to install it. It still had the factory thermal paste undisturbed. OK, so George's old motherboard, CPU, RAM, system drive and the replacement cooler have been wrapped in anti-static bags and stuck in a box for some future desperate masochist needing a computer, even one with a high frustration factor. (And with that cooler solution I got rid of one more of my hoard of computer parts.)
Complaint: Arghhh..., show stopper for a while. This is the first time I've run into this problem. The front panel lights & switches on this old HP case use an HP standard plug shell for their connection to the motherboard. Unfortunately, I don't believe the wires in the plug are in the same arrangement as the socket pins on the motherboard being donated by MommaBear. Boogers!
Now I have to trace out those front-panel wires to find which is which and then break them out of their plug shell and find a way to get the right wires onto the right pins of the new motherboard without soldering directly to the pins. Wheee... more shopping!
I got hiccups. Why can't they be calm ones? They jolt me with each one!
Complaint: A bunch of things in my wishlist are showing as Free...but when I put one into my cart and try to check out, it says my cart is empty! This is happening on every one that I try! Yet, if I refresh the wishlist, they still are showing as free!
Dana
That's because they have been removed from the store
Some of them are quite new, like one for G8F!
And a couple others. Something for G8.1 F already gone???

The Scrooge Mega Bundle was a time limited thing and has also gone.
Although, like Dickens' book, I expect it to re-appear on the Daz store every Christmas for the next 178 years.
There have been products that haven't even lasted a full day in the store.
Emma&Jordi upped sticks and moved to Gumroad.
This is very disappointing. There are a couple of Bastion things in that list, too...Simple Gallery and an add-on for it, I think.
I can't even say that it saves me some money, because they were marked as free. I guess I should keep my expectations in check.
